Birthday Meal DS14

Hello all!
We will be visiting Disneyland for the first time this summer. It happens to be that we will be in Disneyland or California Adventure for DSs birthday, turning 14. He is a Disney nut and wanted to be at Disney on his Birthday I'd like to plan a dinner somewhere fun to celebrate his birthday. Any ideas? I would do a character meal, but we would prefer a dinner, rather than breakfast, as we like to get in the parks and get a lot done in the mornings.

I would probably recommend the Blue Bayou (inside Pirates of the Carribean). The food gets a lot of mixed reviews and it is expensive (it is also not a character meal), but the atmosphere is pretty cool and I would think a 14 year old boy would find it pretty cool.

If he really wants the character meal I'd go with Goofy's Kitchen over at the Disneyland hotel, and if you want Downtown Disney I would think a boy that age might like House of Blues or the Jazz Kitchen.

My oldest son is only 11, so I know that's a long way off age 14 in attitude and taste. However, I could see my son still really liking Jazz Kitchen when he's 14 since he enjoys it so much now. My younger son, age 9, is a total sports junkie and is always asking to go to ESPNZone. I don't see that changing by age 14 either.

If you really want to do a character meal, Goofy's Kitchen does dinner. If your son is a big eater and you don't need characters, you might consider Storyteller's Cafe dinner buffet option (my boys love this at Thanksgiving) or the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue since it's all you care to eat.

I just asked my 14yo ds and he said "all you can eat ribs?.....oh ya baby!!" So I guess that's a vote for Big Thunder Ranch BBQ.

Thanks for posting this question. I'm also looking for a Bday dinner for my son while we are at DL. I'm not familiar with DL so the BTR BBQ is a counter service?

Actually NOT a counter service. It is set up with picnic tables and some shade coverings - so it's open air dining - and is all you can eat and you have a server. Lunch includes ribs, chicken, cole slaw, corn bread and beans. Dinner includes all that's at lunch plus corn cob wheels and smoked sausage. The prices are different - but I can't remember them exactly. I'm thinking dinner was about $20 and lunch was about $14 or 15 per adult and a little less for the 9 and under group.

My then DS 13 liked the bbq and we enjoyed the all you can eat. They filled up our buckets right before we left, so we had a bunch of leftovers. We had a backpack/cooler so we just stored them, otherwise it wouldn't have been worth it to carry around leftovers.

They have a little entertainment - no characters. We liked it and would do it again.

Blue Bayou was my thought, too. Especially with the renewed excitement for POTC. And hey, I do character meals for my bday still But this summer, I've already told the hub I want mine at the new restaurant in the DL hotel.

We just got home and my 13 year old says Storytellers was his favorite dinner. We also enjoyed Goofy's but he found his crab cakes at Blue Bayou and his Tri-tip at Ariel's to be "too spicy." He tends to think seasonings are spicy when nobody else does, though, so consider that factor. I thought the Cioppino at Ariel's was the best thing I ate on property the whole week.

I would say yes. My rule of thumb is if the place says it's recommended then I just go ahead and make it. If I need to change later I can. It helps to plan the day too. I only make one ressie per day, however.
