Why doesn't Bay Lake have its own gym?

Why doesn't is have its own check-in?

It seems to me there is room for both.

Easier to share costs with the Contemporary rather than set up two separate check-in areas and gyms. Better (lower costs) for members and better for Disney.

Kidani has a separate check-in than Jambo but those are really much farther apart than BLT & the Contemporary. All hotel style resorts for DVC share the check-in with the rest of the resort except AKV.

Based on what I've seen usage-wise, there would be no real reason for an additional gym. Just consider the short walk to the Contemporary gym to be a little extra exercise!

How how would having a a small gym actually cost?

I have been to the contemporary gym. Its old, dark and not update or at least not all the equipment.

Is there not space to add a small gym?

As Granny said, any DVC resort that is part of a resort hotel, does not have it's own gym and check-in (Kidani is the exception).

Check in at the Contemporary is a very short walk to Bay Lake Tower. The gym in on the 3rd floor of the Contemporary. Don't try to get there taking the escalator. You have to take the stairs or the elevator.

I was just wondering why not have a few tread mills or bikes at the tower?

For $140 per point, it doesn't seem like too much to ask. Its not a need question, I am just curious as why not.

Do I want to pay more in dues for it? No way. I would much prefer the jogging trail that they are supposably planning.

We stayed there in January for 7 nights, and I had problem walking over to the contemporary tower for the gym to use the treadmills (very nice BTW). It was harder trying to figure out how to get to the 3rd floor then anything else..

No check in at BLT was great. The lobby was always nice and quiet when we went through. A bunch of folks checking in all the time would have been noisy and annoying. Same would go for VWL and BCV (which was tried) IMO. A small gym might be OK though, but not necessary since there is one so close. The furthest BLT rooms are not nearly as far to the workout room as many DVC resorts-VWL are the closest, BCV are about twice as far as BLT, BWV can be very close and some pretty far, OKW and SSR can be the furthest-but you can take a bus to work out. Not sure at AKV.

I don't mind that there isn't a gym in BLT, as the one in the Contemporary is so close.

I don't think that the cost of purchasing the equipment would be the problem. I think that the cost of insuring a new gym area would definitely add to our dues and I wouldn't want that.

don't really like the one at CR - but as DVC member staying on points you can go to VWL - which has a nice one and you can actually see outside!!!

My advice to the OP is that if you think Bay Lake Tower not having their own GYM and check-in desk will be a factor then maybe you shouldn't stay there, because they also don't have any stores, transportation options, bell service and valet service. Those things are also only located at the Contemporary for guests staying at Bay Lake Tower.

Easiest justification is space. Adding even a modest gym could only be done by eliminating one or two villa rooms.

Bay Lake Tower is part of Disney's Contemporary Resort. Restaurants, gift shops, gym, front desk, transportation...they are all 1-2 minutes further away than if they had been housed within BLT itself.

Your post made me think, then why exactly are there two staff members in the lobby?? They don't provide any of the above services (not a complaint) so other than helping us up to the lounge, what exactly is their purpose?

Since I have never stayed at Bay Lake Tower I am not sure why else they are there, because like you said all I know is they have them to make sure only DVC members staying at Bay Lake Tower on points get into the Top Of The World lounge.

When we were there last summer we drove over to BLT to see the resort. One of the CMs at the desk showed us around a bit while the other stayed at the desk. They both were ready to sell us points. So they are both in sales or preliminary sales to get you to an appointment with a guide.
