Black Friday Rumors

Few random things. :)

1) Most movie theaters are open on Christmas and Thanksgiving. Regarding Christmas, they're open to accommodate those who don't celebrate Christmas.

2) Radio stations operate, but on a skeleton crew (maybe a tape technician). Everything is pre-recorded and you'll hear the same loop of Christmas music, memories and commercials every two to three hours.

3) Same with cable TV stations. That's one reason why you get 24 hours of "A Christmas Story" on TBS every year.

4) Regarding those who shop on Thanksgiving rather than Friday. Remember, Black Friday is not a holiday. There are many 9 to 5ers who are not off on Black Friday. In fact, none of us in my family have the Friday holiday. I have enough seniority in my office so I can take both Black Friday and the Friday after Christmas off (we are going away for Christmas). My DH and DD can take either Black Friday or the day after Christmas off, but not both. My DSIL does not have enough seniority to take Black Friday off. My DGD is in kindergarten, so no more day care. So guess who's looking after DGD, missing out on all the BF sales? At least I have a few hours on Thursday and a very few hours on Friday morning (before 7 AM).

Ads should be coming soon! Looking for a wii u, ipad of some sort, a roomba, and not sure what else.....

I "need" a 70 inch TV. That 60 inch just isn't big enough. :happytv:

We built a new house and once we moved in, realized the living room was much bigger than we had thought. A bigger TV would really be helpful, as our eyes are not getting any younger. We can go up to 70 inches and not have to move the speakers. So 70 it is. We can move the 60 inch TV up to the game room. DD needs a TV up there anyway.

The catch is, I want one CHEAP. Not asking much, am I? :rotfl2:

-I like how you stated everything. I've worked Thanksgiving Day both in retail and as a newspaper district manager(biggest sales day of the year). Now I've jumped careers, I still have to work Black Friday. I do get Thanksgiving Day off. Since we can't be off Friday, we'll shop Thursday night. We have no other family around and consider it no big deal to shop on thanksgiving since I've worked it since 1990. Basically, if you don't want to work holidays, get into a line of business that isn't open holidays.

Anyone remember the DisneyStore.com BF deals from years past??? Trying to get a guess on what to expect for this year and whether I should just grab what I need with the 15/20/25% sale they have going on right now.

I work in TV Traffic and the Traffic people still have to work, especially the on air guys. It cannot be pre recorded.

Agreed about the radio stations, the skeleton crew is pissed but they do have to come in.

That's why I said cable, and not OTA stations. And I understand some cable stations still have a full crew going. Mostly your all-news and sports stations.

I haven't heard any rumors yet. I will be on the lookout for a Keurig deal and it would be awesome to get a deal on Disney park hoppers LOL. We will not go out Thursday at all and we actually take our time waking up Friday morning and go around 9am. Last year it was empty in the stores at that time and we found some great deals at Target on toys, scooters and a fire pit and then on a Lenovo tablet at Staples. I try to check the ads out in advance so I know what I'm looking for and I don't attempt the doorbusters :)

I want to say it was 20% off everything in the store. They should have their friends and family coming up here soon which is 25% off - you don't need a coupon to order online, just the code.

just a thought on the Keurig deal.... if you sign up for emails from Bed Bath and Beyond, you will get 20% off coupons like 3 times a week in email. (they seriously flood your email) But last year I got a Keurig for $ 99 and then used the 20% off coupon. In addition, Keurig was running a rebate offer for $ 20 (or $ 25, I can't remember) back when you purchased the Keurig and submitted the rebate form. So all in all it was $79 then I got back $ 25 rebate. This was for the regular Keurig (not the mini). It was a good deal......

Ok so I just read through 5 pages of bashing shopping on Thanksgiving and Black Friday to find about 5 posts about actual deal talking. I really want to start seeing some ads!!!!

OP could you try again with another thread and re-name this thread to STOP HERE IF YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING! Geez Louise!

Working on Holidays is all a nature of the beast for a lot of jobs. We who have these jobs all know how it goes so no need to complain. That includes non essential jobs like retail. If you don't like it quit!

I work both retail PT @ Best Buy and FT for NYS Dept of Corrections. The way I see it, between those 2 I will never see a Holiday for many years to come....But I knew this going in!

BTW, I absolutely love working BF @ Best Buy! So much fun dealing with crazy mobs of people who don't realize that half of the deals actually aren;t that good. Its quite funny!

I love working Black Friday at Best Buy too. It was funny seeing all the people fighting.

After working at Finley Stadium where had sold out game on Black Friday. That was 20,000 plus people.

I have learn to celebrated holiday on a different day.

I am looking for cheap tracfones phones, 29.99 tablet, smart led tv and coffee maker.

So, is THIS the official Black Friday thread? I want to make sure I don't miss any deals!

I can understand your excitement but as the mother of an 18 year old who works retail and now has to be to work at 6:30 on Thanksgiving I am less than pleased.

There is nothing to me that is worth it or more important than time with family on a national holiday. She is not a member of any essential service so it bothers me that she HAS to go into work and will be there overnight so that people can get deals that will not be nearly as good as the ones her store is currently offering..

I hear you! My sone is 18 and in college. he has a job at PacSun where he I lucky to get one- two days a week. Yet, he has to work all day on Thanksgiving. NO deal is that important. Makes me sad. I love to shop on Black Friday, but I won't shop on Thanksgiving.

Do you have a "Dollar General" near you ? I was SHOCKED to pick up the flyer when I entered one near me and the Tracfone was on sale for $5.00 Yes you read that right and came with 10 minutes.

The only problem I had was I couldn't get a signal where I live. It didn't make any sense to me as my husband has one and crystal clear. I called them and we figured out that I needed a different SIM card as it was set to one tower and I needed to be set to another. Sent a new card and no problems :goodvibes

I second that. Could we please have a thread for complaining, and a thread about actual BF deals and ads??
