Blast from the past: rec.arts.disney.parks

So, were you a member of rec.arts.disney.parks on Usenet? I was back in the day, before I joined the DIS. Many, if not most, internet service providers have dropped Usenet access from their services, mainly because of the rampant piracy and pornography, not to mention the added expense.

Well, Google has a Groups section and a lot of the groups are usenet groups, and rec.arts.disney.parks is still going strong.

They have over 123,000 posts archived on Google. I did a search and my last post there was in 2001. I used JCJRSmith as my handle there.

So, were YOU on R.A.D.P as it was known? What was your handle? Do you still read it?

I was there briefly, but I really started at that site , can't remember it but you had to buy the book, and then the butler let you in....she went wacky at the end ? Got the FBI involved?

The other site I started at was Analirahs?

I think I remember that site but stopped reading before the end. Sounds like things went a little crazy. What I remember was a lot of drama over some gentleman (maybe a dentist?) leading a group who tried to lock up all of the Cinderella breakfast reservations at the castle. They would then release them to people who contacted them. I wonder if this is still going on.

I don't think he was a dentist. He was a veterinarian. Started some group called Howies Angels. They would all set their alarm clocks for early in the mornings and call to lock up ressies for a so so breakfast.

RADP is where I first heard about Passporter in like1998. Some of those people were kinda crazy, but I did read one of the funniest things there.... They were talking about the old Universe of Energy at WDW and how boring it was, and one lady quoted...... "Shale. The rock that burns.".

Hahahaha! Now that's a blast from the past! I remember everyone being so up in arms about that! Isn't it one of the reasons that Disney went to the credit card with booking policy for CRT?

I remember the AOL boards...found them sometime in 1993. I also remember that one of the boards was hosted by a couple that lived in a sailboat and had written a book about WDW (WDW for lovers? maybe) and then something happened and they got stalked or something

I also remember the boards where you went in the lobby and there were other rooms and a butler...like a game of clue....

those websites helped us learn all the good stuff for our 2nd ever trip and learned about staying onsite, HDD, making Priority Seatings (remember talking to the people on the monitor at the front of Epcot, and all the things that made our trips great from then on....

Yep used to go there before the DIS and other boards came about. It was kinda like the wild west there.

There was a guy who posted as PaulT, or something like that, that used to stir up trouble.
