BL 3 --Red team week 1

Fish - I use a spice rub by Urban Accents called Fisherman's Wharf. I mix it in with some bread crumbs, dredge the fish through them, then saute in a little olive oil.

I'm a SAHM and it doesn't help my diet. Too often I'm busy fixing meals for the kids (getting DD out the door to school on time - she's just in K and still needs a lot of assistance getting ready, fixing her hair, etc.) and don't get around to breakfast for myself until 9:30 or 10 o'clock! Of course, then I'm not hungry for lunch when DS wants to eat around 11:30, so I feed him and eat something on the run for myself after he goes down for his nap. You know how you will spend a lot of time/effort fixing something for your kids, or the whole family, but that's too much trouble for just you, so you just grab whatever's handy? That's me in a nutshell. I'm trying to stock up on healthy things that are handy and sound good to me so that I'll actually eat them. Those SB Diet wraps were on sle last week and I had some of those. They were really good. I also like the lemon Luna bars. What I really need to work on is more fruit and veggies.

Guilty Pleasure: I really don't have one. I guess I could say kettle corn at the movie theatre, but I go maybe once a month if that.

Question of the Day: I work full-time outside of the home. I answer 911 calls and talk to officers on the radio. I just went back to graveyard after many years on dayshift so my eating and sleeping are all out of wack. I am trying not to have soda after 10 pm and that seems to be working. I drink my water after 10pm. I also try not to eat after 10 pm, until at least 530 am and then I have oatmeal and OJ for breakfast (or at least recently that is what I have been having). It keeps me full while I am sleeping and then I don't wake up starving either. My job kills my weight loss because I am tied to a table for 12 hours( literally I have a headset with maybe a 10 ft cord). We usually get two 15 min breaks and a 30 min lunch. Not a lot of time to do anything with. I do stand up when my back starts to hurt, but other then stretching a little bit when the phones aren't ringing I can't do much more than that. I work 12 hour days and sometimes longer so by the time I sleep and spend sometime with the kids, I really have no time for myself.

winniedapooh - is it an apple orchard that is open to the public? We are looking for a new place to go apple picking. I assume the donuts are cider donuts and have cinnamon sugar on them? You can feel the coolness in the air, the leaves are turning....its time for apples!

One good thing is I have started to get the water in my body again. I am drinking probably close to 100 ounces a day now. They say you are supposed to drink 1/2 your weight in water a day......can't remember which they said that though.

Happy Saturday Night!!!

Yup a local orchard in right outside of Worcester and they are apple cider...you know that commercial "Time to make the donuts"...well, by mid October it is time to make the bleeping donuts for me, lol:rotfl: Mary Lou's coffee hmmm I thought they were just an ad on TV :rotfl: as I have never seen one! 1/2 your weight in water eee gads I need to investigate that one! Have a great Sunday!:goodvibes

Let's successfully end this weekend by having a great day today.

How did you do yesterday? I had a bad day with my program, I didn't eat after 8, but that means I skipped dinner. Oh, well, scale looks good today. I did 4 f & v, no exercise, about 6 c water, and woe was not great. Once again, not what I should be doing. Will today be better? Who knows? I will commit to exercise today. I really need to start working on that.

Question of the day

Have you found a delicious healthy frozen food, if so what is it?

me first - this is not too original, lean pockets. DH loves lean cuisine swedish meatballs. I can't get him the regular type, he likes the lean cuisine. I hope you have better stuff to share.

Team Trivia

for all team members to answer. Do you have a dangerous place or time of day that you tend to eat things off your program? If so, what are you doing to change that habit?

me first - My very dangerous time is dinner preparation. While I am cooking I eat stuff, any stuff I can find. I am thinking of having a small salad before I even start dinner. I hope that will help.

Off to a not very healthy breakfast, not a good way to start the day, but it is Sunday morning tradition around here. Hopefully next week I will be able to say no the not so healthy stuff on Sunday morning.

I will see you later. Make healthy choices today, certainly better ones than I am making right now. We can do this and every pound counts. It would be great to win week one, but it would be better for each and every one of us to be closer to our weight loss goals.

Welcome to njcarita, our newest team member. We now have 32 on our team.

Go Red Team!!!

How did you do yesterday?

Better than the day before! :thumbsup2 I did not get to the gym but I ate well and drank my water. :yay:

Question of the day

Team Trivia

No. ;) The only frozen foods I like are NOT healthy at all so I just stay away from them.

for all team members to answer. Do you have a dangerous place or time of day that you tend to eat things off your program? If so, what are you doing to change that habit?

