Blabbermouth & DH's Feeding Frenzy TRIP REPORT - Final Update 9/21

Okay, I've got my still warm out of the oven peanut butter banana muffin and a cup of tea, and I'm ready for my next installment.

We slept like babies this night in our hotel room and were up at 8 to make it for the 9 am opening at DL. Obviously, true to our form, we didn't make it there quite in time, but I wasn't worried, this just meant we could walk right in and not stand around waiting in line!

Jason wanted a cup of coffee from out hotel continental breakfast before we left, so he got one:

IMG_0806.jpg

It wasn't very good, but he's not picky. I chowed down a little danish and took a self portrait while I waited and he took his sweet time.

IMG_0807.jpg

As I said, we walked right in and down main street, it was still pretty quiet at this time (9:10). Jason wanted to go on Pirates, but first we headed into Tomorrowland for a Star Tours Fastpass. This had a return time of 11:00 am already. Then we ditched back and went past the soon to be Mary Poppins Bakery and the really pretty tulip tree (which you can't really see very clearly because I uploaded my photos too small).

IMG_0808.jpg

And then we entered

IMG_0809.jpg

IMG_0810.jpg

More cool themed lights:
IMG_0811.jpg

I talked him into riding Indiana Jones first! We walked right on, only even watched half of the video.

IMG_0812.jpg

IMG_0813.jpg

IMG_0814.jpg

Here we are after we boarded the half empty ride car, can't you tell we're on Indy?
IMG_0815.jpg

Another exciting trip where we made it out safe! (No breakdowns or anything!) Exited the ride along side the Jungle Cruise, I'm always in awe of the amazing landscaping at DL and DCA. It's always so lush and beautiful! And it makes for great shade, which we needed as it was 33 degrees this day.

IMG_0816.jpg

We actually just watched the second Indy movie last night, I forgot how great they are, and how young Harrison Ford once looked.

original.jpg

Anyway, after this we rounded the bend past the closed Tarzan's Treehouse (we went on this last time, so no biggie), peered out at the Island

IMG_0817.jpg

and made it to

IMG_0818.jpg

once again, walked on this ride, that's what my photo of the fountain is so blurry, I didn't stop to take it!

IMG_0819.jpg

Such a fun ride, always see new things that you've never seen before. After this we headed over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, one of my favorites! This took a bit of a longer wait (hmm, ten minutes?) as they were adding a second train and so they had to move things around a bit.

IMG_0820.jpg

IMG_0821.jpg

After this ride, it was breakfast time (10:15) so we headed back to main street to eat at Carnation Cafe. I was in shock as Oscar himself greeted us and took us to our table! He was so cute going around visiting with all the kids, giving out buttons etc. I'm glad I got to see him before he retires!

I love the decor, fresh flowers are so nice.

IMG_0823.jpg

IMG_0824.jpg

We both ordered iced coffees, it was HOT already this morning.

IMG_0825.jpg

Jason ordered Oscar's Special Breakfast, and smothered it in ketchup.

IMG_0826.jpg

And I had the Croissant Sandwich with fresh fruit.

IMG_0827.jpg

We both enjoyed our meals. The grapes were so delicious and fresh. I found my croissantwich to be a bit dry, it needed some mayo or sauce or something, but Jason ate every bite of his.

I would give this meal a rating of
img-thing.jpeg
Minnie.

The setting is so nice and relaxing, you really don't feel like you're in the middle of main street. The prices are good, it's very cool to see Oscar (such a legend!) and our meals were hot and of good quality. Next time I will get the Apple Pancakes, like I should have in the first place!

Ok, that's the update for today, I will get on with the rest of our first day soon. Thanks for reading!

Enjoying reading your trip report! Great job on the scrapbook.:thumbsup2 I'm still working on mine from 2006 and haven't even started 2007 and 2010. For some reason I seem to be stuck. Looking forward to reading the rest of your report.

I just read your trip report from beginning to end. I love your rating system and may very well steal it for my trip report. I don't know how I missed this but I am in now!!

Your pics are great, making me so homesick (cause we all know Disneyland is our "other home" right? :rotfl:)

Carnation Cafe meals...drool, i love that place. Its dinner time here is Australia and i now feel like bacon, eggs & croissants...

Thanks! The only thing I scrapbook is our vacations, and we don't get that many, so I don't get too far behind! I find the best way to do a bunch of pages quickly is to buy the big book of coordinating paper and some decorative punch out additions, then everything goes together without thinking about it.

Welcome, thanks for reading! Yes, the rating system is a fun addition, although it seems like some of my photos aren't always working, hmm :confused3

Aww, homesick, sorry!! You'll be there soon though I see.

Breakfast for dinner, can't go wrong with that!

Our tummies very full, we decided we better not go to Star Tours 3D quite yet, but we did head in that direction. So we stopped in to help this guy

IMG_0830.jpg

defeat the evil emperor Zurg!

