Blind as a Bat and Rip Ride Rockit

It's been years since I've been to UO and I was wondering how eye glasses are dealt with on Rip Ride Rockit. My vision is extremely poor and there is no way I'll be able to choose a song without them. The last time I rode it, about 5 years ago, I ended up with some sort of techno music stuff that I couldn't even begin to recognize. It won't be the end of the world if I can't, but is there anyway to wear glasses on this ride or some trick to selecting something more recognizable to a 55 year old?

Thanks!

Get a Croakies-type elastic glasses strap. I use them on all non-Disney roller coasters. I can't see well enough to walk straight without my glasses, so taking them off isn't an option.

Thanks! I was wondering if they'd allow them with the new (to me) metal detectors.

My husband and son both wear their glasses on all coasters and they never come off.

If they fit well and don't fall off when you lean forward they'll be fine to wear in the coasters.

Thanks for the advice! I didn't realize that you could wear your glasses on the ride, that's great! I'm a bit of a worry wart though, think I'll buy one of the straps and ride along to something a tad more age appropriate this time.

I used Chums Originals which is a cotton strap that is adjustable. I needed my glasses too and the Chums held them snuggly on my head.

Chums and Croakies both work the same and are effective in keeping glasses where they should be and not fly out on the ground.

Another glasses wearer here, I've only had them come off on Space Mountain at WDW, because of a sudden stop.

I kept a sports strap on them (you can buy cool patterned ones from eBay) and that meant the one time they did come off they just ended up round my neck.

90% of the time the G-Forces will keep them on though!

Dd wears a sport strap because although they'd probably be fine, she'd be in big trouble if they got lost (she can't see without them) and it would cut into valuable vacation time to get her another pair (and most one hour places can't do her prescription and it takes a few days.)

That said, I wore mine on RRR without a strap and it was fine.

I've never had an issue with my glasses coming off or had anyone say I couldn't wear them on a ride.

Thank you so much, it's very reassuring to hear first hand accounts. My dorky head strap came in from Amazon yesterday. It will be nice to ride along to something I actually choose for once!

ohhhhhkayyyyy.

disboards are owned by people who live in Florida, and I think Universal is owned by Comcast, so....

What I suggest is when you go on a coaster you're unfamiliar with, just press your finger to the bridge of your glasses when the coaster stops at the end if you're feeling insecure about it. You then judge for yourself if the force of stopping at the end will result in you losing your glasses, or not if you ever decide to ride in the future. If not sure, just keep doing it. You doing on simple gesture at the end of your ride isn't a big deal.

However, you should not worry. As much as RRR kind of jolts you around and what not, I did not have my glasses come off during the duration of the ride. That being said, no ride at Universal has made my glasses fall off. I, too, am blind as a bat and cannot take them off. When you hear announcements about needing to store all loose articles including "glasses", typically that means sunglasses, as a lot of people typically have them on top of their head and will fall off.

I normally take my glasses off for coasters, but last year bought chums / croakies for everyone. Soooo much better to see the ride. I have also been known to wear my current prescription glasses everywhere except the theme park, and wear the previous set of glasses on park days. My prescriptions don't change much these days, so it's not a big deal to switch, and if something happens, we can just go back to the condo and get my new ones. Even just having the last set available "just in case" is a great idea. Mine take at least a week to come in, so I could never wait for a pair to be made.

Thanks for all of the advice!

I never got the opportunity to try out my dorky strap and in review can only say that a Croakies strap is absolutely useless on Rip Ride Rockit when it's left stowed away in a suitcase back in your hotel room :rolleyes1

I just put my glasses in the locker and rode blind. My right eye isn't quite as bad (legally blind in the left) so I took a good squint at the menu while they were dealing with a last minute change of mind on the part of a ten year old vis a vis death by roller coaster. Picked, (I think, it was all a bit fuzzy) Pop/Disco and ended up with "I Will Survive". Personally, I enjoyed RRR sooooo much more sans the Daft Punk soundtrack.

Sometimes it can be a better ride without the glasses

If you can not see what is going to happen ahead , you won't be scared as you can't see it.....

And it's over so fast you will be off the ride wanting to try it again
