Birthday Party

I'm just curious about what you think about the timing of this birthday party. My brother is having his DS's first birthday party (DN is going to be 4 this year... Leap Day Baby) on 2/29 from 5:00 - 8:00 (Sunday night.)

They live about 1.5 hours from us, so we'll have to travel to get there and back.

I'm not overly concerned about going, although I think the timing is weird as many of the guests will be traveling, from both sides of the family. My DH is beside himself at the thought of this party being scheduled at that time.

So, I thought I'd ask, what do you think about the time?

My brother said it was the only time he could get the balloon artist that weekend.

Brittany got invited to a party (kiddie one) abt the same time. I thought it was a bit "wierd" when I got the invite, but RSVP'd "yes".

When the actual party came, I really liked the time. I still "had" my whole w/end. Took her to the party (which was a swimming one, so I had to get in the pool w/ her, yikes!). Came home, had dinner & settled down for the night.

We didn't have to travel far, though, just 10 minutes or so.

Since most kiddie party "items" book 6 months in advance around here, I'd believe that it was the only time BIL could get the guy.... You try to plan these things far so ahead, but...... well, you know!

I would not care for that, especially if I had kids that have school the next day. I try to avoid Sunday birthday parties whenever possible. The other thing is what is his son's normal bed time. I know my daughters would have been very cranky by 8 when they were 1. I am sure all will go well.

Kimberle...if I was going to a party from 5-8 I would expect there to be dinner. There is no way I would want to fix dinner after arriving home that late.

My nephew is actually going to be 4, but this is his first birthday since he was born on Feb. 29th. He doesn't attend school, but his sister does (1st grade) so my SIL can let him sleep in, at least.

I KNOW that my brother doesn't think like *normal* people, but I mean that not in a bad way. :smooth: He is a great guy, but just has his own ideas about things.

I know that we'll have to leave before the end of the party so we can get our kids home and to bed for the next day's school.

our sons wanted to have a skating party, inviting everyone they know:) they already understand the "participants to gift ratio":)..they are turning 6, and of course the only time the arena is available is Saturday night from 5-7pm...

So we booked it, ice surface from 5-6, and sandwiches(kid kinds, and adult kinds! - not all just PB&J!!:) ), cake and hot chocolate from 6-7...

So far, the response has been love it or hate it....so the ones who are loving it are coming, and the ones who don't...well, they can *tongue very much in cheek* dropoff a lovely birthday gift...!!!;) ;)

Just want everyone to have some "good ole-fashioned family fun" :sunny:

If it were a Saturday night or if it were closer, I would have no problem with it. But, being a Sunday and if it were that far away, I would probably go but maybe take off a little early.

I always try to arrange for Sat morning parties. That way everyone has the rest of the weekend.

Did they schedule it because most people are off on Monday?

No, that Monday is March 1st, so a work day (and school day) for most, if not all, of us.

Can you bring their pajamas and change them before you leave, then they can fall asleep in the car on the way home and you can put them right in their beds? I agree, it is an odd time and it sounds exactly like something my brother and sister-in-law would do.

See, that's exactly what I was thinking... it wouldn't be the first time they rode home from somewhere in their *night-night* clothes.

Duh....I was thinking this weekend....sorry.

I always bring my kids pjs with us. Sometimes when we are out that late I wish I was able to bring mine.

Unfortunately, people aren't proper planners like the rest of us. You won't be able to change anything. Just put the kiddies in their pj's, make sure they go to the bathroom and hopefully after they fall asleep in the car, you can just bring them right to bed.

BTW...my husband wouldn't like the time planned either!