Night time is hardest for me, after the kids go to bed. It's SO easy to curl up with a package of peanut MnMs and the DIS so now I try chew a piece of sugarless gum and fill my favorite mug with iced cold water. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Go Red Team!!!

Yes, go Team Red!!! :cheer2:

Do you work full time or part time, inside or outside the home, or are you a SAHM (stay at home Mom)? And yes I know that SAHM is also a full time job! How does your employment situation affect your weight loss efforts.

I work part time. I am a preschool teacher to twelve 2 year olds. :scared: Last week was the first week so it was a little rough. This week should be better. I work from 8:30-12. Right now, since I'm back at work I'm not around food, I'm hoping it will help my weight loss efforts.

QOTD: for all team members to answer. Do you have a dangerous place or time of day that you tend to eat things off your program? If so, what are you doing to change that habit?

The worst part of the day for me is from 3:00 (when the kids get home from school) and 6:30 (before we eat dinner). I could snack all during that time. I'm trying to get in more exercise during that time and stay out of the kitchen.

Somehow I missed this part.............

I was a SAHM up until May 2006 when I needed to get a job in my field to be able to earn my intern hours for my Masters degree, which I have done. :cheer2: Now I need to work the 4,000 hours to be licensed. Anyway, I find it easier to eat well at work then at home. Even though there are goodies all of the time it's much harder for me when I am at home. Our hospital's cafeteria food is just that, cafeteria food and nothing to write home about. The weekends are what kill me food wise. :sad1:

/
Frozen anything except ice cream have not tried. I am looking forward to others answers to this to help me at work.

Dangerous time of day for me is at night after 8...when the kids have wound down or are going to bed, homework is done, and I have no homework. I find I want to graze big time...what helps, I keep my scale in my room near my bed so that I have to look at!:thumbsup2

I am so panicked at eating that I have bascially been eating nothing all day except a granola bar, tons of water, and then eating a small dinner with mostly healthy choices. I need to stop that and round it out a bit so that I eat something for lunch. I am ashamed to admit about 700-1000 calories a day...any suggestions?

Good day yesterday food wise. Had an egg with a slice of ham for breakfast. Lunch was later in the day with family at Claim Jumper. I had the lunch portion of rotis. chicken, substitued asparagus for the mashed potatoes and ordered a side serving of their Thai slaw. Ate half, and had the rest for a late dinner last night. Planned on swimming but fell asleep around 4;30P and didn't wake up till 8!!! Sleep cycle was 'off' the night before, so I guess I needed the catch up time, as I still was able to go to bed and fall right back asleep at 10:30PM. So I have to hit the pool again today.

QOTD: nothing to contribute here..pretty much don't buy anything frozen except some veggies.

Team Trivia: My biggest challenges come when eating out....I LOVE FRENCH FRIES, and some times it's just soooooo hard to ask for that salad or veggies substitute.

Have a good day everyone.....almost weigh in time!

QOTD - The SB Kung Pao meal is really good, especially when I'm craving Chinese food. Keeps me away from the fried rice! Schwan's also makes pizzas for their "livesmart" line Fiesta Chicken and Tomato/Basil Margherita that are really good and filling for only 240 calories. I haven't tried micowaving them, I usually bake them in the oven on my pizza stone and they turn out great.

Team Trivia - My bad time of the evening is after the kids go to bed. DH is a snacker and that's when he starts getting out ice cream, cookies, etc. It's SO tempting some nights. Since I also need to be getting more sleep, I think my solution may be to take a book and head upstairs after the kids are tucked in, rather than hanging out downstairs too close to the kitchen! I tend to get caught up in the computer and stay up too late, so it's a two birds with one stone strategy.

Michelle,

Yes you will lose weight eating only 700-1000 calories a day, but this is not the wisest way to lose weight in the long run. The purpose of this challenge is to not only lose weight but to also develop healthy habits that we can continue with to reach our weight loss goals. With your calorie intake I am concerned that you will burn yourself out and then revert to unhealthy eating habits.

