Blackfish is having an impact!

As of today, SeaWorld's stock prices have dropped 22% since Blackfish's theatrical release!

I just want to say, with the exception of a couple of people on here, ya'll are a bunch of great people, and very intelligent and compassionate and genuinely care about the well being of orcas. I can only pray that more and more people learn about their terrible plight and also have the same compassion and we can all work together to put an end to orca (and other cetatean) display. I am committed more than ever, to spread the word and educate people. I live in Houston, and because there isn't a whole lot to do here, a lot of people head out to San Antonio a few hours down the road because there are numerous attractions out there, including Sea World. The best I can do is encourage them to watch "Blackfish" and other films that focus on orcas and how bad captivity is for them. I know our family will be back to San Antonio, but Seaworld will never be on our itinerary again!

So people who think differently to you are not "very intelligent"?

Your point probably would have been better taken without insulting the posters that think/believe differently than you.

The only hole in this scenario is the one your head is stuck in. Unfortunately, I can't be more specific on the DIS.

It shocks and saddens me that there are people in this world who haven't evolved enough to understand how hurtful it is to have orcas, dolphins, and other very intelligent, self aware animals kept in a jail like facility to be used and abused just for their "entertainment". It's just sick sick sick. Hopefully, the future generations of the ignorant masses will learn from the mistakes of their predecessors.

It's not an insult to voice your opinion. She is saddened by people that find it entertaining to watch beautiful animals that belong in the sea being kept captive in a cement tank.

Take it how you want to, but what I was saying is that I enjoy "talking" with the majority of people on here, kind of like a shout out to those who I feel I am on par with. Just because you are not part of the group that I was complimenting, doesn't mean I was insulting you. Just because somebody is not compassionate (about orcas) doesn't mean they are not intelligent.

To clarify.....I just want to say, with the exception of a couple of people on here, ya'll are a bunch of great people, and then I added, that in addition, I feel that they are very intelligent . never did I say that the people who I disagree with are not intelligent. Go back and read some of the posts by most of the people on the boards...they are very well written, and I was complimenting them. If I wanted to insult people I would just come out and said, With the exception of a couple of dumb people on here, which I did not say. Just because I wasn't complimenting you, don't get your panties (or whitie tighties) in a wad.

Ginger,

Thanks for sharing the link to that poster. Even though I am aware of all of those deaths, it still makes a huge impact and needs to be seen by everyone just for people to see just how many orcas have died needlessly in the hands of SeaWorld. Kandu V is one I remember vividly, as I was a freshman in High School, and living in California when this incident happened, and it really saddened me. Being young, and not knowing nearly what we all know now, I was planning on being a marine mammal trainer, but this event starting planting seeds of doubt in my mind.

As for Gudrun, I read about her case, and when she was pregnant with the baby who ended up being stillborn, which caused her to ultimately suffer and die, they used to make her pose on those slide-outs during the shows because she was physically the prettiest orca of the bunch. All this un-natural posing most likely caused the fetus to be crushed from all of the pressure, being out of the water, and caused it to die in utero.

For those who still think SW is great and love seeing the shows, think about that scenario. 2 orcas had to die, with one having to suffer over the period of a couple of days because they needed a pretty orca for people to gawk over. SENSELESS. At least her suffering is over, and let her rest in peace.

Telling someone they have their "head in a hole" sounds insulting to me. Not to you?

Yep! There have been a couple of folks who just posted to stir the pot . . . Now they repeat that.

Very true. I'm sure boards like these serve as entertainment for certain people, just as watching orcas perform stupid tricks serve as entertainment for some people. Different strokes for different folks.

And I guess I need to add....this statement is not meant to be an insult to those who find online forums to be entertaining, we all have our things......

In "feel good" news, did you happen to see the youtube videos of the fishermen in Alaska that helped the young orca or had gotten stuck on the rocks? It is fantastic. People like the fishermen give me hope for the human race.

It was nice to have tears of joy instead of tears of sadness...

I did catch that video the other night! I loved that. Wild orcas are intelligent enough to know that the men were helping their buddy, so they didn't try to interfere or attack. I would love to have been able to have an opportunity to help save an animal I feel so passionate about.

I belong to several Facebook groups that are all about orcas, so that is how I found that. There is also one called Orca Network that posts about all the different sightings of the resident pods in the Pacific Northwest area. Even though I am in Texas, I still love following it! I also follow the Free Lolita group, the Russian Orca group (who is against the recent wild orca captures in Russia), the Free Tilikum group, as well as a few others. I like to know about everything that is going on having to do with our black and white friends.
