BLT New incentives

Thanks guys I appreciate the input.

After reading some other posts - I am leaning towards the MK view as well. Any else buy the MK view? Seems like that will be a very special view to have from BLT.

I really need to pick a season next. Typically we go to Disney in the fall when the crowds are fairly light so looking at the Choice Season.

Just be aware that you are not buying any view. You are buying enough points to give you the ability to book that view. MK view will be difficult to get much of the time as there are so few rooms in this category. (I think it's 10-11% of total rooms). And remember that busy seasons for DVC do not correspond with busy seasons for the parks, so going in choice season will mean you might see lighter crowds in the parks, but the demand for DVC rooms is high as lots of people like these lower point value times.

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy enough points for MK view to be a possibility, just that you shouldn't assume you'll always get it.

I too wanted to make sure you were clear that you are not buying a particular view or a particular week, season, etc. Unlike traditional timeshares the DVC system is point-based and you can book any size unit with any view for any season as your points allow.

Since you can bank the previous year's points and borrow from the next year's points you don't necessarily need to purchase enought points to book a MK view every year.

You can stretch your points from year to year by staying in a lower-point cost view, going during a slower season, etc. If you decide not to go one year you can bank those points into the next year and have a longer stay or nicer view. Also, if you want to take a longer vacation one year or upgrade the view you can borrow points from the next year. You aren't tied down to the same view and villa size each year. This flexibility is one of the best features of DVC.

With regard to the member referral - Do you have to have it before you ever talk to someone at DVC? DH called a few months back and they sent him info. I have a friend who is a DVC member and would like to use her as a referral (both for her and for us). Will they balk at adding her and giving her & us the discounts/benefits?

Thanks!

As long as you have the referral in before the papers are drawn up and signed, I don't see where they would have an issue with giving you the referral benefits.

Be sure that you continue to research DVC and understand how it differs from other timeshares.

It is a points based system, not one in which you purchase a certain room, for a certain time frame for the year. Once you buy your points at your "home resort" (in your case, BLT if that is what you are considering), you have the right to book a vacation 11 months in advance. At 7 months out, all DVC owners can book at any DVC resort.

DVC is really works well for people who can plan their vacations in advance. However, some things, even for those that own at a home resort are going to be tough to get on a regular basis, unless you call exactly at your 11 month mark.

For example, I own 130 points at BLT (soon to be 180!!!) and can use them to book a room there 11 months before I want to travel. I can use them for any size room, as long as I have enough points. I can break up those points and go for short 3 day trips, or longer trips if I want. I can even bank the points one year so I can have double the next. And, if I want to try and stay at a different DVC resort, I can call 7 months before I want to travel and book a room elsewhere (providing there is availability).

There is a lot of flexibility in how to use your points. However, just be aware that even if you buy enough points to always stay in an MK view room, you are not guaranteed that type of room.

Good luck!!!

You will certainly get the referral incentives, but your friend may not receive the gift card if you add her as a referral after you have initially had a conversation with a Guide. However, if your DH just called for information (or the DVD) and wasn't intent on purchasing at that time, your friend will probably receive the gift card provided that you mention your friend to your Guide at the point you are ready to purchase. Good luck!!
