Just read that the skybridge is currently closed and will possibly remain closed for up to two weeks!

I would greatly appreciate updating on this as our trip to BLT is within that time frame.

Thanks :goodvibes

There is another thread on this. I emailed Member Services about it and here is their response (from today):

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We appreciate your interest in a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resort. Per the
Front Desk, the Walkway Bridge between Bay Lake Tower at Disney's
Contemporary Resort and the Main Building at Disney's Contemporary
Resort is currently closed for repairs. They do not know when the
bridge will be reopening. To get to the Main Building, you will have to
walk from Bay Lake Tower to the Main Building and you can take the
elevators or the escalator to the 4th Floor where there Merchandise
Shops and Monorail Station is located.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

We are arriving on Monday, and will be disappointed if it is not opened back up. However, I have heard that they are resurfacing the floor because it is not safe when it gets wet. I guess we will have to make the best of it. After all, we are still just a short walk to MK!! How bad could things really be??

Thanks for the information.:)

Is is possible to update this thread on Monday when you arrive?

I would love an update too. We arrive in Universal next Friday and then head over to BLT on Sunday.

I hope the work on the bridge is finished early. We arrive on 8/21 for a 9 night stay.

Honestly, I wouldn't stress over this too much. It's really not a big deal to have to walk the ground floor & then go up to the 4th at CR. A little less convenient yes but by no means a huge ordeal, IMO.

this friggin thing was just finished building what, 10 months ago..and allready problems.....man

America= build it quickly to get revenues, who cares about quality all we care about is shareholders

China= Take your time building to get it right the first time.

Netherlands= Take forever because we have to get this right and of utmost quality.

Seems alot of things are built like crap in this country. For a huge example
see the BIG DIG up in my home town...it was built so crappy that pedestrians died beucase it was soo poorly designed and built....

its all about revenues and greed....Our country sucks at building things.

Must have struck a nerve huh? I have read that they are doing some general repairs and are fixing the door so that it isn't so easily "broken" into by non-DVCer's and/or BLT guests.

FYI - they are working on making the surface less slippery when it is wet. Not exactly broken.

OH and BTW, the junk dumped over here by China NEVER falls apart or malfunctions shortly after buying it, now does it? :sad2:

Repairs already ?

not really - this was to surpose to be the moving sidewalk area - but that did not work.

so they picked the wrong thing to put down on a open skywalk. People slide on this thing now - they are trying to change it.

It is not broken - although some guests have come close to breaking walking on it.

I hope so too. With no protection from the rain, the surface get like ice when it's wet.

:earsboy: Bill

I am really glad they are fixing this - it was awful when wet. My DH took a bad fall on it during our stay - they did put up warning signs after that  I wish they would enclose it so you could get across safe and dry when it rained!

I hope your DH is okay. I cannot envision them enclosing the skywalk as they would have to air condition it otherwise it would be an oven in there. Perhaps an awning of some sort, but that wouldn't look very modern and I'm not sure that with the wind it would help anyway. I swear the rain was coming at us horizontally when we were there in March.

We were there the second week of March, the rain was bad, and the walkway was very slippery. I think it was the tile at the doorway that caused the biggest problem.

From what I hear . . .
. . . they did not anticpate so many people standing on the bridge for fireworks
. . . the weight overloads the bridge capacity
. . . they must now reinforce the structure
. . . just like the structural stress on the Yeti
. . . not enough true engineering

I have to admit I was wondering about a weight limit on the bridge. Maybe they should prohibit viewing from there. After all it is a walk way. There is a viewing area on the same level at CR at the end of the of walkway.

Outside of having to have 2 dedicated cast members to prevent this, I'm with you. We haven't stayed here yet (even though it is our newest home :cool1:), but would imagine it could be problematic for guest flow (those coming and going), crowd control, etc. Pretty soon at 20 minutes before you'll see the temporary poles and ropes pop up like in the parks before parades.

I'd be ok with it being a "no viewing" zone, or crowd managed somehow.
