Blondinkaya's Goin' Live (Food and Alcohol w/Pics)! Updated with Final Thoughts

the special at 50's prime time, is that new and is it offered every day, do you know? I have never seen that before with all 3 of my favorites!!! Can't wait to hear. :rolleyes1

For our entrees, both Donald and I got the special, which consisted of two pieces of fried chicken, greens, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, pot roast, and green beans and carrots. It was A LOT of food!

My favorite was the meatloaf, and Donald enjoyed the pot roast most of all. Funny thing, I ate all my green beans but not the greens, and he ate all of his greens but not his green beans. We got lectured for that, but it wasn't too stern.

I have never seen this special! Is it new or something they have everyday now. Tell me more, tell me more.....anyone?:rolleyes1

The special was not on the menu. Our server mentioned it when she went over the most popular entrees with us. Hopefully you'll have the chance to try the sampler!

Sorry about the delay in posting … So much for being live! Anyway … moving along …

Wednesday, Feb 16th:

Dear Diary,

Today was a fantastic day! We went to Animal Kingdom in time to make rope drop. It was a good thing, too, as we were a bit pressed for time! We wanted to hit Expedition Everest (well, Goofy and I kept our feet firmly set on the ground), the Safari, and the first showing of the Lion King before our 11:00am ressie at Yak & Yeti. Everest was a walk on, and the Safari had a bit of a wait. We booked it right over to the Lion King as soon as we could, with just minutes to share. This was our first time at the show, and it’s definitely going to be a repeat!

Back to the food … We checked in a few minutes before 11am and had to wait. We were seated upstairs, right next to our 2009 table. Donald ordered the Bonsai Blast, and I got the Yak Attack. Midway into our meal, Donald ordered one as well.

Both boys ordered Sprites with their meals.

Entrees included a cheeseburger, fruit gelatin, and fried rice for Mickey:

Goofy ordered the sweet and sour chicken:

Donald got the ribs and licked the plate! Not really, but he could have!

I ordered the steak and shrimp. The steak was really good, but I’m not a fan of shrimp. I let Donald and Mickey have them. Mickey definitely takes after his dad; he loved sharing his escargot at Les Chefs de France back in 2009.

I have a confession to make. Once we received our desserts, everything after that basically became a blur and I forgot to take pics later in the day. I would like to call it the dessert coma. Donald and I ordered the wontons. I have to say that this has got to be my favorite dessert in all of Walt Disney World! If you don’t mind a pic of partially eaten food, here’s a skewer:

Goofy got the mango pie. Like I said, I was pretty much in a food coma by now, so I didn’t get a pic, but I do know that he enjoyed it very much.

After Yak & Yeti, we hopped over to MK to make up for Tuesday’s debacle. We used snack credits at Aloha Isle on a Dole Whip float that Donald and I shared, a pineapple soft serve for Goofy, and an orange soft serve for Mickey. Sorry, no pics. Like I said, food coma!

After a lot of riding and time to digest the day’s goodies, we stopped by Pecos Bill’s. Donald and Goofy ordered the 1/3 lb angus burger, I ordered the deluxe, and Mickey got the hamburger kids meal with apple slices and fries. I was still in my food cloud and don’t have pics of the burgers, but I did manage to take shots of the desserts.

Donald and I ordered the carrot cake:

Goofy got the chocolate cake:

We all had water with our meal.

We’ve had Pecos Bill’s before. I like it. I’m not any kind of a burger snob, though. And none of us had a problem with our buns falling apart. In fact, Mickey never suffered a single occurrence, and he was the master of eating things with buns (hard to avoid on the kids plan).

Thursday morning we slept in a bit and made our way to Epcot for a few rides before our Le Cellier lunch. I’ve been fortunate to be able to reserve this every single trip we’ve made. And I always order the same thing.

Donald and I started out with Moosehead drafts and the boys ordered sodas.

Donald and I ordered cups of cheese soup (paying oop). I love cheese soup with the pretzel bread! Mickey’s soup was included in the plan.

Goofy decided to go with the 3-course meal and got the spicy chicken and chipoltle sausage.

Mickey ordered the hot dog and French fries with a sundae for dessert. He loves his ice cream!

For our entrees, Donald and I ordered the mushroom filet:

Goofy ordered a shaved steak open-faced sandwich:

For dessert, Donald and I both ordered the maple crème brule:

Goofy ordered the raspberry seasonal sourbet.

By the end of the meal, Donald and I had had our second Mooseheads and were ready to make our way over to Mexico.

After Le Cellier, we headed over to Mexico’s Margarita Stand for drinks. I ordered a strawberry and Donald the fiesta margarita.

We then stopped by the kiosk between the Margarita Stand and Norway to get premium Mickey bars for the boys:

We very slowly made our way up to the Africa Coolpost, finishing our treats before visiting Norway and riding Maelstrom. We went through China on Monday and skipped it this time around. Once at the Africa Coolpost, the boys got slushes and Donald and I got Safari Ambers. We sat down at a nearby table to watch the Illuminations barges enter the lagoon.

0217111531-00.jpg

I guess you can say that we took our time drinking around the world since we did some on Monday and some yesterday. We did skip drinks in Norway, Italy, and the Unites States, so I guess it wasn’t a real world crawl. It’s pretty good for me, though.

Coming back to my story … Our next stop was for those yummy Grand Marnier slushes! Yep, it was a repeat visit, they’re that good!

0217111641-00.jpg

We stopped at the spot between France and England so the boys could harass the birds and Donald and I could sit down and enjoy our drinks. Afterwards, we hit the Rose & Crown Pub for Welsh Dragons.

