Blocking another persons posts?

The OP was asking a simple question, how is it done. Getting response from TPTB to a question can sometimes be quite difficult here, and asking other posters is generally a quick fix. As for leaving a board to go to another board because a poster is bothered by another is certainly not an adult thing to do. Why should a poster leave a board where that poster may be enjoying him/herself, other than the fact that there is one or two jamokes on that board, whom, with a simple setting, can ignore seeing those for the most part?

No you misunderstand. Why query this board hen there are technical and community boards? This has as much to do with Theme Park strategy as drunks in Epcot.

Who would block me? I'm too adorable.

And modest to boot!:rotfl2:

Actually, I have thought about blocking people before. But I haven't for a couple of reasons. First, it would make some threads read funny. You could see people who were responding to the person you blocked, but couldn't see what they were responding to. Some days, it takes all my focus to read the threads as they are, let alone doing it with some parts missing!

Second, I like to hear everyone's point of view, even if I don't agree with it. And in spite of Conventional Wisdom that state there are certain subjects you can not change people's minds about, I have been known to change my opinion.

And I would hate to miss out on any nugget of good info out there. Sometimes even if you don't agree or particularly like a certain poster, they can have great insight and knowledge. Why loose out on that, just because I don't like them?

And for having the rather large number of posts that I have, I have only ever reported 3 posts. And those were all for name calling. Imho, if you stoop to name calling, you don't have much of a real argument for your point of view. If you can't make your point without calling someone "stupid" "an idiot" or a "sheeple" then you should just keep your thoughts to yourself.

Thanks for asking this, OP. I didn't even know you could do that. Will definitely be putting it to good use :thumbsup2

Glad it helps those who'd like to use the feature. I read about it years ago in someones post but never thought I'd want to use it. Times change.

The sad part is the one you blocked can still see your posts, so if you made enemies, they will continue to reply to your posts. Best is just to ignore some people, you do not have to reply to every post after all.

Ditto...just ignore 'em. Don't give someone the satisfaction. But, if you just positively HAVE to respond, use humor. Most of the time they are too ignorant to know they've been slammed! :lmao: I doubt they'll even get it now after reading this! :rotfl2:

I used to be modest on here, but after my slams upon the ignorant became less and less veiled, I figured...what the hell. I'll speak my mind and toot my horn because who really gives a Mickey Bar what the response may be. Those who get it "get it", those who don't are usually policing everyone else.

True, my favorite when they ask, what do you mean?

Hey there, it's really not that bad here. Don't give up.

CB replies would have been full of "why do you ask that here" replies, and who even thinks about the Technical board? OP could have asked, gotten his/her answer, and toodled along, if there had been no extra commentary. (Sorry OP, I'm part of the commentary)

Making a query where one is comfortable sometimes works. A poster started a thread here about what is a good camera to buy after she had originally posted it on the photography board. That board is currently having much of the existing threads merged in mega jumbo threads. Her thread went into one of the jumbos and was subsequently ignored. On the board it belonged on. She reasked the question here and was answered quite promptly with several good suggestions. If you look at the tech board, you will see questions there go unanswered and slowly die an ignored death. I used to try and answer questions there but was whacked for doing so and I too ignore that board now. As for the community board, see b-shoot's reply above. And if posted there, and not answered promptly, it would be on page 3 there, and oblivion, in 2 hours.

So, OP asked here, got her answer, and an in depth discussion on the matter to boot.

Go to the top menu, on the second bar click "User CP", then click "Edit Ignore"; you will then enter the user name of the person you don't want to see posts from. You can change your mind and add them back later if you wish. Hope it wasn't me! :goodvibes

Thanks! Never knew this:confused3

All of yall must have blocked me...No one responded to my post...:rotfl2:

Yes I agree. I wouldn't dream of reporting someone (don't know how to do THAT either, lol) unless it was really horrible.
I agree, I think the problem is people are overly sensitive and mistake disagreement for being mean. Just because someone gives a different view point or has a strong opinion doesn't mean that they are a pot stirrer or a bully. If you are going to post on a discussion board, you should be adult enough to handle debate and disagreements.

But, I'm sure I'm on quite a few ignore lists myself- I'm fine with that.;):rotfl2:

Hmmmm... I wonder if I could block myself.... I've been known to say things that even offend ME!

I have reported a few people myself... but it was either spam or BLATANT reasons for reporting. I mean calling people some pretty bad things and personal attacks blatant. Not just "oh what a meanie head" things. These were things that made me upset that a person would post such things and I am an online gamer.

But I have never ignored a person because I can just mentally ignore a person. I just skip over their posts or read them and laugh. If I don't like the way a thread is going, then I close it. However, that is what works for me and it may not be the way others want to deal with it. That is why the ignore feature exists.
