The BLT points per night increased in 2013 compared to 2012 with no corresponding decrease in other seasons, room type or view category. They either stayed the same or increased. I thought if they increased in one category they had to have a decrease in another. What is the latest wording in the current contracts as this could result in an overall cost increase to members each year if this is allowed?

You must be incorrect - they can't do that. The total # of points at the resort cannot change in that way.

I doubled checked the points and called member services and the rep looked at each category with me and and confirmed and referred me to member administration. I couldn't reach anyone at member administration. I'll have to send a email but I thought someone may know if the wording in the contracts have changed.

They have changed 10 magic kingdom views to standard view rooms. This is where the decrease is.

yep - you'd have to do a weighted average calculation to prove it, but the total number of pts for the resort for the entire year has still not changed.

but when you change the classification of high cost rooms to low cost rooms, those extra pts have to be added back somewhere...

Yep, just felt that increase myself. I just got finished booking my May 2013 standard room at BLT and I was short 1 point to book an 8 night stay because of the point change, so could only book 7 nights. Since this is my smallest contract (only 100 pts) I had planned to bank/current/borrow. Now I can only waitlist at the 7 month window for the 1 night I still wanted. At least I crunched the numbers this weekend and saw that. We'll make it work somehow. We don't mind moving after our first night. I thought I could buy the 1 point, but read that you can only do that at the 7 month window, not the 11 month window. I guess I'll take my chances in October when my 7 month window opens.

Wait, did the number of points per night go up for Standard View? I thought they accounted for the change of MK View villas to Standard View by increasing the points costs of Lake View and MK View? Did they increase Standard View too?

That's too bad, sorry. If you would like, I can transfer a BLT point to you. I don't want anything in return, so I don't think this post is considered a solicitation or anything like that. The only question is that I have a JUN UY and am out of points until 2013. So I'm not sure if I can transfer a 2013 point to you and then have you borrow it into your 2012 use year. Hopefully someone who knows more about transferring can offer advice on this. :)

Thank you for a lovely and thoughtful offer! We talked about it over the weekend and if we don't get the room/waitlist when we try in October we are actually thinking of going to VB for 2 nights (never been) and then checking into BLT afterwards. It's all good, but at least I knew before trying to book this morning....that would've been frustrating.

Yes, I was crunching my numbers on a 2012 chart (I couldn't find a 2013 book....did we get one?), so decided to double check the points to make sure nothing had changed. 2012 was 245pts (standard 1 bedroom May 11-18) and 2013 it's now 250pts. Doesn't seem like alot but did effect my plans.

Every time Disney adjusts the charts or changes the room categories it affects someone. Our yearly trip costs 30 points more due to the change that they made a year ago. They increased the points required at THV so that upset some people and the BLT room category change also affects the required points.

All we can do is go with the flow. :goodvibes

I have a separate question Bill, as you are online now. When will the 2014 DVC point chart come out? Hope you don't mind me tagging this question on to your reply. Thanks, I'm a newbie.

We were just mailed the 2013 chart a couple of months ago. Sometimes they are later, sometimes earlier.

... When will the 2014 DVC point chart come out? ...

For many years, the new point charts were released around October each fall. When point charts were reallocated over the past few years, they began to delay releasing the charts until late January - just in time for 11 month Home Resort reservations to be made for the following year.

Mailings will typically lag several months later, but the initial charts will usually be available on the Member website well before they are mailed to members.

Couldn't you have gotten a one time use point from MS for $15?

No - those are only available for reservations made during the 7 month window. N2mm was using the 11 month window (booking in June 2012 for a May 2013 vacation).

Didn't know this, too bad. Every time the shuffle the chart it costs us money. I started with 220 points and though the last couple shuffles i have had to add another 100 points. I am glad you guys are paying attention. It is appreciated.

If the point transfer won't work, remember that you can buy one-time use points from DVC, up to 24 for $15 apiece.

Again, one time use points cannot be used before the 7 month window opens.
