HI ALL!
In the New England area a News story said that BJ's Warehouse had its Credit Card database stolen by a computer hacker.
Has anyone else heard of this story?

We just started building rewards with our Dis Visa by going to BJ's recently so we have concerns.

If you have shopped BJ's suggest you call your credit card provider and ask if you sholud do any thing!

I saw this on local news so I went to bjs.com and they had something about it. It sounds like this is an after the fact thing were if your number was stolen, it was stolen. It stated that bj's was trying to fix the problem on a branch to branch basis. I will probably pay cash for a few months when I go there. Just watch your credit card statement and if you see something that should not be there call your credit card company immediately.

The local news here (Syracuse NY) did not tell us what company
had the problem but was warning people to check their statements and debit card accounts.

We have BJ's here too but I don't shop there...
I hope things aren't too bad for any DISer.

Lori

I don't shop at BJ's, but I got a letter from my Credit Union on Saturday saying my Visa Check Card's number falls within the range of the cards with compromises security, so they cancelled it. I'm a little annoyed now though, since I use my check card for EVERYTHING and I have no regular ATM card to get cash out of the bank. Now I know to get a regular ATM card in addition to the Visa Check card.

Once upon a time I had a BJs MC.

I'd gone there and made a purchase- and when I received my statement the following month, there was $500 worth of long distance phone calls to the carribbean on it!!! :(

It took me 6 months to get the calls cleared off my bill, and they were charging me interest the whole time!!!

Needless to say, I closed that account..........

I live in MA and recently shopped at BJ's with my American Express. I happen to get this statement sent to me online. Thank goodness, I receive it online about two weeks before I get it in the mail. I noticed 4 charges that I didn't make, all in Florida, 2 in Orlando. I had no clue how someone got my number. AE cancelled the charges right away, and sent me a new card. They said there would be an investigation. Of course, a few days later, I heard about the BJ's hacker. That was only 1 of 3 charges I had made that month. BJ's had just started accepting AE, too! At least now I know how they got into my account! I'm glad I caught it early.

Hi, We have yet to hear anything about this locally. do you, perchance, have a link to this? TIA.

This was on the front page of the Boston Herald last week except when I read the article I didn't notice that it was debit cards as well as credit cards. That could be bad for me since I always pay by debit card there.

I live in MA and rec'd a letter from my bank stating my debit/visa logo bank card was on a list of numbers accessed by an unauthorized party. For those of you around here, WB56's Ten O'clock News team had a report 2 nights ago stating the victims were shoppers at BJ's. I canceled my debit card and rec'd a new one. So far, so good, there have been no unauthorized charges made to my card. The woman at the bank said no personal info was accessed except for the card number's themselves. Kind of creepy though, knowing it's so easy for your info to be accessed!!!

It is not that easy, someone with way too much time on their hands spent a lot of time hacking that site. It does not make it right, but, I just wanted you to know it is not that easy, and, no, I am not speaking from personal experience here. :)
