What would be your choice for restaurant in Disney for an adult to celebrate 42nd birthday. 5 YO kids will be going. Really looking for a speciality restaurant.

It would help to know price range, type of food, etc. that you are looking for.

Without knowing all of that I would say anything but Victoria and Alberts would be appropriate. All WDW restaraunts are very kid friendly but since it is a birthday I would reccomend a signature restaraunt.

As an example, I am celebrating my birthday this weekend at California Grill with my daughter and two nieces - they are all under the age of 8.

Price is not a concern. Excellant food is what I am looking for.

I'd say Artist's Point, if you're looking for a signature restaurant, and especially if you're looking for 1 on the dining plan. But only if the kids are pretty good in restaurants. Every restaurant is kid friendly, but Artist's Point possibly a little bit less so.
If you want a place where you don't need to worry about the kids getting a little bit loud, and where they may be better entertained, then California Grill. (It's a loud place, and the kids can go see the castle from the balcony).

Excellent food, price no concern, I'd head over to the Swan/Dolphin. All three of those restaurants are better than Disney's signatures so it depends on the type of cuisine you are looking for. Shulas is a steakhouse, bluezoo is fish/seafood and Il Mulino is Italian.

The other one I'd recommend is Citricos. It's got a more European influence in the dishes.
