Terrific....thank you so much! I clearly waited until the last minute to think about it. Secretly my hope was the new room would be ready and we could do a quick transition from one resort to the other.

We never do split stays. Too much junk to pack and unpack again with small kids in tow. But Im curious does Disney transfer you luggage for free when you switch resorts?

Bell services at the Poly will transfer your luggage to BLT. We often do split stays, and if we do not have a rental car, we just let bell services take care of transferring our luggage and we just go to straight to the parks until our room is ready.

Yes, Disney will transfer your stuff for free. Drop it at the Bell Services at your current resort and ask them to send it to your next resort. Or even just pack it and ask them to come pick it up at your room and send it. Don't forget to tip them, on both ends. That is the little bit of extra expense. But to me, the main problem isn't the packing and moving, it is the fact that you are 'homeless' for the afternoon, until your new room is ready.

'Moving' during your vacation is a hassle. It takes a bit more work. But, let's face it, it ain't so bad. If you took a 2 week tour of Europe, you would expect to be in different cities every few days, staying in different hotels or in different bed and breakfast places. You would be hauling all your stuff with you. We just did a 10 day trip to Europe where we moved from Barcelona to Rome to Paris and back to Barcelona. And then 'moved' to Los Angeles for another night before going home. It is called TRAVELING. We did this once on a trip to Ireland, where we stayed at 7 different places in 8 days. It really wasn't bad, because that is what we expected. We went to a different bed and breakfast every day, because we drove around the country and stayed in a different city every day. A much better way to see Ireland than choosing a base in a city like Dublin or Shannon and then trying 'day trips' around.

But, it seems strange to do this at Disney World, because we aren't usually thinking of 'exploring' places. We are thinking of going to the parks. Well, if you want to Explore Disney World, you probably have to do a little moving around. I often make 3 or more trips to Disney World per year. But even with that, I haven't stayed at more than half the places (well, if you look at my list at the bottom you will see we actually have stayed most places, but there is STILL a lot of new stuff for us to see). For our next, upcoming trip I have reservations at Caribbean Beach (want to try the gondolas), BLT and Animal Kingdom. We will be there for 9 days. I also had Poly in there, but we did Poly last trip, so I dropped it. There will be 4 young children and 8 teenagers and adults. Moving will not be fun, but it isn't horrible, and it gives the chance to be close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, with the gondola from Caribbean Beach, then close to the Magic Kingdom from BLT, and, finally spending the last few days chilling out at my favorite resort, Animal Kingdom.

Don't be afraid to try moving around. It can be fun. The biggest obstacle is mental.

Split stays are literally one of my favorite things about wdw. It allows you to stay closest to the parks you are going to those days which makes it much easier to come back in the middle of the day for breaks. Our Favorite is start at BLT end at BWV!

Thanks again for all the responses. The move went smoothly though our room wasn’t ready until 2pm. Not too bad. We aren’t generally fans of split stays. The poly was our first time booking a studio. Since we weren’t sure if we would like it, we did a 4/6 night split with BLT in our usual 1br. Good news is we loved the Poly and felt the studio would be fine for the two of us so less points on the room = more nights in Disney.

Split stays can be great! We too will do a MK Resort and split with a EPCOT Resort. Never touch a bus unless we head to AK or DS.
