Any deals out there for a BJ's membership? Mine expired in August...was hoping they'd send me a sweet deal to renew, but so far nothing. :( I need to go! LOL

i did read a few weeks ago on this board about a free 60 day trial until 12/31/09. it might have been for first time customers. you cant open this membership on line you have to go into a BJ to open this membership.

I dont have a close BJ and i was looking at it just for the savings on car rentals.

I used to get a coupon for $10 less to renew with a Mastercard but I didn't get that this year. Mine expires at the end of the month and I keep holding out to do it. Figure if I don't have the coupon it doesn't matter if I don't do it until the next time I go rather than make a special trip by the 31st.

our membership expired in June. I didn't renew it because I wasn't sure I wanted to pay the $45 fee. In September I decided we really did get a lot of things there, but I did not want to renew our membership; I thought it might renew back to June and since it was September, I wanted the membership to go Sept - Sept. The old membership was in DH's name, so I just went to the membership desk and told them I wanted to open a new membership. I got new membership for $10 off and it was for 15 months instead of only 12.

I am a manager at BJ's and sadly the promos are for new members only (60 day free trial or a new member paid membership with a merchandise coupon and extra months free). BUT I will say that if you see if there is any incentive for you to renew your membership they will usually give you a few months free extra on it, though you'd have to pay the renewal fee of $45. (sometimes it takes a manager, expecially if you mention knowing there is a promo going around for new members) Just an FYI.

This is correct and usually if a member comes up and mentions this I will see if there is a way to make this happen (such as check if they were the free supplement, or see if their spouse can sign up as primary this time..etc) and give them the deal.

Not sure if they would know this - but call and see if they have any 'deal's with your local YMCA. We had a YMCA party a couple weeks ago - they offered a deal of $38 for membership PLUS $5 of that went back to my local YMCA. It is for the 15 months so I hopped on it.

I should clarify that I didn't even ask for this deal and didn't even know it existed...I only wanted the new membership so it would go Sept - Sept instead of renewing my previous membership from June. I am glad the associate did it for me regardless...it made me very happy!

We were hoping for the extra couple of months! I think we got this last year, but my mom renewed thru her job and got the deal. :) I was hoping for something in the mail...but I guess it's worth a trip over there to see if they'll do it. Thanks for the tip!!

:) GLad she checked for you and saw you weren't the primary. This is what I do and encourage the desk staff to do since the member gets the deal and the incentives.

Question for you...what do they consider a new member? I've been the supplemental on my mom's membership for a few years. Before that, she was supplemental on mine. How many years go by without a membership would they consider you new? Or is it once a member always a member?

We're also at a new address now...does that play a part?

Just wondering what the rules are. :) Thanks!

Good questions....I'll try to go to BJ's on lunch and see if I can get some answers. Will let you know!

If you haven't had a membership under your name as primary under the new address you'll be fine--when we look up memberships we look them up by name and address, so there you have a loophole ;)
Just go in and say you want a BJ's membership and when they ask if you've been a member before say "YEARS ago...under someone else" and then ask if they have a promotion for new members to join, you may not even have to get that far---they may automatically tell you about the promo and sign you up ;)

I expired end of August and have been (not so patiently) waiting for our school to run their BJ's membership fund raising drive. With that we get the 15 month membership for the 12 month rate and can renew our old one (or add 15 months onto one if not expired yet). We run the drive in Nov... just a week or so to go! :rolleyes1

Anyhow you should see if any of your local schools are participating in it. You don't NEED to have kids their to support the school and you would get a few extra months and the schools PTO would get a little extra funding from you signing up through them. :goodvibes

OK, just got back from BJ's (Westbury, Long Island). I told the woman that my membership expired and asked if they had any deals right now. She said yes, you get 14 months and a $10.00 coupon towards your next purchase, for $ 45.00. And you get another household card. She asked my daughters name and if the address was the same. I told her my daughter used to live with me but doesn't any more. She then asked for my daughter's new address so she could have her own card. So, I went for it. Got a new membership for 14 months, $10, another card, all for $ 48.88 (NY tax you know!) (Also got a magazine with coupons in it and another coupon brochure)

Not a bad deal!

So, you're all set daughter! We'll shop Thursday nite!
