We were just in WDW at the end of July and had a pretty awful trip. Mainly it was because of my 4yo's meltdowns (she was the girl screaming at the entrance to the MGM studios on the 26th at about 11:30am....I really tried to get her to our room before meltdown hit, but she saw baloons and totally wigged out...and no, she did not get a balloon) but also because my dh and I are tired of not getting to do the things we want because of the kids. We almost cancelled our December reservations at VWL...but then decided to invite my parents.

So, they finally got their vacation time approved and their airline tickets purchased....and I called to see if we could possibly get a 2br for them to stay with us rather than making them get a room at the WL (felt bad since I basically begged them to come and babysit a few times for us!).

I was thrilled to be able to immediately book all but the first night. We're waitlisted for that and hopefully it will come through...but even then its only one night to worry about and its not in the middle of the trip or anything. I swear the DVC fairy likes me! If only she'd leave some more points under my pillow!

Just had to share!

Just wanted to say that I feel your pain - we canceled our trip for December because of my not-even-2-year-old's-just-started-this melt downs! Maybe in a few years.........

Lucky you! Somehow I think your first night is going to come through, too! We're going early December, too. Bet we'll all have great trips!

Best wishes -

P.S. It's fun to go with kids, but IMHO, it's even more fun to go without them, LOL (ours is now 23 and can't go due to college). This is our year to go with kids, though - my brother's two boys. Love them both dearly, but it sure is nice to know that it's my DB & DSIL who have to handle meltdowns or any discipline issues!

my dh and I are tired of not getting to do the things we want because of the kids

Be careful of what you wish for...the days of meltdowns, nightmares, and dirty diapers are limited in number and will be over before you know it. For me...I don't want to miss a second..crankyness or not ;)

I've gone into super planning mode for December...mainly planning plenty of down time to make sure dd is never hungry or tired or overwhelmed or has to wait for us without something fun to do. I really thought things were getting better as she got older....but I think because they were getting better I didn't plan as well and tried to do to much. We also have a problem with dh and 9yo ds giving in to her whims to avoid a total meltdown....so she's learned that if she whines and cries enough she sometimes gets her way....which makes it that much harder on me!

In December she'll be several months older and we're only going to the parks 2 days. With 4 adults we should be able to trade off doing kid things with her and all get to do what we want too.

We've just had exceptional luck in getting the reservations we need at any time.....I really thought it was likely for nothing to be available at all that week. Though I always plan and make reservations at 11 months, it seems like I end up changing them, or at least adding to them almost every trip.

Hopefully someone on the waitlist for a 1br is very happy now!

Oh I hear you, kadorto.....but I am at home with my kids all day, every day. And after nine years of adapting for one kid or another we'd just like a little break to do the things we like without anyone complaining that they'd rather do something else, or needing to be taken to the restroom....or whatever. Its hard being responsible for 3 other people 24/7. We figured some quality grandparent time was called for....especially since we moved away from them a little over a year ago.

Mom just needs a few hours off every so often....and its nice when Dad can have those same hours off too.

Being a mom is both the best and the hardest job in the world.

AMEN!

My DW and I really need to get out more often as well. When are you going down in December? We’ll try to schedule a trip down....as fellow VWL owners; maybe your parents wouldn't mind watching our two little ones as well. LOL

Best wishes for your trip..I'm sure the kids will love being with their grandparents WDW or not. I lost both of my parents not long ago and they certainly left a void..not only in my life but my two DS as well. Out of the blue, my oldest (4yoa) asked me about my "mommy" the other day. I really don't know why he thought of her since she died when he was a small baby. But it was nice telling him all about his grandma. So...even though it sounds like a bit of an effort to put this trip together...you've been blessed by more than just the DVC fairy :genie:

Enjoy your trip...looking forward to reading about it.

I cancelled our December trip yesterday. 12/26-31. But we were at BCV so it won't help much. Keep in mind if you have too book two studio's for the first night just request that one of them be part of your 2nd nights reservation that way you can stuff everyones belongings in the one room and be on about your business first thing the next morning. Then it won't matter what time you are able to get into your whole unit.

Good luck and have a great time. I loved it the summer my mother went with us.

As a Mom with 3 boys under 3 , I feel your pain. Sending pixie dust your way.:wizard:

I'm glad to read the DVC fairy helped plan your next trip by having available rooms for you! Hopefully the first night will come through for you. December is a nice time to visit WDW especially if you like Christmas!

What about taking advantage of the kids clubs? BCV has an excellent kids club. My son Loved it there! He would actualy ask to go there sometimes instead of going out to dinner with us. Moms and Dads can get a few hours of adult time and the kids can get some relaxing playtime with other kids their age. Check it out.
