 Biscuits and gravy for breakfast!!!!!!!!!!Eeeewwww!!!!
I have seen this "delicacy" on some of the menus.Obviously they are not the same biscuits and gravy as we know them....or are they???
Biscuits:cookies
Gravy: Sauce made from meat juices

They are pretty much a southern/midwestern kind of thing. They are bread made with white flour, buttermilk and leavening shaped like saucers. They are normally about 1 1/2 or 2 inches thick and 3 inches in diameter (sorry don't know metrics!) They are not sweet at all and the gravy thing is a milk/sausage combination with flour as the thickener. Generaly the rolls are split in 1/2 and then the gravy is poured over them. I moved to KC from New England and had never heard of this before (or at least it wasn't very common/popular). Do I eat it? Yes, but I prefer danishes.

yummy! I am from Massachusetts and they are kind of hard to find here (good ones anyway), but everytime I am in the south (WDW) I have to eat them at least a couple of times. Now you made me hungry! Oh bntlyclg89, good description.

I am a southern girl raised on biscuits and sausage gravy. It is YUMMY!!!
It is not sweet, unless the sausage has a sweeter seasoning. The biscuits can be split open, kinda like an english muffin or just left whole. Then you slatther the sausage gravy on top. Much more than you would jam, it needs to be overflowing off the sides. Then you dig in!!!! Now I am craving it!!!!! It is something to at least try, very Southern thing to eat. Now, grits are just gross to me. Won't touch them. YUCK!

I love Biscuits & Gravy, although the ones I had at WDW were not my favorites.....

I'm also a southern girl raised on biscuits and gravy - yummy! If you want real biscuits and gravy, the good stuff, stop by Kentucky! :goodvibes

CT here and I love them!
I go to the nearest Cracker Barrell and always ask for a side of Gravy to go with the biscuits that they give you.

This reminds me of the "going commando" thread... :rotfl2:

Yep, but just to clarify a little further--the sausage is not in little links, it's cooked up like ground beef, then flour, milk added. They have it at all the breakfast buffets--you have to try it!

Now, if I could just figure out how to make sweet tea like they do in NC....

the closest thing to a biscuit might be an unsweetened scone/ wcc has them , husband likes it there my favorite is bob evans...

Not really a fan myself, but then I didn't grow up on it either. Not very common here in Massachusetts. But somewhere during all of her travels with the military, my sister developed a taste for it and she now makes biscuits and gravy somewhat regularly.

That's our little secret! :teeth:

I knew there was a secret ingredient! :rotfl: I lived/worked in Durham for a few years, and I still can't do it right!!!

well, now I'm going to be thinking of it all day---better go google it and make some.

I have to agree with you here :goodvibes I was born in KY & biscuits & gravy are my favorite! I love visiting family there knowing I will be eating some good food :sunny:

Biscuits here in the U.S. are not usually sweet. They're more like a roll...but not exactly. I know that here in the New England area, they're eaten more as a side to dinner than breakfast. Not sure how it is elsewhere in the U.S. Those wacky Kentuckians apparently eat them for breakfast. I prefer a bagel. ;)

Oh we love biscuits & gravy! My own recipe will actually be one of the recipes in my next "comfort food" cookbook! Yumm! Yum! :goodvibes

yeah no offense to those in Tenn. ( in laws live there) but they make the gravy with Crisco ( blech barf yuck, nothing like a hunk of grease for brkfst) but they make great biscuits

Nothin like a big plate of biscuits and gravy breakfast, dinner or supper.

As far as gravy being made with Crisco it's pretty much either Crisco, butter or sausage fat take your pick.

NOT the most healthy food there is but among the bestest of the best. NOW WHY can't it be something like spinach I can't have instead of carbs? Since I been forced to watch the carb intake not had biscuits and gravy but 1 or 2 times a year:(

Seems to be a fair number of folks from Massachusettes that like biscuits and gravy!!! My dh would eat that every morning in WDW if I let him. That's the only thing he misses when we don't do a breakfast buffet there.
But, I do use leftover biscuits the next morning for breakfast. I don't add sausage gravy to them but I do like to put a bit of strawberry jam on them. Maybe one day I will surprise dh and make him biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast. Any of you southerners have a decent (and easy) recipe for sausage gravy?

The way I make mine is nothing to fancy :goodvibes I cook my sausage(crumble like hamburger). When this is cooked I add flour to the sausage & drippings & then add milk. I also use alot of pepper(I do not use salt, but dh adds it to his). That's about it. Anyone else have a good recipe to share?
