Because we were out of town for Christmas, I have yet to get a gift for my son's grandmother. I'd like to get her something really nice, and I'm a big fan of giving activities/events rather than "stuff" for Christmas.
Anyway, she's a very religious lady (pretty conservative Baptist, if that makes a difference in your answer to this), and always has the Gospel Music station playing on her TV when we go visit. She's also often eager to share her religion with her grandson (my son, who is 10) but he has no interest in going to church with her.
Anyway, my local NPR station has been talking about this upcoming concert by the blind boys, and it occurred to me that this might make a pretty nice Christmas gift, combined with a framed photo of her grandson. The 3 of us could go together, we'd all hear some nice music. She'd get to share an important part of her tradition
But, since I'm not a "real" gospel fan, I thought I would come here and check. Are the Blind Boys of Alabama considered good by those who love gospel (they sound good to me, but I'm not an expert)? If someone gave you this gift would you be thrilled, or annoyed that they spent money when you could hear better stuff at Church each Sunday?
