BL 3 - Red Team week 8

hmm... the question of the day is hard for me. my screen name really means nothing to me. i have no idea how i thought of it?? i wanted something different, so i came up with it.

as for the weekly challenge, my favorite form of exercise is definitely pilates! unfortunately, i haven't been able to sit my butt down and do it, because when i'm home i just like to be home. when i'm at the gym, i'm at the gym and working out. our gym has the crappiest pilates teacher known to man. my friend and i took a class with her once and did not feel like we even exercised she went so fast with every pose! usually i like to do pilates to "pilates for weightloss" it's a fantastic video and really works you hard!!

i got tired of feeling sedentary and rejoined the gym. i feel guilty not going, because i paid a lot of money for it!! haha. i try to go as many times a week as i can, but when i have an exam, it just doesn't happen. i find that if i didn't join the gym that i would put off exercising and then i'd never do it (even though i'd say that i was going to that day). the gym has helped me get out of my house and move!

My screen name are my daughter's names. I have the same screen name for almost every website and that was already taken here so I started a new one.

My favorite form of exercise is running. This is a new passion as I used to hate running. Now I love it as it is a challenge, there is competition involved and it is my only time during the day that is "ME" time. I love my girls but I like to be alone sometimes.

My struggles have been having time to go running. Our marathon schedule is very time consuming and with 2 little ones in the house we basically take turns going running. I would love to run with my husband but would rather not pay for a babysitter everyday. Our jobs have been great about allowing us time to run as well.

my screen name has to do with my love for pirates.. which came from when I was little.. the only ride I remember clearly is going on POTC with my grandma and grandpa all the time.. it was the coolest.. and it was always a topic my granda would talk to me about ( that ride ) so now as an adult I still love anything to do with pirates.. but when I made my name I wanted it spelled a little differently so I used py instead of pi... ( hubby is my sexy pirate) lol..
anyways as to exercise I HATE ALL FORMS!! I guess this is my problem.. but I would have to say roller skating was my fav.. but I am to old to do that now.. lol so I would have to say the good ole treadmill...

Team numbers are flying through cyberspace. We will soon be conferring to finalize the week. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the responses today.

Agnes!, I know I am not capable of doing a sticky but I will check with OhMom and see what her thoughts are about that. Thanks for the suggestion. And I do know your real name is not Agnes.

iggbees (Kristin), I laughed about your screen name. Yours is one I have often wondered about. It is definitely something different and it will always make me smile now because I know it really has no deep secret meaning. Thanks for checking in even though I know you are busy at school. I know the gym membership can be a great motivator. Try to schedule a work out time and treat it like you would a class or an exam. Just do it, no excuses.

bridgetgabbie (Robin), Well I knew you were Robin, not Bridget or Gabbie. I'm glad I now know who they are. How old are your DDs? My DD26 has no children but she does have a cat named Gabbie. Her husband loves that cat and spoils it rotten. I keep trying to tell them that having a kid is so much more fun. I think they are considering starting their family. I would love some happy news by the end of the year, but I can be patient until the time is right for them.

What is your favorite screen name that was taken here? I have had to use dare2dream99 or whatever at some places. It just makes it convenient to have just one name to keep track of. I now keep a little notebook on my desk with login names and passwords to all the places I go online. DH keeps his stuff in his rolodex. I can't keep track of all that stuff.

Pyrateswife (Lisa), Ahoy matey! When DH and I went to DL in 05 one of the rides I really enjoyed was Pirates. It has gone through a refurb since then. I hope to someday get out there again to see the new one, or the one at WDW. A girl can dream. Are you a Johnny Depp fanatic, or it is just pirates? I do suppose Johnny pales in comparison to your own sexy pirate.

Thanks Red Team, Love ya, mean it.

Have a healthy day!

Congratulations Red Team, we are the weekly Team challenge winners!! Great job. Claim your clippie, you have earned it.

I am so proud of our team this week. We can do this. Let's keep working hard. I know we will eventually win a weigh in. I know we can win the team challenge if everyone really participates. What a great week, an extra 3 pounds would have been great, but that's OK. We are losing.

wooo cool! i made the top 5 weight losers this week?!?! woah. :cool1:

i've been trying to be good with going to the gym and i walk a lot around campus (just walking from my car to where i work is about 12-15 min!). i will definitely help rack up those points this week for the challenge, but i've really got to push myself to do 45 min of cardio (i usually do 30-35).

off to study for my exam which is at 7 pm...