We love this game, just as fun as Toy Story Midway Mania with little to no wait, every time!

IMG_0829.jpg

This was our first game, Jason beat me every time, but we both got better by the fourth ride of our trip.

IMG_0834.jpg

And then we were ready for the new and improved ST! This ride is so awesome. I don't know much about Star Wars  but we got quite a few different combinations on the three times we rode it.

IMG_0838.jpg

IMG_0839.jpg

IMG_0840.jpg

These glasses are hilarious, they make you look like you have mannequin eyes! Creepy!

The standby wait was the highest we saw it the whole trip, a mere 45 minutes. We picked up a FP for Space Mountain, with a very short return time.

Then we headed to...

IMG_0841.jpg

any guesses???

.
.
.
Fantasyland and the Teacups!

IMG_0842.jpg

And some more lights of course.

IMG_0843.jpg

IMG_0845.jpg

Monstro, just chillin' as he does so well.

IMG_0844.jpg

We didn't make it to Storybookland Canal Boats this trip, or Peter Pan :( When all the waits are really short, 25-30 minutes seems too long for these lil rides.

Here's my apparently expressionless DH, is he having fun? It's a mystery!

IMG_0847.jpg

From here we visited the Wild Mr Toad:

IMG_0851.jpg

IMG_0849.jpg

IMG_0850.jpg

IMG_0852.jpg

The line for this ride is so cute!

The man, err, amphibian himself:
IMG_0856.jpg

The cute, but blurry frog lamp
IMG_0857.jpg

We then went on Pinocchio because the Snow White line actually snaked outside of the building!

IMG_0860.jpg

Continued in the next post...

...Continued.

And then Snow White's line was better

IMG_0862.jpg

Some of these rides are pretty freaky considering they're the kiddie rides! I'm really surprised there aren't MORE crying children at DL!
IMG_0863.jpg

IMG_0864.jpg

I grabbed these cute pics from the top of Dumbo while we waited for Mr Toad earlier:

IMG_0853.jpg

IMG_0854.jpg

We were getting pretty hot by this time, a lot of those lines were short and inside, but not air conditioned!

I had been talking up the Cherry Coke to DH for a few weeks, so we decided it was time (for the first of our trip) and we headed over to Coke Corner.

IMG_0865.jpg

This cherry coke and jalapeno cream cheese pretzel were delicious! They get a

Mickey!

The cherry coke, which we can't actually buy in stores in Canada (around here at least) was nice and refreshing, not too sweet. The pretzel was just the right amount of chewy, spicy and lightly cheesy. We probably could have this snack every day.

After this little break we decided to head back to the hotel for awhile, but not before getting soaked on Splash. We walked to it through Adventureland and decided to take a ride on Jungle Cruise. We had a great skipper, Stephanie Grace and we got to sit at the front so we could actually hear everything she said! I guess I was worried about getting my camera wet because I don't have any photos of our voyage and our time in line was too short for pics.

By the time we got over to Splash it was about twenty after one and it was PACKED! There was a 35 minute wait (I assume due to the extreme heat!) and we didn't want to wait in the line that was routed through direct sun.

We wandered back towards the gates and decided to hop on the train

IMG_0866.jpg

IMG_0867.jpg

This was a relaxing way for us to get over to Tomorrowland.

We used our Space FP. And apparently didn't take any photos. This ride always scares me, I think it's because you really get the feeling that you're on a skinny little track with absolutely NO edges!

After our ride, we headed to the monorail to DTD to go through the GC to get back to our hotel. *Phew*!

IMG_0868.jpg

DH was impressed by the efficiency of the electric motor.

IMG_0869.jpg

IMG_0869.jpg

I was impressed by the soothing air conditioning, music, low lighting and quiet of the GC lobby! Well, DH liked this too. I think I sat and relaxed in here while he went to find a potty... which was also soothing and beautiful, haha.

Ok, I will end here for today. Next update is DCA, Ariel's Grotto and World of Color!

Nothing like a nice air conditioned lobby to relax in and I can think of no better one than the GCH for that.

Great trip report.

I noticed your DH was wearing an Oakland A's hat. Sorry if I'm overlooking the connection, but curious how he became a fan. I was born near Oakland and come from a family of A's fans.

Yup, it's just lovely! And I'm sure the fireplace is awesome in the winter.

No connection, just always has been! He liked Jose Conseco and Mark McGuire. On our last trip to Cali the only city we were in that had a home game was Oakland, so we went and had a great time :) Thanks for reading!

I have seen people talking about drinking hot chocolate in front of it during the winter. That sound just amazing to me.

Alright, so after we hung out at the pool for awhile and relaxed in our room and watched some more lame comedies and some amazing Taco Bell (we don't have it around here, ok?), we were ready to head back to DCA at about 6:15 for our dinner reservation!

