My neice is turning one year old at the end of this month and we are throwing a big family get together. Basically, we try to find any reason for a get together. However, I would like to make it enjoyable for the kids. We will have kids ranging from 9 years to less than one.

Our theme is Butterflies and Bugs!

Do you have any ideas for decorations, party favors and activities/games?

I would appreciate any ideas that may have worked for you inthe past.

Thanks!

We used to play a game we called Jake-go-round because my son Jake invented it. You get a container filled with candy and little toys and sit the kids in a circle and do the old play music, pass the container around and whomever is holding the container when the music stops is out. BUT they get to choose something from the container. A couple of times a really young kid has taken their "prize" to their mom saying "I won!" And oddly enough, at the end of the game I would usually whisper to the big winner that they can keep everything or share it in some way (E.g. let everyone choose one more thing). Only once did a child opt to not share.

What a great idea!!! We want to have an "everybody's wins" atmosphere, so I'm definitely incorporating this game into the party.

Thanks so much!!!

I'm not sure what your budget is, but there's always this game. It's basically a little elephant that blows butterflies out of its trunk, and each player gets a net to try to catch as many butterflies as they can. It looks like fun, and it fits your theme!

ChrizJen, I have this game!!! I had seen it years ago on Regis and Kathy Lee (yes Kathy Lee :rotfl:) and bought it for my DD when she was about 4 or 5, so I knew I had to have it again for this party.

Thanks for the idea!

Basically, the budget has been blown out of the water.

So far we have commissioned a face painter and have rented a toddler style space walk. We plan to have stations set up all over the yard where the kids can go and color, make butterfly/caterpillar crafts, decorate a cookie, play with bubbles, play the elefun game and other games, take pictures, listen to a storyteller and we are planning a short obstacle course.

For each activity they participate in they will receive butterfly bucks which they can use to "buy" prizes at the end of the day.

We want the children to fall asleep on the way back home :goodvibes

Sounds like a wonderful party! I don't know any kid of any age who wouldn't have an absolute BLAST!!! :goodvibes