Hi Red Team! So, for the question of the day...what does my screen name mean? It's basically I name I created and put NO creativity into it whatsoever! The diz is for disney and the chick is b/c I'm a girl! Not to interesting of an explanation, huh? :)

Anyways, for my challenge questions:

Share with your team in the team weekly thread what your favorite form of exercising is (biking, running, powerwalking, yoga, etc) and why?? -- max 5 pts
I actually have two! I really enjoy running. Most people I know hate it, but for some reason it's a form of exercise that I love. I've been running since high school when I competed on the cross country and track team. My other favorite form of exercise is workout videos. My two favorite at The Firm and Cathe. Both get me sweating and make me feel like I've really done something worthwhile. I don't really do cardio videos as much as the weight videos. I use running for my cardio.

# Share with your team in the team weekly thread what struggles you have overcome in making exercise a part of your routine? work schedules? burn-out? family responsbilities? Inspire others who face the same challenges! -- max 5 pts

Hmm...now I think my newest challenge is that I begin work earlier with my new job and it makes it almost impossible to work out in the morning. I was used to relying on morning exercise sessions if I knew I would be busy in the evening, but now I have been skipping them all together b/c I can't fit it in. I really need to just suck it up and work out at 5AM!! Yikes! :scared:

My screenname hmm...I love winnie the pooh and when I act silly I call that silly old bear winniedapooh. You know those days when you feel little, lol. Not really very creative...

I love to walk the ocean and not just any ocean...Old Orchard Beach in Maine. I try to go several times a year and just walk. I am talking 5+ miles a day or more. In the winter I am often barefoot in the ocean doing this. My knees feel awesome, the water is warmer than the air or the snow/frozen sand (lol), and my soul settles down. I feel calm, happy, and at peace. Obviously I cannot do that everyday so I have begun walking again. It started 3 weeks after the surgery, I know this may sound stupid but I grab a cart and walk around Target or the grocery store. I am about ready to begin walking the cemetary again and don't have to park in handicapped as often. Tonight I parked at the far end of the lot :thumbsup2

For me trying to jumpstart has been difficult due to the surgery. I was back to work part time for a few weeks and exhausted as well as more than sore. This is my first full week back and I went and got every client---I did not have to call the front desk and say send them down I am sore. I also chose an office at the far end of my building to help my walking. Next week I will begin taking some of my clients (teens) out for a walk during our sessions. Dual purpose---I get good therapy results from them and it is good physical therapy for me. So I guess long story...sorry...I have to take this slow and steady so as not to undue what I just had fixed.

Go RED TEAM:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

It has been a long couple of weeks for me constantly working and with 6 kids (ranging from 20 years to 20 months) it is very loud and hectic at home. Question of the day my screen name means busy mom. I work for a large Sheriff's Office in California and 10-6 is police jargan for busy, so hence my screen name. It was just so fitting.

Weigh to go, TEAM ! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I only contributed 5 points to the challenge, so felt a bit guilty about taking the clippie ... but then I reminded myself that this is a team effort, and every little bit from every little member helps. :)

Congrats to all on the challenge, and on the very close 2nd place this week.

....a fly by before hitting the shower....

user name: like my pal Tigger, I Bounce Too! :tigger:
My sister actually came up with the name and allowed me to use it. Years later when she registered for the DIS, she wished she hadn't! (she settled for TiggersPal)

let's see, there was a QOTD about work too: I work for a local TV station (NBC affiliate) in the National Sales department and book commercial schedules for advertisers from all over the country (though I just handle the LA ones right now). Lots of paperwork, lots of phone calls but some interesting things do go on there! Which reminds me, Biggest Looser program times are all over the place over the rest of the season. I'll post the changes if I can sneak in a break at work today.

Favorite form of exercise: Swimming, which is why it's been a challenge to get in exercise now that the pool is too cool. I have joint issues, and this is the best exercise for me. I have an LA Fitness right by the house and plan to pop in and see what the going rate is, so I can use their pool...even though I SWORE I would never spend another dime on a gym membership!