Jason wanted to go on Screamin', but I was feeling all relaxed after our lazy afternoon and didn't want to be shocked away! No, I wasn't chicken, OK? There's a new joke from the beach wedding we went to: "I'm NOT crying, I just have sand in my eye!"

As we walked towards the pier from the GC entrance I saw the new Ariel's Adventure ride, with only a '5 minute wait' aka, walk on! I love the new building and the tile work, so beautiful with the shells in it and the cute mosaic borders. Didn't have my camera out, so no pics. This ride was cute, nothing overly exciting, but it's from my era of Disney movies, so I knew all the music etc. so it was nostalgic for me :lovestruc

That was over quick! We went to check the line for Toy Story, but it was a bit long for before dinner. So we walked over to Mickey's Fun Wheel and got in the non-death line for the stationary seats. We picked the perfect time, sunset! I was surprised how windy it was at the top though. We encountered a really funny CM here, always nice to see them having a good time. He used the "hey, don't forget your seatbelts!" line. Umm, there are none?!?!

After that Jason wanted to try a boardwalk game, so he went for the baseball toss. And..... didn't win. But we did see a woman earlier that day in DTD with the giant wiener dog over her shoulder, it was so funny!

Our Ariel's Grotto reservation was at 7:20, so we waited about 30 seconds with our buzzer then went down the staircase. It was nice decor down there, I didn't take any photos though because it was somewhat dark and I didn't want to flash the whole room (Ha! Flash!) But I did get some food pics.

We decided on non-alcoholic drinks this time because it was already a fairly expensive meal. I like lemonade anyway!

So once we got our drinks they brought out the bread and three dips, the pesto was great! The sourdough bread was yummy on the top half, but a bit too hard/chewy on the bottom. But they gave us a HUGE loaf for two people so it wasn't much of a problem.

Pretty much immediately after the bread the appetizer tower arrived. We chose the meat and shellfish.

IMG_0873.jpg

Everything here was good. I've just started to like olives, so we fought over those. The chorizo and cheese were good. I find prosciutto a bit rich when it's not cooked, so I only nibbled at that. The seafood was fresh and well cooked, but the drizzled sauce was pretty tasteless, a red seafood sauce would have been better for me. The salad was good, but after all the appies we didn't have much room for it, the dressing was flavorful but light and we did pick at it a bit throughout our meals.

I ordered the Santa Maria Style Tri-Tip. It was served with cheddar mashed potatoes and sauteed zucchini squash. It had a peppercorn crust and was served with some pico de gallo, so it was fairly spicy between those two. But it was cooked to a perfect medium rare, very tender and delicious! I love it. And I forgot to take pics, but I'm sure there's some of the Food Pics thread.

Jason got the Cioppino: "A fragrant bowl of the ocean's finest, including lobster claw, pink scallops, redfish, green-lip mussels and shrimp, plus Bilbao chorizo bathed in a robust fire-roasted tomato broth" and it was served with (more) bread. He liked it, but due to the broth found it to be a bit smaller than he would have liked. The flavor was good though, and the seafood well cooked. He had a bit of my meal to help fill him up.

Then finally we got to dessert!

IMG_0874.jpg

This included counter clockwise from left: Crunchy chocolate triangle, Tiramisu in a chocolate cup, chocolate lava cake, green apple mousse, macaroons, passion fruit mousse and fresh berries and white chocolate film reel in the middle. (My memory isn't perfect here, so I might be wrong on a few of these!)

I found the chocolate desserts to be a bit rich, but liked the triangle the best. I LOVED the passion fruit one, the fruit was perfectly ripe and delicious and the macaroons were SO good, I ate them both!

When she brought the check she didn't bring the WOC FPs, so I asked and she brought them to us with our change.

(Note: I actually had looked at all ears before going and thought it was $36.99, but their menu wasn't quite accurate and it was actually $39.99, my fault, not researching enough!)

Oh, she brought us the 9pm FPs, not the 10:15 like I wanted. DH pipped up and said they were fine, it was only 8:15 and we had lots of time, plus, she said "they don't line up until 8:30". Well, I knew her statement wasn't what I had read, but not wanting to be a brat, I just sucked it up and accepted the 9pm show.

So to sum up, mediocre service, but pretty delicious food. A bit expensive, but plenty of food. We give it a....

img-thing.jpeg

We walked right over to the line and waited until about 8:35 to walk down to the preferred dining area. We ended up in about the third "row" in the front section behind some kids so we had a pretty unobstructed view.

Ok, this is where I should say: I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW WET WE GOT!!! Not sprinkled upon, not misted, not damp, WET. ALL OVER, HAIR DRIPPING WET! I guess I shoulda read the super-thread (?) But, it was still fantastic and we both loved it :lovestruc

We've never seen DL's Fantasmic, and I know that's the heated debate, but we liked this one and can't compare the two. We didn't take any photos, too busy watching, and also not wanting to ruin our camera!

