Pre-Trip & Trip Down:
Will We Ever Get Going?
The week leading up to our trip was full of uncertainties. DFIL was back in the hospital in coronary care facing surgery that was delayed due to an onset of shingles. All got straightened out with him and he went home from the hospital the day before we left for our trip. We were behind getting ready to go, so we didnt get to leave our house until late. We had planned to stay at the airport hotel as we had an 8:00 am flight. We arrived there around 3:00 am, just in time to grab a couple hours of sleep. I wasnt able to sleep too excited about the trip and too worried we would oversleep and miss the flight, so I just rested until it was time to wake everyone up.
The kids didnt want to get up so early, but we got them going and made our way to the lobby to catch the shuttle to the airport. There we met two very nice United pilots just checking in who gave the kids each flying wings. Wow, it was quite an honor and the kids were thrilled as the pilots put them on them. What a sweet start to our trip.
Security checks went smoothly. The folks at Dulles did a very nice job. I had planned it so none of us had any metal on as I was afraid we would get separated from the kids. I did request they handcheck my film all 30 rolls of it. The man was very nice. He did a test of each roll with a small cloth I presume to detect explosives. We made it thru security in time to grab a quick breakfast.
Our flight down went well. Dd3 slept the whole flight. Ds5 loved the plane trip. He enjoyed watching take-off and being up in the clouds, as well as listening to the kids music thru the headset. We got out his backpack I had packed full of treats and that kept him entertained for the duration of the flight.
We had arranged for Cartier towncar to meet us with a van for our trip to Coronado Springs. The driver was waiting for us in the luggage area, however he did not help us with the luggage he just told us what bay to meet him at. A wonderfully nice sky cap helped us with our bags and we met the Cartier driver where he said he would be. Unfortunately, he did not have the booster seat we had requested with him. He did have a car seat for our daughter. I was disappointed as I had made a point of calling the day before to confirm our reservation and our car & booster seat requests. We had a good trip to the hotel with a brief grocery stop.
