Black Elsa @ Disneyland ?

Pretty sure the story is based on the Hans Christen Anderson story of the Snow Queen.

I'd say she's potentially Norweigian (hence the EPCOT issue in taking over the pavilion)
I thought that was pretty well accepted by now?

ETA: I also thought it was accepted that just because you're Norweigian, didn't mean you couldn't be black?
Shucks.... I am totally in your corner on that, as I'm totally unfamiliar!!!

My whole point was if Elsa started out white, she should remain white. If she started out black, she should remain black.
It should never be changed due to some silly politically correct thing.

I'm the furthest thing from PC, but I also believe that it shouldn't matter what colour her skin is, historical or not.
It's a fairytale, not a reenactment of WWII

Yeah... I'm German an Italian but look white.

I figured most would understand without getting politically correct.

I don't understand this anymore. You are German and Italian, but from Orlando. That means you are American. Maybe your parents or grandparents were German and Italian, but you're not. Unless you vote in Germany and reside in Germany you are not German. If you have a US passport, guess where you are from. People die trying to get to this country, people die defending this country, but citizens from this country could care less about what it means to be an American.

Now to really blow your mind, trace your family history, and all of mankinds, all the way back to the start. We all came from Africa, which means we are all black.

We finally have reached the point where people can marry each other regardless of gender. We as a nation have grown. Look at @DisneyKevin and how life would be with closed minded people in control. But no, blame the black playing Elsa or the Jew playing Mustafa, or the guy in drag playing Snow White. Small minded people make me think hard about this country and the people that scurry around it.

I still don't understand what you're trying to say.

It's a fairytale, it doesn't matter what colour her skin is.

If someone went and changed Obama's heritage/skin colour in 100 years when re-enacting his story, THAT would be an outrage.

We're talking about a made up character... She could be green for all it matters

I am so excited to hear this. I love color blind casting! For me, unless it is a historical show, then I am all for color blind casting. I am looking forward to watching this. This isn't the first time they have done this in one of their shows. I think just the first time in the park. On Broadway there has been at least one non white actresses to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Not sure what to say here.... I'm not going to get political on disboards, but will always debate via pm.
As I've said before, seeing as it's obvious where this may lead, this is my last post on the subject. Feel free to PM me

I am sure the actress would love to play Elphaba if it meant going green.

PM is not what I do, I prefer to talk in public or at least where others can see and not hide.

The Snow Queen is Swedish.
Anna is evil and kills lots of people.
Elsa is, let's say assaulted in a carnal manner
Disney made the story pretty and white washed it
Black people live in Sweden

Going by the Hans Christian Anderson account, The Snow Queen is from Svalbard. Currently it is apart of Norway, but at the time of HCA writing the story, it was not recognized as soverign to any one state. There were American, Russian, Dutch, British, Danish and Norwegian interests. So it is still opaque.

Now as for someone that is Norwegian. Sometimes I find it is hard for Americans/Canadians/Australians to understand that the countries of Europe are nation-states. In that they are, with some exceptions, states encompassing a single or majority ethnic group. Norwegians are an ethnicity. That ethnicity is apart of the Caucasian group. Someone doesn't become Norwegian by living there in the same way someone could become 'Australian' by moving to Australia. Just like moving to Thailand and living there doesn't make you Thai. They become a 'citizen' of Norway. Norway has two indigenous nationalities. Norwegians and Sami.

How can you whitewash a story that features only white characters?

My apologies on my ignorance of the way the EU works, I admit, I'm not well versed (or versed at all tbh) in that.
However, if you are a citizen of a country, in my opinion, you're that nationality.
If you weren't born in Australia, you probably aren't Australian, unless you've moved here, become a citizen and adopted the way of life etc.

Regardless, a black person can be born Norweigian and be Norweigian correct?

Well they took out the murder and the carnal parts. Whitewash doesn't mean they just made everyone white. It means they covered up the parts of the story they didn't want to use and I can't even believe I need to explain this

It can be a little semantic, but it also depends on the context. Look at Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is Swedish. But he is ethnically Bosniak and Croat. In the context of the story, the character could be assumed to be 'Norwegian' as an ethnicity, not as a nationality.

Whereas if this was say a modern play/poem/book set in modern Norway, than casting directors could very easily select black, SEA or E-Asian people to represent characters because they do have those communities there.

But in general, we live in a world were Heimdall is black, Alexander Hamilton is Puerto Rican and so many others that it doesn't really matter. And I think on stage it matters even less because of the talent and rigors involved. Plus Elsa was voiced by an Eastern European Jew. So.......

Don't you be all hating on the green people.

Did all of the actors/actresses have to pass those "what number do you see" tests to get their parts?

I found out after I met Mickey that he's not even a mouse. I mean, I knew it wouldn't be the REAL Mickey (even though he talked to me and his voice was spot on), but to find out this "friend of Mickey" wasn't even the right species?!? Come on Disney!

Just watched New Disneyland frozen musical and Elsa is black

As much as I tried to enjoy this show it seemed weird

How do guys feel about this?

Craig had mentioned it on the show

The best theatre performance of Fiddler on the Roof that I ever saw (about 30 years ago, btw) featured a black actor as Tevye (the family patriarch). He was awesome, and so was the show. If this black Elsa gave a great performance, I'd enjoy it a lot more than a less-skilled white girl playing Elsa.

Competance before color. In Frozen, Elsa's skin color is not relevant to the story.
