BLT Lounge Questions

OK, I called my sales rep again and he told me he gave me some bad information.

ALL DVC owners staying at the BLT can use the Top of the World Lounge. In addition, a guest that isn't an owner but is staying using owner points can also use the lounge.

I guess that means if you aren't a DVC owner and paying cash - you are out of luck.

Here is a C&P from dvcmember.com under BLT, Recreation and Entertainment.

Top of the World Lounge
Top of the World Lounge is a 77-seat full-service bar offering beverages and light appetizers, and is located on the 16th floor of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Next to the lounge is an observation deck offering unparalleled views of Magic Kingdom® Park. The regular operating hours for the lounge and deck are from 5:00 p.m.-midnight daily (operating hours, access guidelines, and menu are subject to change without notice).

Due to anticipated high demand for this location, access is available only to Disney Vacation Club Members who are staying at Bay Lake Tower using their Membership (Vacation Points or cash), guests staying in the room with that Member, and guests who are staying in a room reserved by a DVC Member with Vacation Points. Access is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

I just talked to my guide and this is exactly what he was told. All DVC members staying at BLT. He said at this point, they have not been told exactly how they are going to do it (ie: KTTW card, wristband, and/or membership card), but if you are a guest there, you will have access.

Now, I didn't ask him to clarify "or cash" comment, but he mentioned that as well. So, I am not sure if that means a DVC discounted room or a room booked via DRC (won't ever be going on cash so wasn't concerned).

It certainly sounds to me that the purpose of the lounge is to be a perk for members, any DVC members, who are at BLT. I did ask if this also applied to the observation deck and he said that he was only told about the lounge and wasn't sure if the same applies for the observation deck.

That should answer any questions. Looks like renters could get in too.

The only question I see is "Disney Vacation Club Members who are staying at Bay Lake Tower using their Membership (Vacation Points or cash)". Someone had posted that they are staying on a 4/3 deal with CRO, could they get in. It says "using their membership", so does that mean only member cash reservations?

It sounds like the DVC member who is staying 4/3 may be able to get up there. But, any guests that are not DVC members who are staying in a different cash room, would probably not be eligible to use it.

I'm sure the KTTW cards are already coded differently if staying with a DVC membership as they always come out printed with "DVC MEMBER" on the front for everyone on your reservation. Requiring the actual DVC member cards wouldn't make sense if they were allowing guests staying on members' points to go in.

If you are renting from someone with their points do the KTTW always say DVC Member?

So the consensus is anyone staying on points can get up to the top floor?

According to the Public Offering Statement that accompanies each DCV unit for sale, there is a difference between guests and renters. A guest pays no compensation to a member. A person renting a reservation from a member pays the member compensation. The person paying a member for a reservation is not entitled to any DVC perks or benefits. Guests of a DVC member may be entitled to some DVC perks.

Just thought I'd post this for anyone interested...

My (non-DVC) friend is staying at BLT this Christmas with her family on cash. They were specifically told that they will not have access to the lounge.

I just hope they have some decent beer up there.

My (non-DVC) friend is staying at BLT this Christmas with her family on cash. They were specifically told that they will not have access to the lounge.

And others booking for cash with the DRC have told they would be allowed.

I see this as another Disney mess, of making a policy and not following through.

If this stays a DVC perk, which I truly hope it does, I will really be surprised.

I think it will create so much headache to manage that it will be just like the Attic and if it does, I seriously think it was set up to fail.

When you have people paying hundreds even thousands of dollars to stay there, they are going to really upset over being denied access.

I called Deb from AllEars and she corrected her website.
As it stands right now, I would not have access to the lounge since I am paying CASH for my BLT studio during labor day weekend and am not a DVC owner.

I think it depends on how crowded it gets. I heard there's room for 400 on the observation deck. Maybe do the non-DVC guests as "standby"? Not everyone staying at BLT will do it the same night.

Another factor - they want to sell drinks and food in the bar. By restricting it to DVC members only, they are cutting down the number of customers they may have. They may have alot of business around the fireworks time, but what about the rest of the time? They are open 5pm to midnight daily.

Good point.
But a lot of people they may let up at early at "off fireworks" time might become what the trade calls "campers". You know-- get there at 5 and nurse an iced tea until 9:00. Happens all the time at California Grill.
Once in, hard to get them out.
