I bought day two. Signed and returned everything on Oct. 1, the day after I received all my paperwork. I think we officially closed Oct 20 something but I don't know because we haven't received our official closing paperwork yet.
I just got off the phone with my guide and I got my matching DPs. I initiated a conversation with him yesterday after reading about others here getting DPs after the fact.
Just for the record, I didn't call whining or complaining. I'm a businessman. I run my own company and I respect that a deal is a deal. When I bought in, there were no matching DPs. Fine. I knew that and accepted it as part of the
penalty I was willing to accept to get in the Founders' Club.
What my guide said back to me today was basically how I substantiated my request to him yesterday. Very simply, retro for one, retro for anybody that goes to the trouble to ask.
I didn't ask for any special treatment but I just wanted to be treated equally, and if someone that signed the same day I did under the same premises I signed under got the deal, I felt I should be able to get it too. My guide agreed. So did management, apparently.
I'm a happy camper.
They went beyond the call of duty on this one as far as I'm concerned.
Having said that, I would be remiss not to add this. I think we would all be extremely guilty of looking at this all through rose colored glasses if we didn't acknowledge that the likely reason they are doing this is their own
selfishness (for good reasons). The economy is down. Disney needs people in the parks.
DVC'ers spend money when they go. Do the math.
All in all, I want to stress yet again that I still think DVD went beyond the call of duty on this one.
Their stock went up several points with me on this one and my loyalty for DVC went up a magnitude. That's worth way more than the DP's could have possibly cost DVD. Good move. PR like this is priceless.
Call and ask. It can't hurt and you might be pleasantly surprised with what you get.