0217111717-00.jpg

We sat on a bench between England and Canada and listened to Off Kilter before a bit before heading to the Friendship boat dock to take us to our counter service dinner at the Tangierine Café.

By the time we got to Tangierine Café, me feet were pretty sore and I was pretty sore. I’m kicking myself for buying new socks before the trip. My others are low cuts, and I was worried about my tennis shoes rubbing the back of my foot. Little did I know that my new socks are much thinner. Thank goodness for moleskin, but it did not alleviate my pain!

So … we slowly made our way off the boat ramp and up to the Café, placed our orders, then I hobbled over to an outdoor table with Mickey and Donald and Goofy brought our plates out. Mickey ordered a hamburger and we had to wait about 15 minutes for it. At least we can tell they make them fresh!

Goofy had a chicken wrap. He was still full from his soda, Mickey head, and lunch and wasn’t able to finish it. But he did like it.

0217111835-00.jpg

Donald and I had the lamb and chicken shawarma platters. I shared mine with Mickey while we were waiting for his hamburger to arrive. He liked both the lamb and the chicken, but he’s not a fan of chilled couscous. I’m not, either, but I ate it.

For dessert, we had the baklava. And Donald and I also had sangria, as shown in the platter pic.

Today was our final day at the World. I hated to leave, but I guess it was time to come back to the real world.

We packed up and headed to Downtown Disney. It’s our tradition to shop Downtown and get Earl of Sandwich to go and putting the food into the cooler to have when we get home. It sort of stretches the magic just a little bit longer, kwim?

We stopped by Wolfgang Puck Express for an oop breakfast. Donald ordered the bacon pizza:

I the mushroom and spinach omelet:

0218110918-01.jpg

Both Goofy and Mickey got the chocolate chip waffle.

0218110917-00.jpg

I wish I’d known that the pizza was so large; Donald and I could have shared! Needless to say, it was a very filling breakfast and our tummies were fueled for a morning of shopping.

Before saying goodbye to Disney (until my business trip in April), we stopped by Goofy’s to use our last two snack credits. Mickey chose a really tall, skinny lollypop, and Goofy got a rocky road brownie.

0218111647-02.jpg

We then headed over to Earl of Sandwich.

Mickey got the PB and J:

0218111646-01.jpg

Goofy got the Mediterranean tuna wrap:

0218111646-00.jpg

Donald ordered the Caribbean jerk chicken:

0218111647-00.jpg

I got the Hawaiian BBQ.

0218111646-02.jpg

We all got peanut brownie cream sandwiches for the dessert. Goofy and Mickey already ate theirs. I’m still too full from the sandwich to have mine!

I've really enjoyed your reviews. I don't blame you for not keeping up with the live reports, I really admire people who can. It always takes me way too long to upload pics and write the descriptions to do it while I'm at the World!

Looks like you guys had an awesome trip!! Darn you now I'm bothe hungry and in need of a drink. :rotfl:

Okay, I've had a day to recuperate from our trip. Looking back, I have no idea how we ever managed on the DxDP. The regular plan suits us just fine. Even better: Donald didn't gain a single pound (once, on DxDP, he gained 9 :scared1:); I gained a pound and a half, which I'm not necessarily blaming on Disney dining, as my weight tends to fluctuate a couple of pounds here and there. One thing I noticed is that we used all but two of our snack credits; those were finished by our Goofy Candy Company purchase. We would've had 12 left over had we gone with DxDP. Well, probably more because we would've spent fewer snack credits due to the increased number of meal credits and included appies. As far as snack credits went, this was my first time allowing the boys to get whatever they wanted and not trying to get the most bang for my buck, so to speak. Several snack credits were used on beverages.

So ... Here is a list of my TS and CS rankings, from favorite to least favorite.

TS
1. Yak and Yeti
2. Le Cellier
3. 50's Prime Time
4. Kona

Don't get me wrong, they were all very good. And, honestly, #2 and 3 are pretty much tied. I enjoyed Le Cellier as I always have, but I really appreciated the theming of 50's Prime Time. Kona's food was as wonderful as always, but the place is just plain noisy.

CS
1. Tangierine Cafe
2. Wolfgang Puck Express (oop)
3. Earl of Sandwich
4. Pecos Bill's
5. Roaring Forks

Tangierine Cafe beat out WPE for two reasons. First, it's hard to rank a breakfast as a best meal. Second, Tangierine Cafe provides something a bit different and offers a lot of variety on a single platter. Roaring Forks ranked last because the burger reminded me of the chow hall burgers I used to get when I was in the military and lived in the single airmen dormitory. It wasn't anything special at all. The only redeeming factor was the fact that I was able to get a large bowl of fruit as a dessert.

As for drinks, I really enjoyed sampling what the World Showcase has to offer. I definitely love me some Grand Marnier slushes!

I guess that's it. Thanks for reading my very first dining report. It was as live as I could get. I really didn't realize how difficult live reporting is, and this was just a dining report! I cannot imagine trying to do a live trip report! :scared1: My hat's off to everyone who can do either one. :flower3:

And, with that, Blondinkaya is signing off (well, unless someone has a question) ...

Personally, I would pick something in Epcot. The TS restaurants I haven't tried there (yet) are those in Mexico, Norway, China, Japan, and Italy ... and the Garden Grill. Wow, that's a lot I haven't tried! I'd say my favorite restaurant so far would have to be Chefs de France. I know it gets mixed reviews, but I really like it. It feels so ... continental!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do the review. Very well done! I'm really excited now. Only a little over a month until ADR time! Can't wait to try some of those drinks!
Kelly
