Birthday Pool Party - what if it rains?

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do for DD's 9th birthday part in case we get rained out? We're trying to keep this low budget since another of our kids has a birthday party in October, DH is early December and than Christmas. Oh yeah, they all need some new outfits for school too.

Anyhoo, we're planning on a pool party with a bouncy house (friend is letting me borrow his!). I was even going to attempt some sort of candy bar. Any other ideas? She wants some friends who are boys there. If anyone has some great craft ideas/activities, please let me know.

I'm not a big at-home party person. I'm not that creative, the house needs an indoor painting and with my three year old - well, that won't happen for a while. Help and and pray for sun!

Any pool parties that we have been invited to have had a rain date.

Yeah it rained for 1 of DD's pool parties when she was about that age we sat up game tables the kids really enjoyed an afternoon of Sorry, Aggravation an a few other table games actually I think the games went over bigger than the pool would have most of the girls had pools at home so it was no great deal to them to get to swim a couple of the girls that didn't have pool at home was not comfortable in the water anyway.

For my DD10's birthday, she wanted a pool party so we backed her party date back by a month so we could have it in August. It didn't rain all month - until her party day! (And it was cool out also.)

Well, having a rain date, rescheduling was not an option for her. She wanted to see her friends! They all came over anyway and had a blast.

We also had a bouncy - it had a top so they were able to do that when it wasn't raining hard. Inside, they played games - twister was a big hit.

When we also created a balloon game where we put a couple small prizes in the balloons (ring pops, quarters, etc.) and part of the game was the girls would pick a balloon, one by one and sit on it to see their prize. This ended up being so much fun as they were hesitant to sit on the balloons, sometimes they wouldn't pop, etc.

We also had a chocolate fountain. That ended up being a huge hit and I got some GREAT pics of the girls.

I also stopped at a craft store to buy some crafts for the girls to do if there was a lull in the excitement but we never had to use them.

In the end, it was all about friends being with friends and they all had a blast. Sure, I wish the weather was better but I wouldn't trade the outcome of the party either.


P.S. A few of the girls did jump in the pool the last 1/2 hour of the party...just to say they went in. I thought it was way to cold but they did not. So maybe you'll have a lull in the rain and they'll want to go in anyway.

My dd had a pool party last week for her 11 bday. Of course it stormed and rained all afternoon. They ate and opened presents during the storm and then jumped back in the pool while it was still raining. We were going to play the Wii and some other games if they had not been able to get back in. A rain date sounds nice, but if you already have the food,cake, etc., it is kind of hard to postpone it at the last minute. Good luck! The kids won't care, they will just enjoy being with their friends.

Oooh! We have a chocolate fountain somewhere in the basement that never got open! Did you use fruit, marshmallows?

We used pretzels, nilla wafers, strawberries, marshmallows, sliced bananas - I think we had a couple more items but I can't remember now. Everything goe w/chocolate though!

WE did a raindate for my sons outdoor party. DD has a winter birthday so outside isn't usually an option.

We had a pool party for DD8 in June. We were expecting around 12 kids. I just told the parents if it rained, then we would meet at a local pizza place instead. I figured they could eat pizza, open gifts & have cake. Fortunately, the weather was perfect & we had a wonderful party.
I like the idea of setting up board games. Just use part of your house & make it clear what parts are off limits. I'm sure it will be great!

We've had several poo parties over the years, and I've never scheduled a rain date. Many times, there was no other date available, and other times, like a pp said we had the food, and my ds was too excited to postpone. We've always been really lucky!

That being said, I have ds's 7th birthday pool party planned for next friday and I'm bracing myself for rain.......b/c I think I've been lucky too many times! So I spent yesterday cleaning out my playroom in the basement and organizing toys and games just in case. Unless it is thundering out, my guess is that most kids will still swim in the rain or drizzle or play on the playground (we have an AWESOME playset that my dad built for my kiddies which always gets a lot of attention!). I do have a large canopy tent to put up for the moms to sit under if it is raining.
