BLT and ToTW Lounge question...

I have a friend going down, who asked me about this, and I have no idea as to what the answer is. He figured that since I own at BLT, I would know. But I don't stay there until Aug 6...so, no idea. BUT...I figured someone here would know.
So..here's the scenario. My friend is going down to WDW next week, staying at BLT. They own DVC but not at BLT. They are staying on points. It's going to be him, his dw, ds (17), dd (12) and ds (9)..they are staying in a one bedroom. So...he finds out some friends are going to be there at the same time, but not staying at BLT. Yeah, you all know where this is going!! He wants to take them up to ToTW for a few drinks..but obviously, the friends won't have room keys to show. So..he asked me if he could give his kids' room keys to the friends to show. But, he wanted to know if any other kind of ID is looked at. I figured probably not, but just wasn't sure.

I know, I know...it's all about the 'ethics' and 'morality' of bringing people there who have no 'right' to be there. I get it. I just wanted to give him a definitive answer as to what to expect. I figure that at least two of them are entitled to be there, and they are bringing two adult friends (who will spend money on drinks) vs two kids who would drink sodas. Not that that makes it 'ethical' but it's a valid point. At least, that's his argument and I have a hard time arguing the point.

Any thoughts???

It is my understanding that if your brother is staying at BLT on points he can go up - regardless of his home resort. That said. I don't see anything wrong with he and his wife taking up friends in place of their kids. Same number of people, right? I think it would be a different story if he weren't joining them...

I would think, I don't know for sure, that it would also depend on the time of day and how crowded it is at the time. Going up to watch the fireworks may be a little more difficult than going up in the middle of the day for a drink. :confused3

If the kids have their park tickets on their KTTW, they will need them to get into the parks and they won't be available to give to the friends.

But, if he has five KTTW that show current occupation of BLT and DVC Member, he should be able to bring them up. But the kids wouldn't be able to go up then.

To help with the "ethical" part of the question, I've seen a ton of reports from TOTWL, and not a single one has ever used the word "crowded." Many do use some variation on "hurting for business."

don't think he will have a problem - seem the CM take 5 people up with just one ID.

so really think he will be fine.

of course others have say everyone must have an ID - but in my 4 trips - this has not been the case.

I read in someone's trip report that they showed 1 card and took 2 guests up to there.

I guess it depends on who's working the checkin station on the first floor. We were their a couple of week's ago at BLT in a one bedroom for the first time and loved it. Anyway, two of nights they asked to see all the room cards from our group and the other three nights they asked only to see my room card for the whole group. It was never crowded the 5 nights we went to the top. Oh! there were different CM working the checkin station.

Thanks guys....that's kind of what I figured it would be. I know that when we go in August, we'll be going up to check it out and relax a bit. I figured that it wasn't going to be busy, so if this guy wants to take two drinking buddies up with he and his wife, no one would have an issue with it.
I guess it's up to him to deal with his kids.

When we were there two weeks ago they only asked for one room key for the group even though we had 4 adults and 3 kids. We actually all were staying together anyway. We went two times about an hour to 30 min. or so before fireworks time and it was not busy.

Last week we were waiting our turn to go up and the party before us tried to sneak some friends up.

The CM caught on really quick, called security, confiscated the members membership card, had them escorted off property. Disney is taking legal action to foreclose on their contracts based upon a violation clause.

Oh wait a minute, I just checked with DW and we weren't at WDW last week. Funny how your mind plays tricks on you when you get older. The story seemed real. :rotfl2:

I'm glad you asked this goofy4tink, because I was afraid to... :o

We are staying at BLT... NEXT WEEK!! For our 1st trip home using our DVC membership. We own at BLT. It is myself, hubby and our 2 young kids. We have friends who live in Jacksonville who are coming down to have dinner with us one night at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. They have seasonal AP's, so they are blacked out for all of July and can't go to the parks with us. So of course we'd love to bring them up to the TOWL lounge with us after dinner to see the fireworks. It would be 3 additional people. My plan is to ask that morning if it is ok, because I don't want them to drive 2+ hours from J-ville only for us to be told no, we can't bring them up. I'm really hoping it is ok, but will understand if we are told no.

really don't think you will have a problem

blt is still being sold - so DVC like visitors - on the hope they will buy....;)

You won't be able to ask until someone arrives at the desk at 5pm. They don't have the same people in the lobby earlier- only salespeople so the answer won't be acurate. But even if they can't go to the lounge with you they can watch the fireworks from the deck on the 4th floor with you (over at the Contemporary).

We were there a couple of weeks ago,3 of us in a studio.Ran into 5 friends at MK and we all went back to BLT to watch Wishes.Just showed 1 card and they let all 8 of us up to TOWL. It was very slow up there the entire week. I really think they should make it open to any DVC member as a perk:goodvibes

This makes me ask. We are taking our kids and grandkids this Oct. and staying in BLT grand villa lake view. There are ten of us. I just assumed all in our party would be able to go to the TOTW lounge. That is correct is it not? As I mentioned we are all staying in the grand villa at BLT on our points....smjj

That's no issue at all...everyone in your group will have a BLT room key. My friend's issue was that his two buddies wouldn't be actually 'staying' with him, so wouldn't have a room key in their own names...so my friend wanted his buddies to use his two kids' room keys since the kids weren't going up that night.

If adding your 2 friends to your BLT reservation doesn't cause guest total to go over maximum occupancy number for size villa you've booked then add your friends as guests on your reservation for that particular night so they can each get a KTTW card. Just keep in mind that if you are getting the dining plan for your family then dining plan would also have to be purchased for your friends too for the entire length of your trip, not just the night they'd be listed on the reservation.
