Hi all,
I haven't been on for a while since we've taken a 2 year break from Disney. But we're going back (yay!!) in June. It will be my son's 8th birthday while we are there, and I was wondering if they did anything special for birthdays? What are some special things we can do for him?
He's had a rough time adjusting to his new baby sister, so I really want to make this a great day for him.
thanks!

1) Get him a birthday button to wear. They're free & available at the resort front desk or at guest services in the parks. Cast members will wish him happy b-day throughout the day & MAY spread some pixie-dust upon him...you just never know.

2) mention on your resort reservation & any ADRs that it is his birthday. Sometimes, balloons/and or a card will be delivered to your room. At some of your table-service reservations a b-day cupcake may be brought out to him. It just depends. Nothing is guaranteed.

We were in WDW on my DD's b-day last summer (and will be again this summer). Last summer, I ordered a cake from the cake hotline (407-827-2253) & had it delivered to the boat for our Illuminations Celebration Cruise. It was about $30.00 & well worth it. They have cakes in all price ranges.

Hope you have a great trip!

I have read that you should celebrate you birthday the whole time you are there. Just get a birthday button from every park and make it a birthday trip instead of just one day.

We celebrated my mom's birthday (66th) while we were at Disney last weekend.

We got her a birthday button and she got a lot of attention from cast members (and some other guests) who said "Happy birthday, Betty!" to her. One of the performers in AK's Jammin' Jungle parade even stopped and serenaded her with the whole Happy Birthday song!

We got the button at the resort and they must have marked down that it was her birthday. When we got back to the room that night, there was a birthday card and balloons to her from Cinderella and Prince Charming. (We did not specially request.)

We had dinner at Chef Mickey's and all the characters made a big deal out of mom's birthday button. During the meal, they did a special "birthday thing" and brought special cupcakes with candles to all the birthday people. From what I understood from the Dining Reservations lady, we could have bought a premade, non-personalized cake on the spot for $12.50 -- or, if you want something more special, you can order a cake from Disney's bakery to whatever specifications you want. (Price varies depending on what you order.) They need 48 hours notice for the custom cake. But, the dessert bar was so good at Chef Mickey's that the cupcake was plenty sufficient!

We've also celebrated birthdays at other Disney restaurants and I think they all go out of their way to make it special.

thanks so much!
Just a question though, we aren't staying at a Disney resort, can I still get the birthday pin from guest services?

Yes you can. In fact get at least three. One for the front and back of his shirt and one for his hat.

You could even get a personalized birthday t-shirt made. Check out the "dis"signs board and have an iron-on transfer made with his name and favorite character on it.

We took our daughter for her 2nd birthday. We got a birthday pin at resort check in for her to wear. She received happy birthdays from many CMs and charachters. She received a personalized autographed birthday card and picture from minnie and mickey that came with 3 balloons. We had a charchter breakfast that morning and she received another card and a birthday cupcake.