I know with 5 littles ones your life is hectic, to say the least. I can't stress how important it is for you to have a weight loss eating plan that will work for you. It does take time to plan, prepare, and make sure that healthy food is in the house, but it is well worth it. Make sure you take time for yourself everyday. There will always be other demands on your time, but you need to take care of you. If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

My healthy suggestions
1. Eat breakfast. Oatmeal, I like the instant microwave type, but the cook type is healthier. At this stage of my life I feel that micro is better than sugar cereal alternatives. High fiber cereals are good too. I like general mills fiber one or fiber one honey nut clusters. Sometimes a sliced banana is good in the cereal. A fruit with breakfast is good, or the fruit can be a mid morning snack.

2. Lean protien. Boneless/skinless chicken, pork, and fish are all good dinner choices. Make sure they are baked or broiled, fried is bad.

3. 5 fruits and vegetables a day. Vegetables really help to fill you up. I usually keep an opened can of green beans in the fridge. When I need an extra vegetable I can easily nuke a serving just for me. I find when I am eating healthy a wonderful fresh fruit can quench a sweet tooth craving. A perfectly ripe fresh peach can be a slice of heaven.

4. Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. Diet soda and juice do not count.

5. Plan your meals and snacks and eat them periodically throughout the day. After things have wound down for the evening after 8 pm may be your time to curl up with an apple and have some "Michelle" time. This could be a time to plan your meals and snacks for the next day or visit here on the DIS. Non fat yogurt, some fruit mixed with non fat cottage cheese, or a fruit smoothie might be a nice treat at the end of a long day. I confess, I know soda is bad, but once a week or so I have a tall cold one with lots of ice. Diet of course.

Michelle, I'm sure you already know all these things I have mentioned. I certainly am not an expert here by any means. I have a long way to go and a lot to learn. I am here for a long journey. I sometimes wish I could wake up and have all this excess weight gone overnight. But then I remember that there is much for me to learn along this journey. Changing my eating habits and my obsessive/compulsive relationship with food will not happen overnight. It will only happen with small baby steps. When I slowly develop some healthy habits I can then work on something else that needs to change. It is a process, and I am working on changing habits instead of standing still and not moving towards my goals.

Hey Red Team, We can do this. We have committed to change our lives to live healthier. That's why we are here and that's why we will be victorious if we keep trying.

cherylp3, I am definitely not allergic to iodine. I give blood/platelets frequently, no issues with the iodine prior. Thank you for the link. For those of you who have never been apple picking in the fall, nothing beats picking that apple, rubbing it shiny with your shirt and taking a bite. It is the most perfect taste in the world. I think we will go in two weekends.

QOD: There really is no frozen food that can be great for you, except for the veggies. The frozen meals have too much sodium in them. So I try to stay away from frozen.

Dangerous Time:When I get home from work, until after dinner is done.

An idea for everyone to try tomorrow. We all snack, a jelly bean here, a bite of a cookie there. Even if you don't write it down and no one sees you, your body still knows you ingested it. :lmao: Take those items, bits, bites, etc. that you would not count towards your daily caloric intake and put them all in a ziploc bag. Then you can see at the end of the day all the little things that add up.

A tip for everyone that I just started to do. I find it easy to portion control my food as it goes on my plate the first and second time (yes I know I should only have one serving). So to avoid that second helping, after I get all three plates ready, I take leftovers and package them, place them in fridge. Nothing to go back to as it is all put away. Problem solved. Out of site, out of mind.

Hope everyone has had a great Sunday.

We are winding down the first week of BL. Our weigh in is tomorrow. Are you ready?

How was yesterday? I am happy I finally exercised again, and finally got my 5 f & v and did not eat after 8. I did not water and my woe was still not what I want it to be. I am going to have a great day today.

Question of the day

share a healthy receipe.

me first - as I have mentioned, I don't cook, so my collection of healthy receipes is nonexistant. I will share a receipe for a fruit smoothie. I buy bananas for my guys and sometimes they do not get eaten, and they get rotten. Then it is smoothie time. One very ripe banana, one container nonfat fruit flavored yogurt, 4 oz of skim milk, 1/4 - 1/3 c some other fruit. I like strawberries when I have some around the house, today will be canned crushed pineapple. Sometimes I put in a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but that defeats the healthiness. Throughly blend. Makes two servings.

Team Trivia

for all team members to answer. Who do you live with, DH, kids, SO (significant other), parents, pets, etc? Do they help or hinder your weight loss efforts?

me first - I live with DH of 27 years and right now DS22 is home from college until he gets married November 30. DS is trying to lose weight also so he is generally supportive of my efforts. DH likes his junk food and does not care for salad or carrots and celery. I buy junk food for him but always try to get things that I don't care for. If I get something that I remotely care for it is not good. He actually has no business eating the junk, but I can't tell him to quit eating it, that is a decision he needs to make, when he is ready.

