Birthday Cake Thing at Plaza Inn

Ok, the Disney Dining person suggested a birthday cake decorating thing at Plaza Inn. Have any of you done it? What exactly is the whole thing? Do they do a bunch of birthdays at once? Is it worth $16 ea? She said it sells out and is a popular thing.

Hi,
I went last June so I can tell you my thoughts. It was alot of fun for the kids. First of all everyone gets to decorate a cupcake. They give you a plain cupcake, with different colored frosting and sprinkles. They tell you at the beginning that this will be a contest for the best one. Of course at the end, everyone's a winner. Pat-e-Cake is the host. He is quite corny funny. Mickey Mouse also came for photo-ops. Even though there is more than just your own group there, it still felt like we had enough attention.
The only word of caution I would give you is the cupcakes weren't very good. Of course if you are bringing mostly kids who cares. For adults, $16.00 is alot for decorating a so so cupcake in my opinion. Actually for kids that is alot of money too. But at least they're not as picky, and having Pat-e-Cake and Mickey there, it's great. Oh, and you get hats, and little souvenior cups that come with lemonade.

All in all you are paying for the atmosphere, not the food!

Thanks for the info on the Plaza Inn birthday cake decorating thing. It doesn't really sound that fun. Im wondering if we should try something else instead. It seems like a lot of money for a cupcake & we got a 2:00 reservation time, so we'll be using the midpart of our day to do it.

Do you have any other suggestions of fun things for birthdays?

When it was $10 I thought that was a good deal. For that you got a snack and a drink and a chance to meet Minnie and Mickey. Given the cost of DL food, that didn't seem too bad. And when we went, we had premium AP's so our cost was really just $8. Now that its $16, that seems too high. Its really a shame they raised the cost that much, it was a nice affordable thing for a birthday, way cheaper than a character meal. That seems like a really big price hike imho.
