Hey guys, I can't believe I agreed to it, I've been set up on a blind date by my uncle. I figured what have I got to lose. Though not too long ago I vowed never to go out on a blind date again since the first and only one I've gone on was a total disaster. My expectations are certainly not too high. So I figured I'd love to hear some stories, good or bad, of your experiences on blind dates.
You all always have such great stories, so I'm looking forward to it!

I've been on the same blind date for 8 years.

My DH's cousin (my co-worker at the time) fixed us up. It was my first and last blind date.

Just relax and enjoy it. If it tanks, you'll have a great story for the DIS! :teeth:

I've been married to my blind date for 16 years.

Not so much a blind date as a set up, but same idea. I am married to him so I guess my advice is go with an open mind :)

Good luck. I am so glad I am not single.

Mine was more an accidental sighting then a blind date .DW was SIL freind when I went to pick up brother 24 years ago.

Well, it's nice to see they aren't all horror stories, hehehe I'll stay optimistic :cool1:

I'm another one who married there blind date (22 years in July). I was also like you and had said, "NO more blind dates!". I'm sure glad I changed my mind!

I've never had a blind date..but my best friend had one a couple of years ago, she told me after their first date that there were no sparks, but she'd go out with him again, because he was nice and she just may get a new friend..
Well, they are now planning their wedding. :goodvibes
Some more time spent with him and she fell in love. Happy ending. :thumbsup2

My co-worker set us up to meet at her house. We had a nice evening, and 3 years later, I married him. Going on 15 years.

If that counts as a blind date, mine turned out OK!!!!!!

I thank god for blind dates or else I wouldn't be alive! My parents first date was a blind date on New Year's Eve. Funny thing, my mom didn't like him that first night - no clue why they went out again. On that first date, my mom is claustophobic and it was a packed house - she asked to go outside for some air, which she really meant, but my lovely dad thought she meant something else! :rotfl:

I've been married to my blind date for almost 21 years!

I went on a blind date that was OK. We dated for a while but nothing long-term.

My parents met on a blind date, and they'll be married 50 years this June!!

You all have such lovely stories, it's so nice to hear that so many people have such lasting marriages. :thumbsup2

I was 22 and was set up on a blind date by a co-worker at the time....he was divorced, and a little older....14 years older....anyway, I wasn't too impressed with him, and I made up my mind not to see him anymore. he called a few times, and my Mom pushed me into seeing him again...big mistake, but we wound up living together not too long aftetwards.....got pregannant...got married...got preggers again....got my butt kicked around the 5 years I was with him...excaped once went back....excaped the FINAL time and its been 22 years since I have seen him. His kids are now 23 and 24 and have never seen him either which is just as well. I am presently with my DH now, and he was instrumental in my leaving my X! So, no more blind dates for ME! ;)

I'm one of the lucky ones. I'll be married to my blind date for 25 years come June.

A couple we both knew set us up. She was jealous that her boyfriend spent one evening a week playing pool with my future husband. So she set us up hoping that he would become interested in me. It worked. They were married before we were. We haven't seen them in over 20 years. We tried to stay in touch with them but she was so jealous of their friendship she made sure that it ended.

I also married my one & only blind date (been married almost 9 years). The nice thing was that our mutual friend gave him my phone number, so we talked for about 2 weeks before we actually met. So that was a good thing. We already knew what we had in common & good things to talk about, so the date wasn't awkward at all. We also went to a comedy club, so we didn't feel like we had to hold a conversation the whole time (like you would out to dinner).

Any chance you could talk to him on the phone before hand? What are you guys gonna do on your date. Both are pretty important to a successful blind date, IMHO.

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

He has my phone number so he's suppose to call. Apparently he's really shy, lets hope not too shy to phone ;) I think we'll go out for coffee, I cant remember if I mentioned this, but my last blind date, we went for dinner. Bad idea. It was way too long, so I think going for coffee would be a good idea.

My blind date and I were engaged 3 months after we first went out. Been married 16 years this month!

Blind dates can be fun. Ive been on quite a few over the years. I usually go in with no expectations and try to enjoy myself. Best thing is since there are no expectations, I just be myself. Which means totally being myself. So if we go to dinner, I actually eat dinner. No "ill just have salad and a water". No way, im ordering ribs. My friends laugh at me for that. But why and I gonna pretend to be something Im not. Obviously, the person who set us up knows how I am and knows how he is, and still they think we would make a good couple. So why show up being someone Im not.

Funniest blind date I had was when an ex BF of mine set me up with a former co-worker of his. We had a ton in common, too much actually, so we ended up just being friends. But the date was actually a crack up. We ended up sitting and talking for hours over a couple of beers in the bowling alley bar.

Lucky for me, there hasnt really been a horrible blind date. Only a few I would like to not repeat. But none that have scarred me for life or anything.

Go on the blind date. You could have fun. Besides, they always make for good stories later on.
