Bit annoyed. Work at AKL

I'm wondering since its work on villas is there a chance we won't get our initial room booked? Or they make sure to keep e ouch rooms not being worked on that people have indeed booked. May be silly but resorts over book at times and sometimes put you in rooms you did not request.

That's a possibility even without roons removed from inventory due to construction.

Now I'm worried bc like I said it 100% was not posted when I booked. So at what point did Disney stop allowing ppl to book rooms when they decided to do this refurb? When you book a trip and pay for it I expect to be in the room i booked initially. That's the whole point in advance booking. Which we did November 1st 2015

Well I live in Northern Virginia where construction is everywhere and when you're paying $8000 to stay at a resort I'd hope not to see or hear construction. No it would not ruin my trip but I did not know the extent of the work that's why I asked.
Wow! What kind of room are you staying in?

As said by a PP, construction in a resort has no bearing on your odds of getting what you booked. We didn't get what we booked at CSR this past February and it didn't have a thing to do with construction. It's always possible. I don't believe construction makes it any more likely. From what others have said they did see the construction notice near the time you booked so either you missed it or it was put up days after you booked. In either case, they knew the construction was coming and would plan accordingly. I wouldn't stress over the room. Odds are extremely high you will get what you book and if you don't, they'll make it up either by refunding you or giving you a better room.

And to be clear, you booked a room category not a specific room. Have you looked now to see if rooms are still available for your dates? If so, you have nothing at all to worry about. And remember, check full price, not promo. Promo rooms are limited. Full price will give you a better idea of inventory. And even then it's not 100% as they put out blocks of rooms to places like Orbtiz or Cheaptickets and will return to the Disney inventory at some point.

And you are looking at a DVC which is even more different than the regular rooms. Did you rent points or pay cash to Disney?

It must have been posted shortly after I booked bc like I said I've seen it numerous other times. Anyways hopefully it's not an issue and we're fine. But yes it will be disappointing to not get what we booked and have been looking forward to for 10 months!!! We paid cash to Disney were not DVC owners. Thanks for the info and I'll hope for the best.

We are at kidani. I feel as if it's just rooms maybe it won't be so bad. Since floors are closed. I just know when we visited the poly it was so obvious it was going on. But maybe Poly was doing a lot more in common areas and the resort areas?

I agree with AngiTN. This is NOTHING like the Poly construction project. Nothing

What do you mean by this? You don't get an "initial room booked ". You never book a specific room. You can book a room category, but not a room. And at Disney a request is just a request, it is never guaranteed.

Like I said I had no idea the type of construction that's why I asked.
Yes when you book a room you don't get an actual room number but if I book a "1 bedroom Savannah view villa" and I get there and they give me standard view standard bed room id be a bit pissed off. I'm not an idiot I know it's not guaranteed but I've never had a hotel change my room. I was just curious bc of this soft refurb if that meant rooms would get switched around. Not sure why it's a big deal for me to be concerned about a trip we paid so much money for.

I fully understand being concerned about construction, but as others have stated, what is going on at AKL is not anywhere near what has been going on at the Poly or at WL. While I would think twice about staying at a resort with a major refurb going on, I would not hesitate to book at AKL during a soft refurb.

I would be surprised if the soft refurbishment affects your stay at all.

AKL is a fabulous place to stay. I hope you end up loving it as much as we do.

Honestly, you're getting really, really, really worked up over nothing.

The odds of them doing that are so very slim they are negligible. And if they do, they won't charge you for a 1 bed room. You would be compensated for the difference in the costs of the rooms

Try not to worry. It won't prevent something bad from happening, and will just make you frazzled. If they try to downgrade your room (unlikely) as to be upgraded instead. Or ask to switch to another resort. But it is highly unlikely.

I booked our September trip back like 6 months ago. I chose AKL because Ive always wanted to stay there and I know my kids would. I knew nothing about work being done when our trip was being booked. We are going Sept 8-17. It looks like if they plan to start work they should let you know when you book for certain times. I just looked at the website and it says work is being done to numerous floors at Kidani Village. I know it wont ruin our trip but I don't really want to be seeing construction or hearing it on vacation. As I know that it has to be done at times but it does effect the feeling of being at nice resort on vacation. We went to the Poly years ago to get a dole whip and check it out while it was being worked on and it was so obvious and really took away from the resort while the work was being done and I said to myself I was so glad i wasn't staying at a resort that was being worked on.

We were in Jambo House in April, and there were renovations going on there during our stay, and I can tell you that it did not affect our stay in any way at all. The construction was on the hallway we stayed on, but a floor or two above us, and I never heard anything. When I was walking around the halls, I did see that the doorway to that section was closed off and there was a sign that said something like "pardon our appearance" but I didn't see anything besides the sign. I did see a couple construction workers going in and out of there in hardhats, but that certainly was not something that affected my enjoyment of the resort or my level of relaxation.

I think you will find that it is much less disruptive than you are anticipating.

I am quite confident that you will get at least the room you booked, and if there aren't enough of them, you'll end up with something better. Disney is not in the business of downgrading people's vacations.

Thanks all for the info. I feel better knowing a bit more. I was worried at first bc I didn't know details.

I'm frazzled now bc of how I am being spoken to. Not sure why I'm not allowed to be concerned about sonthing. I was simply getting info.

That's good to know thanks!!!

Thanks! I just wasn't aware of the type I just remember seeing poly and it was everywhere!!!

We stayed at the Poly during the construction. We got several letters telling us all about the construction. I would guess that if the construction project is at the level of the POly you would've received notice in the mail. If not, I'd bet that whatever work is being done it's out of sight/out of mind. Believe me the Poly construction was a BIG job and unavoidable. Enjoy your trip!

I just know, I would have seen it I'm not a total idiot who can't read.

Anyways did it effect your stay? Was it noticeable?

I wouldn't worry about it. We were at the Poly last week and there was some construction going on, but I don't recall being notified about it. They were doing something to the Tonga longhouse and also to Aotearoa. We stayed in Aotearoa and walked by the workers everyday. The workers were polite and we never heard any noise in the room. Seeing them just made me feel grateful that I didn't have to work!

Enjoy your vacation:)

Hi Nichole,
I get it, I recently found out the renovations are not finished where we are staying next week & I was worried as well. I had booked our trip knowing they were renovating the BoardWalk villas and thought they would be done by the late spring completion date. I agree when you spend so much for a vacation all you want it for everything to go well. I would just be sure to call Disney before you check in and ask them to note that you want a room away from where they are working, and also request it again when you check in. With a soft goods renovation the only noise you might hear is hammering with the carpet replacement, but usually they work from 9 - 5 or 9 - 4, typically those are times a lot of people are out of their rooms or getting ready for dinner, it might not impact your stay at all. A Savanah View is amazing, we stayed at Kidani 4 years ago and loved it. I agree that the construction going on at the Poly when you were there was a much bigger magnitude. I would also go on tripadvisor for the building you are staying at (not sure if its Kidani or Jambo) and read the recent reviews to see if people are commenting on the renovations and if it impacted their stay at all
Wishing you a great trip and hope all goes well,
Marina :cutie:
