On another thread, someone brought up "Popples" (a type of stuffed animal that rolled up into a ball) from WAY back when. It got me thinking about all the other toys, games, stuffed animals and tv shows I grew up loving.

Risk
Thundercats
Voltron
The Snorks
Smurfs
Strawberry Shortcake (the original)
Carebears
Atari
Coleecovision (we had this one..no Atari)
Donkey Kong (and Donkey Kong Jr.)
Jelly Shoes
Rubber bracelets/bangles

DH has a video game emulator on our computer and has aspirations (or delusions) of building a cabinet like the arcades have for his computer so he can play Dragon's Lair, Q'Bert, Pac- Man, and such on an actual big arcade console. I personally have not been able to stop playing Frogger, Super Mario Bros, and Contra since he installed the dang thing!

What a coincidence. I was just thinking a couple of days ago about old shows I used to watch. I found on YouTube the theme song from Out of this World and some episodes of Small Wonder. I used to love those shows! :goodvibes DBF was watching Growing Pains on Nick at Night and I asked him why they play shows like that and not Out of this World. He was like, "Out of this WHAT??" :rotfl:

Games:
Simon
Clue
Battle Ship
Pong
Twister

Fashion:
The sideways pony tail (EGADS! It's coming back in style)

I still have my son's Get Along Gang Clubhouse Caboose. He loved Montgomery Moose and Zipper Cat!

Here are some from MY childhood:

Betsy Wetsy
Thumbelina
Creepy Crawlers/Creeple Peeple
Buttons, the Puppy with a Brain
Play-Mobile (looked like a car dashboard with car noises, blinkers etc.)
Jingle Jump
My Merry playsets (including miniature cleaning products so we could commit to brand names early on!--the boxes were empty though)
Miss Revlon doll
Mexican jumping beans
Cap guns (give your kid gunpowder! Lovely!)
Mystery Date game
Super ball (the large black original)

Wow, I am dating myself here!

OMG..I remember jelly shoes. I had a pair of neon yellow ones. When I was a senior in HS, a local shoe store was trying to revive the fashion and I bought two pair of high heeled (square, chunky heels) ones--black and 'rootbeer' which was sort of brownish-black. :)

TOV

texasthumper, I'll join you and date myself, too. I loved Mystery Date! Also, remember Colorforms? And the Betsey McCall paperdoll that was in each month's issue of McCall's magazine?

Yeah, I loved Mystery Date. Poindexter

I think these are from a few years before those already mentioned:

Easy Bake Oven
Chatty Cathy
Wispy Walker
Barbies whose knees didn't bend
Rockem Sockem Robots
Troll dolls
Silly Putty
Thing Makers

Loved Popples. Loved Snorks and fraggle rock. I bought jellies last year in my size to remind me of my younger days. We also has colleco (sp?) and atari and a commodore 64. My dad loved that stuff. We played summer olympics on the commodore. Best game ever!

What about Pinwheel, Picture Pages and Special Delivery on Nickelodeon. I have always wanted to see old episodes of these shows. I also liked the Super Mario Bros./Legend of Zelda TV show and cereal. I believe the DVD sets of SMB and LoZ have been released recently. It was so much fun being a kid in the 80's!

My dd got mystery date for Christmas this year because I loved it so much! The new version is a little lamer_ if that is possible. But still funny and it has the same great door!!!! It is slightly more politically correct with the dud. not the dirty wierdo from our game you need to match your cards to a guy and then open the door to find that guy. Takes some of the "will he be a dream AAAAHHHHH or a dud ooooohhhhhhhhh" fun out.

OK...I know I'm older the the OP...but:
Shrinky Dinks
Slime
Slime with worms
Stretch Man
Weeble Wobbles
Barbie Town House
Baby Alive

Ahhh....youth.

I loved jelly shoes!

Strawberry Shortcake
The babysitters club
Care Bears
Teddy Ruxbin (I still have mine)
Neon colors :rolleyes1
Banana clips in your hair
"tails" for guys hair

oh, the good old days

What about the show JEM! I know they were rock stars with some secret powers and they ran an orphange for girls! I loved that show! Very 80's!

~I still play my original Simon.
~I lived for the original Fisher Price Little People from the 70's. I have my schoolhouse, playground, regular house, school buses and airplane.
~There was a show on Nickelodeon that I forget the name of but I loved it - Alanis Morrisette (sp?) was on it. It was the first show they did the slime thing on.
~I loved the show Double Dare. I dreamed of going on that one
~Sports Illustrated Football game and Hardy Boys game are both in the top of my closet (I am a pack rat)
~Does anyone else remember Emmit Otter and the Jug Band? DH has never heard of the show but I remember watching the Christmas show ever year.

How funny my DD found one of my MIL's banana clips and is wearing right now...

I still have my Atari and Teddy Ruxpin... no jellys though they made my feet sweat.

Oooo! Anyone remember the octopus that stuck to the wall when you throw it, then climbed down. I think you could get them from Happy Meals. What were those things called?

ETA: I think they were called Wacky Wall Walkers.

I loved Emmit Otter! I had the VHS of that movie, but no more VCR.

Toys:
*Kiddles
*Drowsy
*Mrs. Beasley

Memories:
*Friday Fright Night with Seymour (your host)
*Getting something from the Ice Cream Man truck that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
*Actually playing outside for hours and hours without making your parents worried sick. We used to roller skate around the block, bicycle around the block with a rope tied around a Little Red Wagon filled with water and 2 or 3 kids inside.

Fisher Price "People" play sets. The old style GOOD ones, not the new ones they have. And while we're at it, Weebles (Weebles wabble but they don't fall down!)

I used to have the Fisher Price Farm. The door made a cow moo sound when you opened it. The new farm made by FP is plastic. Boo!

The show on Nick was You can't do that on Television, & I have the Emmit Otter jug band dvd. I know where you can download the soundtrack too:D
