When you host a birthday party at your house, what type of food do you serve?
What other types of foods have you seen at other parties that you thought were a good idea?

Well, I just had my DD9 b-day party with a few of her friends.....I had it from 1 to 3 on a Sat. All I had was chips, pretzels, popcorn, etc.....juice and soda....and then ice cream cake. Since it was after lunchtime, I figured that was enough! Good luck! :sunny:

Many finger foods: pizza rolls, chicken nuggets (chik-fil-a has the best platters), veggie tray, fruit tray, mini corndogs, Ritz Crackers with cheese and ham/turkey/etc., chips and dip, quesadillas, nachos, cheese sticks, small peanut butter sandwiches, jello jigglers... all are easy and kids love them.

How old are the kids coming to the party? Is the party for kids only, or for families? How big is the party? Food could vary depending upon what type of party it is.

Both of our kids have summer birthdays, and we have a birthday party for them at the pool. They are happy with pizzas, chips, and cake. They'll be 10 and 8 this year. (Wow. I can't believe I just typed that. 10 and 8. *Where* did the time go?!)

Ham BBQ, pizza, sandwich trays (Subway), Italian Beef, these are some of our favorites

The party will be for kids and adults.
Usually we don't do finger foods or pizzas...
We grill hamburgers, and hot dogs along with chicken, steaks, and shortribs. Then have tossed salad, rice, mac. salad, a noodle dish and a few others. I wanted to get an idea of what foods were served at other parties in the U.S.

This is what we normally do for our family birthday parties. DD's last party we did a taco bar. She wanted it to be like the Bueno Nacho to go with her Kim Possible party.

Along with the things mentioned above, I also did tacos, but it was a no go. I think only one person ate it and we did it to go along with our Dora theme.

my ds (8) and dd (17) have summer birthdays so we always have a cookout. Hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks, chicken, corn on the cob, pasta salads, fruit salads, etc. We love the grilled foods and it's a nice change from all the other stuff we get at the other parties.
DD (5) has a winter birthday, 2 days after christmas, so we have a "warm you up" kind of meal. Spaghetti w/sauce or lasagna, salad, garlic bread. Funny thing is that our youngest would pick this as her favorite meal while the older two prefer the hamburgers. I guess you my suggestions is to cater to the birthday child, I mean, it's their day!

We usually have it catered, ziti, chicken parm that kind of stuff.

Ours was a huge hit. Certain family members are asking if I am going to do it again. But I think in May I will go with the cookout.

For family birthday parties/get togethers, we usually do hot dogs for the kids, burgers for the adults, salads including a fruit salad, chips/dip and drinks. Often times we go with a mexican theme and do carne and chicken asada, tortillas, spanish rice and beans, and all the fixins. For appetizers, I'll do sweet/sour meatballs (always a huge hit), chile/cream cheese dip, seven layer dip, taquitos and guacamole, or cheesy bread.

Taquitos, quesadillas, potato skins, lasagna, garlic bread that sort of thing. Though I very rarely have parites at my home. It's been awhile anyway.

How about a make your own pizza type thing. Have the dough ready and each person gets to pick the toppings for their pizza. Hotdogs are always a cool topping.
Other ideas include a sundae bar and decorate your own cookies/cupcakes.

We usually have most of our food already prepared and in warmers when our guests arrive-maybe not all the grilled food since my DH likes to take keep those things really hot. So I do have our menu.
Last year, I had the kids decorate sugar cookies and this year, I had gotten the Disney princess waffle maker, so we will make those and everyone will be able to put on their own toppings.
