Because we were out of town for Christmas, I have yet to get a gift for my son's grandmother. I'd like to get her something really nice, and I'm a big fan of giving activities/events rather than "stuff" for Christmas.

Anyway, she's a very religious lady (pretty conservative Baptist, if that makes a difference in your answer to this), and always has the Gospel Music station playing on her TV when we go visit. She's also often eager to share her religion with her grandson (my son, who is 10) but he has no interest in going to church with her.

Anyway, my local NPR station has been talking about this upcoming concert by the blind boys, and it occurred to me that this might make a pretty nice Christmas gift, combined with a framed photo of her grandson. The 3 of us could go together, we'd all hear some nice music. She'd get to share an important part of her tradition

But, since I'm not a "real" gospel fan, I thought I would come here and check. Are the Blind Boys of Alabama considered good by those who love gospel (they sound good to me, but I'm not an expert)? If someone gave you this gift would you be thrilled, or annoyed that they spent money when you could hear better stuff at Church each Sunday?

The Blind Boys of Alabama are Gospel music legends! That is a great gift! It is not often that one gets to see them perform live, so it would definitely be a treat. :goodvibes

Alright then, keep your fingers crossed for us. There are tickets available, but I need "accessible tickets". Here's hoping they have some for us tomorrow morning!

I hope this works out, she's a wonderful lady and it would be great to do something really special for her.

They are awesome and I think those tickets would make a great gift.

Yay! Sometimes being a senior citizen pays off. There were only 1 or 2 seats together available in regular seating, but when I called about accessible seating (which she genuinely needs, I'm not making up the accessibility needs) they still had 3 together. At first they wouldn't sell me 3 together because their policy is that people with disabilities can only have one "companion" but when I explained that the 3rd person is a child who really shouldn't be sitting alone either they waived that policy.

I hope she likes it!
