Birthday trip, sort of - do we say it is?

Basically, my DD turns 10 in July, and our trip to DW is our big celebration of that. However, because of where we are travelling from (NZ), we won't be going till the start of October (school holidays that work for long distance travel for us). I know that people having birthdays can get a birthday pin etc - and while it is a birthday trip, do we promote it as such, even though the trip is actually 13 weeks AFTER her birthday?

You can get and wear a birthday pin, or any other special occasion pin, whenever you want. It's your celebration! No one asks when the "actual" date is.

Your daughter could wear the birthday pin and you could do anniversary pin, 1st trip pins, etc. if she is too self conscious to be the only one wearing it. CMs will wish her a happy birthday as well as other guests. She will get showered with attention!

Yeah the CMs ask if you are celebrating a special occasion, not if it's the day of the event.. And they love to have a reason to add a little pixie dust in my experience. Hope it's a great trip. :)

I'm also curious about this. We have a reservation for Aug 14-21st (CBR and WL split) and my son's bday is aug 23rd. When do we celebrate? We have reaervations for CRT (15th) and the Backyard BBQ (20th). Do we celebrate at one, both, neither? I don't want to abuse the birthday benefit but I want my son to have a magical time!

Other than wearing the pin and being on the receiving end of many birthday wishes, there aren't really any benefits for you to abuse. Your son may or may not recive a bonus birthday cupcake or card at your meal. I say wear that birthday pin the whole trip! Why limit him to one day? It's a celebration as much as you want it to be!

Thanks for the reply! He's my first child and his first time at Disney (besides when he was in his mom's tummy almost 6 uears earlier); I just didn't want to abuse it.

Agree! If you're there celebrating a birthday you're not abusing anything no matter if it's on the actual day or not. I think most people wear their pins the length of their vacation, too. Not everyone is able to travel on the exact date of the event. I think the only way someone is "abusing" it would be if they lived locally or traveled to WDW frequently and wore a pin every time they're there to try for free stuff.

Sure even though we went the month of my daughters birthday it was a couple weeks before ordered a cake from whispering canyon it was very nice.

We're doing a split stay at CBR, then finishing at WL. I was thinking of ordering a cake, or maybe do something during our reservations at the Backyard BBQ? Any suggestions?

It's has been ten years ago since I did it but it was the prettiest chocolate cake I have seen and very good. I think I called customer service and they directed me on who to contact it was very easy to do. They brought it to our table after dinner.

Are you doing the dining plan? If so I wouldn't bother with the cake! Unless you love cake. Usually at one meal they will make a big deal about the birthday person!

We have the dinning plan while at CBR for 4 nights with ADRs at BOG (lunch), CRT (dinner), Tusker, Reef. It will be out of pocket while at WL and we'll probably do mostly quick service the rest of the trip. I'm sure we won't go hungry at the BBQ! Thanks for the advice!
