Black Friday Camcorders?

Has anyone checked out the selection of camcorders in the BF ads? I know nothing about these things, but I want one for Xmas to take on our trip in Jan. I've found a Panasonic Palmcorder, a Canon, a few JVCs...but I can't even figure out the differences to know what's a good deal!

So what should I look for? What exactly does "digital" mean? I'm looking for something relatively inexpensive, but I'd like to be able to get videos to my computer and save them to DVDs.

I would check out gottadeal.com. They have a thread just on the BF camcorder sales. They also have an entire disussion about the pro's and con's of the ones on sale.

Circuit City has a miniDV camcorder for $199.
I don't know a lot about this format- I know you can transfer the footage to your computer - then edit and transfer them to a DVD format and burn them to DVDs (if you have a DVD burner) but I think you need a lot of memory and disc space to that.

I love digital photography and I want to get a digital camcorder but I need to get educated about it before I make a purchase- and I don't think that is going to happen before Friday-

Anyone who can shed light on the various forms of digital/DVD movie cams- it would be greatly appreciated.
