Birthday!

We are headed to DLR for my daughter's 5th b-day next spring. I know all the special stuff you can do for a birthday at WDW but what about DLR?
I know about the birthday button and servers bringing out dessert, but what else is there?
We will need to have some kind of party while we are there. We are traveling with several other families and there will be lots of kiddos. Any ideas?
Side note: she is into Wall-e, Star Wars, and Haunted Mansion.

Next spring? Well, this year they have rolled out new things htat you can read about on disneyland.com under their "what will you celebrate" promotion, but it's hard to tell what will last into '10. They have little pirate or princess treasure chest things with a tiny little prefab cake in there that you can buy at table service places, they have centerpieces you can buy with canvas bags with things like crayons etc in them...those are new for this year and the question would be if they will stick around.

You could do the birthday party celebration and the Plaza Inn. It's $15.99 per person and each person gets a small cake to decorate. Mickey and Minnie come by too.

We did it for DD when she was 4 (in 2005) and she loved it! Here is a picture of the cake:

No age limit on that, you just have to pay the price!


I didn't think of that, b/c with DS's corn syrup and probable food dye issues he wouldn't be able to eat that anyway, sorry I missed telling you about it!

That looks like a lot of fun! I am not familar with DLR. Is that a table service rest. in the park?

BTW, we normally don't do HFCS or dyes either but for birthdays all bets are off. However, we avoid it for general health reasons and not because of a serious allergy. I am a registered dietitian (don't tell my clients what I eat at WDW or DLR! ) so I can feel you pain to maintain a normal diet at the parks! You really must be a champ!

It is a counter service restaurant on Main Street. If you are walking towards the castle, it is at the very end on the right.

It's at the Plaza Inn, outside. It's the only place that Mickey appears at a restaurant, so it's pretty special. I saw it happening and it looked like a lot of fun...but I already have to bring in sunspire "m&ms" and things like Nutella so that DS can decorate the cookies sold at the parks at holidaytimes, and I just can't see doing that for cake decorating, when I'm already paying 15 pp.

We really have no choice, alas. DS had a reaction after eating some unknown crackers the other day, and we all suffered until around midnight that night...it was a mild one, no violence thank goodness, but lots of anger...

It means extra work, bringing in PB&J instead of Uncrustables (hfcs and corn syrup), Nutella and healthier candy instead of sprinkles and colorful "buttercream" frosting, etc etc, and we do find the goodies that we can! So we're not perfect, we just can't take advantage of fun things like that.


I'm glad for you and your family that there are no big reactions! Very lucky.

For a child with allergies you can pack a cheap disposable tupperware type of container with some allergen free icing and toppings. DLR is trying to be allergen friendly so check with them to see what they can offer you. I love the cupcakes at Wholefoods Market that are gluten free and found in the frozen gluten free area.

Anybody know if you can get a character to come to our hotel (DLH) to wake the birthday girl up on her big day? She would love to see R2D2 or C3PO. Any chance of interaction with them? She really wants a Star Wars b-day party next year (when we will be in DL). Does letting her ride Star Tours over and over again count as a party?