Can't contribute to 'part two' of the above, as I HAVE NOT yet overcome my struggles to get exercising as part of my routine! Hopefully others response to this (and I plan to read all three threads for ideas), will help me with this! :thumbsup2

Hi again team. Just got back from my one hour powerwalk at lunch ... although I'm having serious shin pain this week, so I had to stop and stretch for a few minutes at about the 1/2 way mark ... worked wonders though. :thumbsup2

Screen name ... total lack of creativity as it's just my name, minus the hyphen. LOL

Favourite form of exercise - power walking. It's usually not too hard on the body, with the exception of my shins this week. I like the fresh air, and if I'm by myself, I don't think about anything ... just total quiet time ... often don't even take my MP3 with me. My friends that I walk with at lunch like to do better than a 15 minute mile, so it forces me to work harder. :)

Biggest stuggle that I've overcome, is making the time to do it. Having a nag for a good friend that gives me grief when I miss a lunchtime workout has been the best for me. She couldn't go on Wed this week, but even without her, I went to the gym and did 30 min on the TM. 2 months ago, I would have been on the DIS that lunch hour instead and been  that I didn't "have to do a workout 'cause she wasn't forcing me to". but I still like to whine and complain to her because it makes her continue to feel needed and will keep up the great work as a nag. :rotfl:

so if you can set aside that time for your exercise, and make it such that it doesn't interfere with precious family and at-home life ... you'll be so much happier. :goodvibes

there ... I've just earned 10 points for the team by answering those 2 questions ... for those of you that haven't posted yours yet, let's get posting!

Happy Friday TEAM!

I have to say that I have been seriously slacking lately. I am unmotivated and just lazy. The weather around here has been cold and rainy and I think that is my problem. We have gone out to eat three times this week and I have eaten wayyyyyy too much. I have to get back on track but I just feel like I'm in a major slump.

My favorite exercise is playing volleyball. My dh and I were on a co-ed team and it was so much fun. We didn't sign up for it this year and now I wish I would have. We had to sign up months ago and we were just so busy so we didn't end up doing it. Now I really regret it. There is always next year.

My biggest struggle is just going to the gym. I have the girls home all day and when they go to gym at 4:30 I could go work out. Lately I have been making excuses for not going. Things like I should clean the kitchen, scrub the shower, etc. I then take them to gym and come home and do nothing. Like I said I am in a serious slump. At least I just got our team a few points.

Screen Name - fairly obvious. At the time I joined the Dis DD was the only child. Luckily DS isn't old enough yet to ask why I don't have his name too. :)

Favorite exercise -I like the elliptical machine for cardio. It's probably the only way I'll ever get to watch Oprah. I can go to the gym, the kids go to the playroom and I get to watch an uninterrupted hour of television that doesn't involve animated characters!

Overcoming Challenges - Two things have made a real difference for me. The first was discovering the Enell bra. I was always busty and sports/exercise aren't a lot of fun for busty girls without a really good sports bras (running hurt!). I can run now and I LOVE that bra. The other thing that has helped is getting DH involved. Since we train together, it's couple time as well. It makes it more fun, plus it gets DH encouraging me to head to the gym with him, rather than trying to talk me out of going because he wants to spend time with me.

Hey guys,

Congrats on winning the challenge. I just ran 12 miles so I have put in 128 of my 150 exercise minutes in one day. I can not believe I was able to complete the run and it was pouring rain today so now I am FREEZING. I was at 11.77 miles and someone stopped me from a car to ask directions. Now, I know you are lost, but it is raining, you are in a car, I am in the rain, please pull over and look at a map and let me get home to warm up! At least I have burned enough calories to eat birthday cake tonight. I am making a Weight Watcher recipe, a chocolate chip crumble cake for my mother in law. She seems to be ok with healthy food, though I feel guilty we are making a total Weight Watcher meal for her birthday. :)

Robin

bridgetgabbie -

That is too funny about the lost people in the nice warm car :lmao: asking directions from the freezing runner who's trying to help out her Red Team :-).

Everyone :teeth: -

just stopping by - have to take my DD to Homecoming Dance, she and some friends are meeting up there.

They grow up too soon, y'know?
agnes!

Good morning everyone,

I am up way too early for a Sunday morning. Go Red Sox! I must admit I didn't make it until the end of the game, I was so tired from my run yesterday. I have my Weight Watcher weigh in this morning and I think it is going to be a good one. After last week I need a good weigh in.

Halloween party with the family today. I am Minnie Mouse, DD1 is the Little Mermaid, and DD2 is Sebastian. They are so cute, I will post a link to a picture later. My husband is a Jedi, we bought him the Mickey costume off of Disneystore.com but it looked terrible. I guess he isn't going to match. Have a good Sunday!