Please stop in and share how you are doing. Let's get united Red Team. We are THE BEST!!

Red Team Rules!!!

Wow! I missed a lot over the weekend. Let me start by saying am a weekend nurse working 12 hour shifts on Sat & Sun. So, I guess Mondays I will spend catching up.

The only fish I have ever cooked are in the form of sticks or patties. LOL

I love, love, love lean cuisine panninis. My favorite is the cheese steak.

I don't think I have an eating time that is the hardest. The worst I can think of is on Friday nights when the kids pull out a bag of chips & my mouth starts watering. It's quite sad really.

Let me finish by saying that i really hope I don't disppoint anyone tomorrow but my scale has been stuck for weeks.

Should have known I would miss a couple of questions. :lmao:

I can't think of any healthy recipes right now.

I live with DH (36), DD (16), DS (11) & DS (6). DH is also trying to lose weight, he doesn't have much to lose. The children are about as supportive as skinny children can be. :lmao: I just make sure they understand that we all started out that way & boy does that skin stretch if you aren't watching it.

I can't think of any healthy recipes either. When I cook, I still cook the same foods, just maybe use the butter sprays instead of real butter. Light sour cream instead of the real stuff. Incorporate whole grain pasta instead of the regular stuff. Brown rice instead of white, etc. Small adjustments that do a lot in the long run. The only thing I can't stand is light mayo. I need the real stuff. A few years back there was a mayo that I think was from Kraft, it was Just Two Good Mayonaisse and it was better than the light stuff they make, now I can't find it anywhere.

Just joined yesterday--

wanted to drop in and say a quick HI:wave:

WELCOME!

:lmao: I just make sure they understand that we all started out that way & boy does that skin stretch if you aren't watching it.

Thanks for the early morning laugh! :lmao:

I don't have any receipes to share (at least that I can think of this early in the morning....may be able to come back with some tonight).

I live alone, so I'm 100% responsible for what's in the house and what I put in my body! Tough part is cooking for one, so that's what I'll be focusing on over the next couple of weeks....to get back into the shopping/cooking/packing lunch zone. I will say I have a lot of expertiese in ORDERING the right stuff when I eat out though! :thumbsup2 About 50% of the dining out I do is alone (lunch) and a lot of my dinners out are with my sister, who is also in loosing mode right now. Most restaurant portions are so large that I can take a doggie bag for my lunch or split stuff with sis.

Does anyone do a 'day before weigh in' behaviour? I always make sure I get in my water and watch the salt content of the foods I eat that day. Don't know if that's just a head game, but I sure don't want any bloat on scale day! :rotfl2:

Have a good day, kids!

Hello Red team. Well, week one and I totally didn't check in here with my friends :sad1: , nor did I start back on an exercise program, nor did I journal all of my eating. The only thing I did accomplish is keeping track of my water intake. I drank at least 64oz per day, and I'd like it to be closer to 100oz. I do fine at work, but at home, not so good. But at least it's something.

I won't try to catch up on all of the missed questions, but I'm 41 years old, I live with my DH of almost 14 years, DD10 and DS7. My biggest downfall is white, yes WHITE bread, and if it's fresh, I'll find myself eating 4 slices late at night before bed. :scared1: I've followed WW points system before and I do like it. So I pulled out my old books on the weekend.

I don't cook, so no recipes to share. DH does all of the cooking. I will say that I love fat-free sour cream instead of the regular stuff. Goes great on a small baked potato - no butter or margarine necessary. :) I'm starting back with Oatmeal for breakfast this week ... I love it, and find that it fills me up more more than any other cereal.

So, after a pretty much non-existant start last week, this week my goal is to start journalling, keep up with the water, and get out for a good brisk 30 minute walk at least 3 times this week. I'd like to do more, :yay: but I'll see how it goes before I promise too much. LOL

Please feel free to "kick my butt into gear" with PM's to remind me to exercise and journal. ;)

A couple of little things...

A good substitute for sour cream is Trader Joe's Greek Style Yogurt, either the fat-free or 2%. Really good and so much better for you than sour cream or butter.

When making a smoothie, use some frozen fruit instead of ice+fresh fruit. It makes the smoothie rrrreaally thick and lucious. I'll get the large bags of frozen fruit from Costco or some smaller speciality bags from Trader Joes, the (frozen berries/mango/peach) combinations work especially well.

agnes!