We got this shot before the show started

IMG_0875.jpg

So easy to take pretty shots of the Fun Wheel!

After this we followed the wet masses out of the park thru the GC. It was nice when we stopped in front of the sliding doors to let a couple through on their scooters, they thanked us and said it was the first time something nice like that happened to them all day. Yay, we're nice :)

See? Told you I was feeling lazy by this time, not many pics, sorry!

__________

So let's sum up our first day: 13 rides in DL before 2 pm (including train and monorail), then we slacked and only rode two rides after 6 pm and saw one show. Well, I thought it was a productive day and it seemed like we rode tons of rides without waits :yay: And we had two Minnie meals and one Mickey snack.

Next up, a big breakfast and some DCA morning time.

Hello from Seattle, neighbor!

I'm enjoying your TR, thanks for sharing it. :)

Oh, I just started your trip report today and have just now realized it's not done! :sad2: Anyhow I have totally enjoyed it and all the pictures. You have a very fun entertaining way of writing. Can't wait for the next installment. We will be there Sept 26-30 although only getting in the parks three days. This is so fun to read as a mood setter. :thumbsup2

Sorry, not done yet, only a third of the way through! 3 days was great in the low season. There are a few things I would have liked to do, but didn't, but we took long breaks in the afternoons so we could have had the time if we wanted. Enjoy your trip!

Next installment is coming up now.

So after a good night's sleep we were up at 8 again to make it to Mickey's Surf's Up Character Buffet Breakfast and to DCA for opening.

IMG_0876.jpg

That guy's nose got in the way... he was totally oblivious to my photo taking!

IMG_0877.jpg

We actually had to wait a little while here for our 8:50 am reservation. I would think we didn't sit down until 9am. It was fine, but it was very hectic in the waiting area, the kids were all going nuts being able to look into the restaurant and see the characters! And we were still half asleep.

We declined the photo with Mickey to start because I didn't want to be pressured into buying the photo. The photopass photographer was super sweet though and told us that we could come back at any time during the meal if we decided we wanted one. I figured we'd grab one on our way out with our camera, but it didn't happen, Mickey was too busy dancing with the kiddies and Stitch, so cute!

IMG_0889.jpg

I love their outfits here :goodvibes

Ok, so first our server brought us coffee and a juice for Jason

IMG_0888.jpg

Complete with bendy straw, score!

Then I did a quick peer around to see if any characters were close, nope! So we headed up the buffet. There actually we're very many people at the restaurant, they weren't sitting anyone in the back room, so there was probably only 15-20 tables being used. It was nice, not too overwhelming.

Here's my first plate:
IMG_0878.jpg

From the left: Mickey waffle, blueberry muffin wedge, chilaquiles, cheese pizza, hashbrowns, bacon, chicken sausage, bagel with cream cheese, lox salmon, red onion and capers, fruit.

Jason's plate:
IMG_0879.jpg

We had almost nothing the same! He had (from left) canteloupe, regular sausages, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, egg white and spinach frittata, tomatoes and I think a croissant somewhere.

So, I LOVED the: chilaquiles, chicken sausages, mickey waffle and blueberry muffin. They are all delicious, flavorful and fresh. Cheese pizza was good, but it didn't "go" with breakfast for me, but would have been great for lunch.

Jason was happy with his food too and went back for a mickey waffle and a few other sweet items.

While we were eating, the characters came around. I love how well they can communicate without saying a word.

Stitch being stitchy. Later he came around again and tried to sneak up on Jason, just as he was about to tap him on the shoulder, J turned around and so Stitch took a step back and did a little 'oh hi, just walking by, minding my own business' wave. It was soooo funny.

IMG_0880.jpg

IMG_0881.jpg

IMG_0882.jpg

Minnie liked my ruffley sleeves, they were just like hers
IMG_0883.jpg

Then Pluto stopped by
IMG_0884.jpg

This was just a second before he 'licked' me, haha!

He really liked Jason
IMG_0885.jpg

IMG_0886.jpg

And Jason really liked him too.

It was a good amount of characters, not too many so that we couldn't eat, but it was cute to get some pics with characters here because we really didn't see very many in the parks. We also didn't see very many photopass photographers while we were there. They must really just stand to the side and ignore you if you're not looking for them!

So we got breakfast settled up by about 9:40.

I would rate this meal:
images

It was really good for a buffet, I like that it had some more unique and delicious offerings beyond bacon and eggs. Everything was very hot and fresh, which is hard to accomplish, and the characters were friendly and around just enough. And I would recommend it to anyone looking for a character breakfast, I know it's a bit less popular than others, but we thought it was perfect! The value is good at $26.99 per adult, although I don't think it's the best value all you can eat, which you will hear about later.
