Blood clots in my arm

Let me preface this with I am under medical care for this and am just seeking support or advice regarding this problem. I have a protocol from the doctor for ER visits for this condition. I know at this time I am safe calling my doctor tomorrow.

I have a blood clot that has been confirmed by ultrasound in my arm. It is superficial, so it won't move to my heart and therefore is not dangerous, according to my doctor. When doing the ultrasound scan they found old clot sights and said I had chronic damage.

Tonight I have swelling higher in my arm, in addition to the earlier clot. I am quite certain this is another clot as I can feel the lump and actually see the redness and swelling.

I will be calling the doctor again tomorrow as she told me to come in if I got additional swelling. I am taking an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. These were prescribed after she diagnosed the clot earlier in the week.

The theory of why the clot(s) formed is that in December, when I had an i.v. for the stomach flu, the i.v. blew and that vein never healed. I also have a blood clotting disorder that could be exasperating the problem, but they aren't sure.

Has anyone ever had experience with a situation like this? I am at my wit's end and frankly, superficial or not, these clots scare me. My ultrasound confirms previous clots, but I was never aware of them. This is my first known and diagnosed incidence of clotting.

I had DVT (blood clots deep in my leg) when I was pregnant with my last child. I ended up having a pulmonary embolism and nearly dying, and it scared the crap out of me. She's two now, and I still panic any time I get a cramp in my leg.

I have no advice other than to seek medical attention, which you already did. I just wanted to tell you that I understand how scary it is.

I had a DVT two weeks post partum with grace.. They found out i have a clotting condition called factor v leiden. Feel better soon.

I had a blood clot from an IV a couple of years ago. I had to go on blood thinners for a while (cumidin???) while it worked it's way out. I've had another since then that I know of. Ever since the blood clot I prefer to drive instead of fly for some weird reason.

Count in another with DVT in the left femoral vein. I was on coumadin for quite a while and have been on a daily aspirin since stopping that.

About two years ago I had a pain in my right arm that seemed to get worse day by day. Finally I could actually feel "something" protruding. I called my ObGyn (only because I had just been there and thought she could steer me in the right direction). She had me come in and sent me right away to get a procedure done (what I'll call a sonogram) on my arm. They sent me home after that but called a little while later to say that it was a clot. It was really near the surface so they didn't feel I needed to do anything drastic about it. I took Bayer aspirin for about a week and it disappeared.

I have been tested and they really don't know why I got the clot. The only thing that stood out it about 3-4 days before I got the pain in my arm I had been trying and trying to start my lawnmower. That's about it.

So now I take a baby aspirin every other day as a precaution. But any time I go to the doctors or have to have a procedure done I need to tell all about the clot. I guess this will always follow me. Of course, any time I get a weird pain I think hmmm could it be another clot? It's scary.
