Hey everyone! I'm Josh, new to the board and I am about to head down to WDW for a nice long weekend. It's my mom's birthday and dad and I are taking her to Disney!!!! :-) Shes so excited!

We are staying at POR..I've never stayed there before so if anyone has any thoughts on POR please feel free to leave them in this thread as well (I am as we speak reading the FAQ thread for POR).

So here is my question...I want my mom to have an absolutly magical birthday! She has had a rough year with work and other things so she needs a nice get away, and i think it would do her good to be spoiled while at WDW. I am really hoping that some cast members might be able to create some magic for her throughout the weekend and dad and I will try to do the same. Any advice for creating a great weekend? any CM on here interested in helping me out?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jungle Josh

Hey Josh! Welcome!

As far as making your moms birthday magical, you really need to make the plans yourself, rather than counting on a CM to do it for you. Sometimes they will do something, a small cake, a couple of balloons and a card, but that is about a 50/50 shot at best. In order to avoid disappointment, you should make some plans in advance.

You could get in touch with the www.disneyflorist.com, or Shirley at www.theperfectgift.cc, or Gifts of a Lifetime or Pixiegifts. Anyone of them can help you arrange some wonderful suprises.

You might want to arrange for flowers to be delivered to teh room, and make a PS for dinner, calling the restaurant a few days in advance and arraging for a cake to be delivered for dessert.

Have you booked afternoon tea? What a wonderful event that I'm sure she would enjoy.

You could also book a fireworks cruise, or at POR they have horse drawn carriage rides in the evening that are actually quite reasonable by WDW standards :)

I'm sure others will also have ideas for you, but again, you really need to make some plans yourself rather than relying on WDW. So many celebrate special occasions that regretfully they are unable to do soemthing special for everyone.

Oh--on her birthday stop by guest services in any park and pick up a free "Birthday" button for her to wear :)

Jungle Skipper, welcome to the Dis! I love the Port Orleans Resort. I hope you have a wonderful stay there.

Ducklite gave excellent advice (she always does). She's absolutely correct regarding the fact that you cannot count on others to create some birthday magic for your mom, you need to handle that yourself. From the official WDW website:

Q. Is there anything special I can plan for a birthday or special occasion?

A. A variety of activities is available at the Walt Disney World Resort to help make birthdays more special and memorable. For instance, your family may wish to dine with the Disney Characters at one of many character breakfasts, lunches, or dinners. Call (407) WDW-DINE (939-3463)† to find out more about how to create a memorable celebration for your birthday or special occasion.

Give ‘em a call (when your mom is not around, of course) and see what they suggest.

If you think your mom might enjoy a few hours (or a day) of pampering, check out the following (also stated on the official WDW website):

Q. I'd like to pamper myself at a luxurious spa and health club. Can I find a world-class spa at the Walt Disney World Resort?

A. Visit SPAS (click here) for in-depth information on the many ways you can pamper yourself with spa treatments.

If your mom is the active type, how 'bout setting up a golf lesson at one of the wonderful Disney golf courses (click here)? I've taken lessons a few times while at WDW and they were always a lot of fun (and I learned an awful lot). From the official WDW website:

One-on-one instruction from staff PGA professionals provides the ultimate learning experience. Private lessons are available by appointment only. Call for more information: (407) 938-GOLF (938-4653).

Is your mom into race cars? How 'bout arranging a little something where she can put the pedal to the metal? Click here for Richard Petty Driving Experience information. Vroom! Vroom!

I know she already caught the biggest fish in the sea (your Dad), but would she like to see what other fish are out there? Click here for fishing information. I am allergic to fish, yet I adore the fishing excursions. My family has taken them many times.

Maybe she’d like to hit the trail. How 'bout a little horseback riding? Click here for info.

I could go on & on about fun things to do while at WDW. You need to sit down with your dad and determine what activity your mom will enjoy the most, then arrange it in advance. By the way, if you really want to knock her socks off, I would like to suggest the "Haunted Mansion Movie Set Dinner" event. I just celebrated my wedding anniversary with an intimate dinner party for 11 people with that event. I wrote about it (and included lots of photos) in my trip report that can be found on the Dis' Trip Reports board -- click here for my trip report. The dinner is described in three parts on page 10. If you want a few ideas for some other unique events, please check out the other pages in that thread. I also hosted an intimate dinner party on the water taxi dock of the Grand Floridian Resort (it was wonderful). I had a magical vacation that I will never be able to top (but that won’t stop me from trying).

Walt Disney World is truly a magical place to celebrate the most ordinary and the most extraordinary. All you need is a little imagination and a lot of heart. Happy birthday to your mom. Now get planning. ;)

Great idea Janet...a facial is always a good birthday gift. ::yes::

Hey thanks for the advice and links....I am so excited about this weekend...less than 48 hours now! Yahooo!! Any other suggestions? anyone?

How about stories...have any of you experienced a birthday at WDW? Anything special happen to you? Do Tell!
