We always have blackeyed peas on New Years Day for good luck. Anyone else? I made rice, cornbread, porkchops and apples, too. Yummy!!!

I just finished a big plate of corn muffins, black eyed peas and turnip greens, both of which were cooked with Clifty Farms ham. I am stuffed, but God, it was good. I love southern style meals like that. I just rarely make them because it takes all day to do it right. Maggie

Any day I do NOT eat black-eyed peas is a lucky day for me. Please, enjoy my serving.;)

We had black-eyed peas with dinner tonight. My dh was surprised a northern girl like me would remember.

Wish I had black eyed peas for new years. But that Fergie can be annoying.

We also have cabbage which is suppose to bring money. I have been waiting all these years and still waiting for it to arrive.

My ex MIL gave me a whole deal about how I needed to eat black eyed peas for good luck on New Year's Day. My response, "I've seen the year you had. I'll pass, thanks."

Yep, and they were delicious!!!

Yes and I loved every bite. May they make the year a happy one. :)

Black eyed peas, ham hocks, vegetables, corn bread and apple pie. Mmmmm...

Hog Jowl, Black eyed peas, Greens, and Corn Bread!!!!

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM mixing the corn bread and the black eyed peas together was the best part!

had my hog jowl, black eye peas and ribs!! Yum!! Here's hoping for good luck and wealth in 2007.

I had black eyed peas (I was very proud of myself for cooking them from scratch using hog jowls and onion), green bean casserole and macaroni and cheese. My family's tradition has always been black eyed peas, collards, and corn bread, but I hate corn bread and collards, and my Aussie husband doesn't love black eyed peas (and hates cabbage, which I love), so we kind of compromised. ;)

I have only had black eyed peas once in my life...when I visited my grandma in Durham, NC many years ago. So, I have obviously not heard of this "good luck tradition". I have never heard of hog jowls and am not even sure what collards are:confused3 But I do love cornbread!:yay:

We had boneless skinless chicken on the BBQ with baked beans with lettuce and tomato. Seems boring compared to you guys.

We HAVE to have black eyed peas and cabbage on New Year's Day!
They were delish, too!!

Did the jowl have a tooth in it? :rotfl2:
My Granddaddy used to say that the tooth brought the best luck but I must admit I've only once seen a pigs jowl on head at the butcher and never a jowl with a tooth in it!

We had hoppin' john with cornbread. DD loved the hoppin' john so much, she had 2 and 1/2 bowls! I don't know where she puts it, she's only 9 years old but she eats like she's training for football!
