Blocking another persons posts?

Billy, there is nothing wrong with using the ignore feature or asking about it. For some, it is not about being thin-skinned or taking disagreements as hateful comments, but a way to ensure you (generally speaking) avoid conflict....some people come here just to be hateful, stir crap and insult people they know nothing about. I can think of about 6 users/posters off the top of my head.



And for the record, I do use the feature. As a matter of fact, I have somebody on this page on my ignore list. The Dis folks added it because they know some people just live to create controversy. I am sure they would encourge people to use it rather than to get into heated debates.

I know, my issue was using this forum to ask the question instead of a more apporiate one. But then I was told that people are ignored elsewhere? Which is exactly why I don't post about drunken ducks on the community board. Because if it makes a noise, is anyone around to hear it?

I agree, I think the problem is people are overly sensitive and mistake disagreement for being mean. Just because someone gives a different view point or has a strong opinion doesn't mean that they are a pot stirrer or a bully. If you are going to post on a discussion board, you should be adult enough to handle debate and disagreements.

But, I'm sure I'm on quite a few ignore lists myself- I'm fine with that.

True, some people are very sensitive to any disagreement with their positions. But most are reasonable people with whom one can intelligently discuss an issue and keep it at that level.

There are a few, however, who will flog any disagreement into a personal knock-down, drag-out flame session, and do so repeatedly. And it is often painful to read their attacks, even without being the target.

So the ignore list is one of those "sliced bread" inventions.

The only thing that could make it better would be a top-ten listing of who's on the most ignore lists, published in a sticky on the community board.

I can guarantee you that the same people who would repudiate such a list, would make it the most viewed thread in the HISTORY of the DIS.
