The Country Bears will be closed when we go, and I must say I am so disappointed!! I love the Country Bears- never miss it when we go to Disney. I really hope the show isn't changed after the refurbishment!

it has been in the show for years and years. they are closing it to remodel it shortly but is to reopn late October

Your reasoning is flawed. MK is a park geared to young children. The song is no more appropriate there than it would be on Sesame Street. My DH took DS to see Country Bears while the girls and I rode BTMR. Neither he nor DS enjoyed the show. It is time for a change.

BULL! It was appropriate 50 years ago...it still is. Sorry, if some parents don't think so, but you and your DH and DS do not have any say in what I chose to see. If you don't want to go...don't go...simple. The change should come from you...just skip on by!

Pooh, awful as it is, has strong sentimental value.

You keep alluding to this "sentimental value" and historical standing of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. You do realize that this ride is only 13 years old, right? Practically a toddler in the MK lineup. And it was put in to the great upset of everyone who adored Mr Toad's Wild Ride, which it replaced in 1999. So I don't think that the age or historical standing of a ride is relevant in the case you keep presenting.

It's not an awful ride, except perhaps to your personal taste. But it's also not "grandfathered in" to the MK's attractions by virtue of age or sentimental attachment by Disney's guests. Apparently it's just something that WDW guests (including me and mine, but of course with the well-documented exception of your family) truly enjoy and keep coming back for.

Not this quote specifically, but the entire discussion is just another example of how we, as a culture, are starting to lose our sense of humor. We take ourselves entirely too seriously and we are depriving our children of the ability to see the humor in things.

The comment about the bear taking her depression out on wine is also a huge exaggeration of the show. To an adult, it may be wine...if it is, by the way, it isn't a very high quality, to a kid it's kool-ade. It's not specified, as I recall.

I can't believe it, but I actually agree with you on this one. :lmao:

I can't even believe people are complaining about the CBJ! It is a classic attraction and if your little kid can't handle a song about blood (btw--you can't even understand him all that well when he's singing, so I am positive most of the kids have no idea what he's even saying) or a bear with a wine glass in her hand--well, then they are going to have much bigger problems in life! Give me a break.

 Your bonnet must be full of bees since you ignored my statements. Again, it is all about money. Pooh, awful as it is, has strong sentimental value. Plus, there are always newbies who have no clue how bad it is. Country Bears on the other hand is not a big draw.

Basic marketing folks. Companies spend a great deal of time and money analyzing what sells and what doesn't. Disney won't get rid of One mans Dream because of the negative connotation associated with removing legacy of Walt. Country Bears isn't widely known outside of diehard Disney folks. Disney is free to change it with minimal backlash.

MK marketing is overwhelmingly geared towards young children so I can't believe that is even a point of contention.

I got a great piece of advice a couple of months ago:

You can't fight crazy.

Main Street is geared towards young children? Yeah--I'm sure so many of them even know what that time period was about. Haunted Mansion? Fantasyland is maybe geared towards young children, but that's about it. Your logic is flawed.

Pardon me, but: HOGWASH. Space Mtn is geared towards young children? Haunted Mansion? BTMMR? POTC? HOP? I don't think so. MK, just like all of the other parks is geared to attract guests of all ages.

YOU don't like Pooh. YOU don't like CBJ. Well, fine- don't go to those attractions. But allow the rest of us who DO like those attractions to continue to enjoy them.

Some people have become so narrow minded, puritanical and overdosed on political correctness that they manage to suck the enjoyment out of just about anything nowadays. They are so literal minded that they wouldn't recognize 'tongue in cheek' without a medical atlas. And imposing their set of values on everyone else seems to be their only joy in life. Sad.

Seriously?? That's been part of my memories for so long!!! One of my dd's favorite things to sing to me!!! This is not going to be pretty if they take that away!!!!
I've about had it with the whole 'political correctness' movement. I find it to be completely offensive!!!!

:thumbsup2 i was actually looking for the "like" button.

:scared1: if you don't like it, dont' see it. mopst people love it.

OP ~ I just wanted to share with you my latest Tattoo:

If you see me at WDW, *especially* in CBJ, please get out of my way. World Domination and all... if ya know what's good for ya. :p :joker:

(p.s. - Everybody else, it's just a version of the Greek apotropaic eye - but if it moves me to the front of the line by conspiracy theorists, then so be it.... ;))

MK marketing is overwhelmingly geared towards young children [/B]so I can't believe that is even a point of contention.

this IS a point of contention, because the bolded is entirely false. perhaps Fantasyland is geared towards little kids, (even tho adults like hubby and I love it), but if you don't find something in the park appropraite fo ryou or your children, pass it by. .... but leave it for the rest of us, who love it.!

I didn't say get rid of Pooh. There were legions of people waiting to get on that awful ride. It has huge sentimental value to some even though it is an awful ride by any measure.

Country Bears was a ghost town. No wait. No one even standing on the porch to get out of the sun. Don't need an analyst and a long term study to tell you there is something wrong when an air conditioned ride geared to young children has no line in July. C'est la vie. Things change.
It may have been a ghost town when you were there, but it hasn't been when I've been there. Mostly full theater almost every time...and that's about twice a year for close to 10 years.
And Pooh??? That 'awful' ride'??? I have to ask..what rides/attractions do you think are good at MK???

You can rant and rave at me all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of M K visitors skip Country Bears. I'm sure the decision to shorten the show has to do with low usage, not the song. And yes, it s tacky that Disney hasnt ever bothered to spend the money to update pirates. Cheap not to include Elizabeth from the movies. It all comes down to dollars and Disney won't make any changes until finances force them to update attractions. I'm thrilled about the Fantasyland expansion! It may give us a reason to return this winter.

Remember, not every Disney has been going for the past 20 years. Not everyone will love the attractions you've loved for years.:hippie:

Um....just because a different movie comes along doesn't mean Disney needs to update existing attractions/rides. They made adjustments...enough for me.
I'm not sure how you 'know' that the majority of guests skip CBJ. You don't go in there...so how do you know.

Sorry, but the Pooh ride isn't all about sentimental. It's about little kids liking a fairly tame ride. From what I understand, there aren't all that many guests that think of Pooh as a 'must do' on every single trip..CBJ?? More so.
But hey...glad to see that Disney has your permission to change something with 'minimal backlash'. You may be surprised to find the backlash changing CBJ brings about!!!

Cathrynrose~

If you read my first post, I didn't bash cbj, I liked it and didn't remember the blood bit.... all the other posters had issues with It.... I thought It was odd and thought I had fallen asleep... :)

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Very well said and depressingly true!

Bowing out of conversation. If you can't admit WDW is marketed towards young children, then okay. All those cutesy characters and princesses and the Disney channel are adult advertising? What is wrong with Disney being associated with children?:confused3

We were clueless enough to do pooh our first visit because we didn't know any better. I imagine the majority of first time visitors also get sucked into the pooh ride. Poor unfortunate souls! :rotfl2:

My individual opinion has no more bearing on Disney decisions than does yours. I was trying to provide some insight into how other guests view the attraction. Not everyone loves what you love. It isn't the end of the world that I dislike Pooh! More ride time for you!

I guess this is a really bad time to mention that I hated the GMR? :lmao:

I think you need to remember this. Just because you and your family don't like a ride or rides doesn't mean it is a waste of space and needs to be redone or torn down.

And btw, Walt himself said Disney was for children of ALL ages. Meaning adult children too, not just little ones.

hubby and I (who go with no children) get sucked into pooh every time!;)
