Birthdays and Best Friends on the Deluxe Dining Plan

Great reviews!! I am so jealous of your adult's trip; DH and I are looking forward to doing that one day:tongue:

I'm a meanie parent too :) the hubby and I are headed to Disney next week for our 5yr anniversary. The kiddos are not thrilled but there will always be more trips! We are doing the delude dining too and very excited!

Yum! Everything looks delicious. Looking forward to reading the rest. Inspiration for my next trip!

The bottled water really ended up saving us money because we froze a couple bottles each night and took them with us to the parks. We bought a case of 24 bottles for about $3 and it saved us from having to use snack credits on them.

We always get a case of bottled water at the grocery store as well. A case for the equivilent of one bottle in the parks! A great savings.

I'm in!

Can't wait to hear all of your reviews -- for some of my favorite restaurants and some new ones too!

I'm currently planning two trips and your wonderful pictures might influence my ADR decision making :thumbsup2

Welcome to all the new readers :wave2:!

First we have a quick snack picture courtesy of girldreamer02.

The pretzel was cute, but it was pretty much just a soft pretzel.

That evening we were scheduled for dinner at the one restaurant DH requests every trip (although we probably added another one this trip, but that's coming later)......Ohana's.

We got there a bit before our friends, so we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. I honestly can't remember the name of what either of us had, and I only have one picture. I think this one was mine. I think it was some kind of mojito, and it was tasty.

Our table was actually ready before our drinks were, so we headed in and had a seat. Then the food started flowing. We love this place, and we always leave full. Our friends had never been here before, but I think they enjoyed it too.

First we have the bread, salad, and wings and pot stickers. I like the dressing on the salad, but I find the bread to be a little dry. I don't eat bone in wings, but DH seems to like them, and I ate a couple of the pot stickers. I try not to fill myself up on this part though because the best is yet to come.

Next up, my favorite part (well, I'm pretty fond of dessert too)....the Noodles!
DisneyJan2012042.jpg

I probably could have eaten the whole bowl myself, but I tried to be nice and share.

I didn't take any pictures of the meats, but I really enjoy the chicken, especially with the peanut sauce and the steak (when I can get a well done piece). I didn't care for the pork, and I don't think anyone else did either. Dh ate so many shrimp it was unbelieveable. At one point he tried to convince the server just to leave the whole thing :).

Finally, the wonderful bread pudding dessert. I'd never had bread pudding before our first trip to Ohana's, and and now I look forward to it every time.

Ohana's never disappoints us, and it will continue to head up our must do list!

Ok, on to my actual birthday. We started out with another meal that we do every trip. Breakfast at Crystal Palace. Pooh is my favorite, so we always have to make a stop here. We've always done breakfast though, so I can't really comment on any of the other meals. Breakfast has always been plentiful, and we've always had good service. This trip was no exception. I'll just post a couple of plate pictures :).

This pictures illustrates our one disappointment. On our last trip to Crystal Palace, they were doing custom pancakes and DH had an amazing one with blueberries. This time they told him they could make him a Mickey pancake and use chocolate chips, but that was it. He was pretty upset.

This picture shows the Pooh's Puffed toast and the breakfast lasagna (I think that's what they call it). I really like Pooh's toast, but I found the breakfast lasagna to be pretty mushy. I also like the chocolate croissants that are found around Disney. I also like the bacon, but that's because I prefer it thin and crispy.

Our favorite meal for special occassions at Disney is California Grill. It was the first signature we ever tried (we did several new ones this trip), and it's still my favorite. We also like to use this meal as an excuse to dress up a little bit.

You're not going to see a lot of variety in the pictures here though, as DH and I had the exact same meal.

First we have the sourdough bread.
DisneyJan2012066.jpg

I really like this.

For appetizers, both of us had the triple cheese flatbread without the tomato.
DisneyJan2012065.jpg

I LOVE this, and it's always one of my favorite parts of the meal here.

For dinner, both of us had the oak fired fillet of beef. This is one of the few places I order steak willingly because they always cook it correctly. I constantly get lectured on how I "ruin" my steak, but I have to have it cooked all the way through. No pink for me! They butterfly it here, and I'm fine with that. Dh prefers his medium. I also ordered my sauce on the side, but I ended up really liking it.
DisneyJan2012067.jpg

While we were there, they were serving it with some kind of purple mashed potatoes. I admit, that bothered us a little bit, but once I convinced myself to try them, I found that they tasted pretty much like normal potatoes.

At the end of our meal was my sort of surprise. I knew DH was planning on getting me a birthday cake because I had to help him with it (he's not very Disney savvy), but he made sure I didn't know any of the details. First though, you have to have some background on this cake. My name is spelled kind of different than most people spell it, and DH had a hard time conveying this to them on the phone. Even though he spelled it out for them 3 times and they spelled it back to him correctly over the phone before he let them go, they still spelled it wrong on the banner with the cake. He was less than thrilled, but I managed to convince him that it wasn't a big deal.
DisneyJan2012070.jpg

The cake was yummy and moist. Dh loves the fondant and kept picking off the fondant balls........I think he ate more of them than he did actual cake. The cake was way too much for 4 people, and they boxed up the leftovers so we could take it back to our room with us.

We also got our regular desserts to take along for later. I ended up eating mine for breakfast over the next few days. I got the kid's rice krispie sushi.

Dh a strawberry dessert that isn't on the current allears menu. I think it was a cheesecake. He didn't end up eating much of his, but he did at least try it so I could review it, and he said it was pretty good.

This was a wonderful meal with great friends, and it made for an awesome birthday!

YUM!!!

I wouldn't ever tell anyone that they are ordering their beef wrong, but I did convince hubby, who always got it well-done, to try medium a few times and he realized that he prefers it that way. He always thought that it had to be cooked all the way through or he could get sick. That is true for chicken, but not for beef.

The strawberry dessert looks like a turtle.

I figured I should read this since you were talking about me. Lol. Its making me hungry...also I'm wondering if I could eat the oooey gooey toffee cake now that I got braces? Was that nuts on it or candy bar? Luv you!

I have tried to eat my steak less cooked, but I just don't like it. My husband says I might as well eat shoe leather :rotfl:.

I was hoping you'd show up. You need to update your tickers lady!!!!

It was like Health bar I think....definitely not nuts. I think you would still be fine eating it.

Feel free to insert your thoughts where ever. Luv you too :lovestruc!

LOL

I think that for my husband, it was used to eating it that way because that's how his mother always cooked it. I've opened up his eyes and his taste buds to all kinds of new things.

Great trip report so far!! I'm really enjoying reading about the places that you ate at!

We love CP for breakfast. It's always on our must do list. We've usually done it for breakfast, but are eating there for dinner this trip! Can't wait to read more!!

I love the pictures description of the purple potatoes. My daughter wants the filet but was not sure about them. I think it'll be a go for her. Your app and entre is exactly what she is thinking of.

We've always enjoyed Crystal Palace. We might have to give in and try a different meal there sometime, but we like breakfast. Plus, vacation is really the only time that I eat actual breakfast.

The purple definitely throws you a little at first, but they taste pretty normal. I am pretty sure that there was someone at the table next to us that had regular mashed potatoes though, so they could probably do it if she asked. I LOVE the flatbread. I look forward to it every trip :).
