I was one of those who signed my paperwork in early October (5th) and keep hearing about people who called their guides and got the matching developer points. I would like to start a thread for people who received the points even though they signed before the promotion. Please leave the date that you signed and/or closed if you have it. I think this may help the rest of us know our options.

It seems as though some people have called and gotten those points after their closing dates while others are being told it is not possible

I bought day two. Signed and returned everything on Oct. 1, the day after I received all my paperwork. I think we officially closed Oct 20 something but I don't know because we haven't received our official closing paperwork yet.

I just got off the phone with my guide and I got my matching DPs. I initiated a conversation with him yesterday after reading about others here getting DPs after the fact.

Just for the record, I didn't call whining or complaining. I'm a businessman. I run my own company and I respect that a deal is a deal. When I bought in, there were no matching DPs. Fine. I knew that and accepted it as part of the penalty I was willing to accept to get in the Founders' Club.

What my guide said back to me today was basically how I substantiated my request to him yesterday. Very simply, retro for one, retro for anybody that goes to the trouble to ask.

I didn't ask for any special treatment but I just wanted to be treated equally, and if someone that signed the same day I did under the same premises I signed under got the deal, I felt I should be able to get it too. My guide agreed. So did management, apparently.

I'm a happy camper. They went beyond the call of duty on this one as far as I'm concerned.

Having said that, I would be remiss not to add this. I think we would all be extremely guilty of looking at this all through rose colored glasses if we didn't acknowledge that the likely reason they are doing this is their own selfishness (for good reasons). The economy is down. Disney needs people in the parks. DVC'ers spend money when they go. Do the math. ;)

All in all, I want to stress yet again that I still think DVD went beyond the call of duty on this one. Their stock went up several points with me on this one and my loyalty for DVC went up a magnitude. That's worth way more than the DP's could have possibly cost DVD. Good move. PR like this is priceless.

Call and ask. It can't hurt and you might be pleasantly surprised with what you get. ;)

That's great. Yea I think they need visitors especially if there are empty SSR (or any) rooms they could fill-why not?

How long did it take for you to be able to view your developer points on line? I bought 2nd week in October and I called my guide to ask about getting the DPs today. He told me he would e-mail his manager and get back to me soon =/

None of my DP's have EVER shown up online so I'm not expecting these to. Disney's online everything stinks. You'd think... I digress.. :confused3

Some people have reported seeing theirs online. I just can't.

If you call, they're there. It's virtually immediate. Once you sign, it's done (assuming you got them in your original deal). I called today and mine are available from yesterday.

I would think they should be there right away. We bought DVC yesterday, and immediately used some of the DP's to move to SSR :). CSR was AWESOME also, as they were kind enough to refund us not only Thurs and Friday night, but also Wednesday even though this was like 6pm last night.

No, I signed my contract Oct 14th or something like that. I guess i'll call member services tomorrow to see.

I got my Dp and used them right away to upgrade our next trip to a 1 bedroom at the BWV.(I used the 3 nights free deal- it worked out better for us) The CM stated that my Ressie wouldn't show up yet until the incentive was verify. So only 4 of my 7 nights are showing up.

But the contract is listed already!

I called my guide today and was told that I would have my matching DP's in the next couple of days. Thanks Wilsonflyer for the info. For the record I signed on Oct. 5th.

Glad to hear it! :cool1:

I've also talked (PM and/or phone) to a few friends privately that have gotten them after-the-fact too after doing what I did. I hope we are all doing it. I'm sure some had rather not say so in one of these threads and I certainly understand the privacy element.

I just wanted to get the word out that it could be done given persistence, diligence and professionalism. :)

There's an old saying that applies here: "Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it." ;)

I appreciate it Bob. We closed on the 23rd and I contacted my guide 2 weeks ago. He said he would check into it. Said he hasn't heard anything yet - his boss was in NY last week and when I called him yesterday he said he would let me know as soon as he hears something. Do you think I should wait for him or contact his Manager?

I called my guide today to see if it was possible. She told me that everyone who is saying that they called and got them is lying.... wasn't happy to hear her say that. Why would complete strangers lie on a message board about something like that ? Unfortunately such as my life goes I didn't get the points but it was worth a shot

My response to your guide's comments was not appropriate for this thread but I did PM additional information to you to assist you in your quest assuming you're not throwing in the towel that easily (that's what they want you to do). They want you to go (in a nasily voice), "OoK". Don't you do it.

I could parade several people here on DIS that I know have done what I did but some of them have chosen not to post as is their perrogative and it's not my place to supercede a decision that belongs to them, not me.

I'm not lying.

It really ticks me off that your guide had the audacity to say I was. I want to know who your guide is (by NAME). I'm going to be at SSR in 7 days and at the sales center to see the BLT models on the 1st. If you will tell me who your guide is, I assure you I will address it with their superior as soon as I get there.

I'm guilty of being a lot of things but a liar ain't one of'em.

My guide actually called me back today! :) I wasn't expecting it because it was just yesterday that I asked him about the matching DPs. He left a message on my voice mail saying he was able to get me my matching DPs and wished me a happy weekend. For the record, I mailed my closing documents Oct 14th. So to all of you who signed before the new promo: call and ask your guide!

Thanks everyone for the help and info :cheer2:

Another liar!!!! (j/k) :rotfl2:

When I initially approached DVC about the [VPO] Developer Points, I was told that they were giving them only to people who hadn’t closed. I was fine with this policy. I could accept the policy as long as it was applied in a consistent and fair fashion.

Later, however, I learned of other DVC members who purchased during the first few days that BLT went on sale to members, and they were getting the developer points after the fact, even though their contracts had already closed. Yet, other members were still being told by their guides that they couldn't get them.

To me, this became an issue since it didn't appear that DVC was treating it’s members in a consistent and fair way. Why are some members getting the VPO while others weren't able to? It doesn’t seem right or fair. Maybe some guides just weren't willing to go to their management and go to bat for their members?

Bob (WilsonFlyer) is not lying. Your guide can get you the matching developer points if he escalates the matter to management, and it is presented as a case of members being treated in a fair and consistent fashion.

Some members who have gotten the points have been asked by their guides not to advertise that fact.

Thanks Mike.

I wondered about being asked not to advertise the fact. I sorta expected it once I got mine but my guide never mentioned it so I certainly didn't mention it to him. ;)

Had they asked me not to "advertise", I would have been much more private with my joy and would have honored that request but since they didn't request it, here we are.

Thanks for sharing. You were (as you know), one of my private examples that I knew got them after the fact.

Wilsonflyer proved to me last night what a nice upstanding guy he is. Now if my guide was just that upstanding. I may call her back today and ask her to go to her manager. But you can bet when I do the add on I was comtemplating at the end of December I won't be using her again.
