I understand from another site that Blizzard Beach will close for a refurb on October 23. CAn anyone confirm this? Thats our first day at WDW and we were going to go to Blizzard Beach on the 23rd. I hope we don't have to change our plans.

Sorry to report that is correct. It is on the official WDW website.

BB will be closed till around the second week of December.

TL will be open while you are there if it is any consolation....

No, they usually close for about eight weeks.
