I have been on WW for about a week. Everything I have cooked is way bland. My husband and I are having a hard time liking the diet because of this. We are used to spicy foods (mexican, indian and such). I have made dinner evey night from recipes for WW and they are just soooo bland. What are some good ways to spice stuff up without adding points? Also has anyone noticed how many recipes call for onions and tomatoes?

Help please.

One thing that's helped me lately because of its lack of carbs is good old Tobasco! Gives anything a great kick! Not sure of its point value though.....Good luck!

Reeddi,

Come to my house and I will spice things up for you!! I don't cook any differently that I did before. I try new recipes, but we eat everything we did before.

I have some great recipes. I have a very low point, spicy chilli, tortilla soup (this kills me sometimes, lol).

My Dh makes homemade salsa with habenaros and jalapenos. I add that to the quesadillas, and lots of other foods.

I use a seasoning called SPIKE. It does have sea salts in it, so if you haev to stay away from salts don't use it. It really adds great flavor to chicken, pork etc.

Try to go back to some of your favorite recipes and break down the points. You would be surprised at what you can eat.

Add pepper till your hearts content.

I eat mexican food all the time. I made great low fat taco's the other day. I even make my own taco seasoning from various spices. I add green peppers, and you could even add jalapeno's or taco sauce to them.

Give it a try. Try eating the way you eat before, just watch your portions, cut down on the oil used to prepare them. You can do it! Let me know if you need some help converting some recipes.

I would love to have the chili recipe and low-fat taco. Where do you get SPIKE? I will have to look at what I did before.
I don't really like a pepper taste but a bold taste.

Have you ever checked out Cooking Light Magazine?
Their recipes are great and full of flavor. I din't know how well they translate to WW, but you could talk to your leader about that. I agree that many WW recipes are a bit lacklustre. I think part of the success of the Cooking light recipes is the fact that they are so heavily seasoned. Not salted, but good and spicey. Lots of curry dishes, mexican, cajun, carribean. I just love their stuff. In fact, I'm making a Black Bean and Chorizo Chili as I sit here! I got it off of their website! Yummy! Also, I must say, My DH is a very picky eater, and he loves their stuff, too. He is type II diabetic and after trying the ADA's recipes, he dove into these and has never looked back.

Keep the Faith!

dizneegirl - thanks for those links - i love finding new WW sites for recipes with pts already figured :)

reedi - I too have been able to find recipes that have good flavor -I like lots of flavor and not bland too. On the healthy eating board I posted one from dotti's site for Southwestern Chicken Stew that can be as spicy as you like to buy your salsa :)

I just bought "Ultimate Seasonings" from Tastefully Simple which is a home-party type business, like Pampered chef. I have sprinkled it on chicken breasts directly and baked for a good flavor. Try searching online for recipes for rubs, knock-offs for Emerils essences, etc and make your own seasonings to try? we like the knock-off Emeril essences rubbed on pork and baked or grilled.

Do you marinate? FF italian dressing is a great marinade?

just some random thoughts - hope they are helpful!
