I've heard you can go to Guest Relations in the parks and pick up a button for your birthday or first visit to WDW, and if CMs notice they will often make comments to you or try to make your day extra special.

What are some other celebrations they provide buttons for? Anniversaries? Veterans?

Peace. :hippie:

It is normally nothing large, or out of the ordinary. You will definitely have cast members saying Happy Birthday, Anniversary, etc when boarding rides, or walking past shops. At sit down dinners, you MIGHT get a free cupcake, or dessert. We have also received birthday and anniversary cards signed from all the characters at character dining experiences. Other times we got nothing but a smile.
I think with the popularity of boards such as the DIS, many people are more aware of getting a First Visit button, Anniv. button, or Birthday button that they start to expect free perks. (I don't think this was the intent of your question at all.) They are then upset when they don't get free cakes, towel animals in the rooms, or other free perks. Its really just something fun to have if you are celebrating a special occasion in WDW. I hope you have a wonderful vacation, no matter what you are celebrating!!! :)

Thanks for the comments. We are definitely not a "gimme gimme gimme" family. My husband was promotions director for two radio stations and you learn the nature of some people real quick. "Got any free t-shirts??" then they stomp off when you say no. lol

Does Disney give out different buttons? What do they look like? We'll have first visit, birthday, and anniversary celebrations when we go. (My parents' 40th! yay)

I know they have Birthday ones, as well as first visit ones for sure. I am almost positive they have wedding and anniversary ones but someone would probably have to confirm that one. We usually visit around someone's birthday, it makes a nice little souvenior, plus it is always nice when people say happy birthday! The kids really get a kick out of it!

They do have anniversary buttons. My Husband & I got them when we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in '07. We wore them everyday and heard lots of Congrats and even got a couple free desserts. It was fun and a nice keepsake.

I just did a Google image search for "disney birthday buttons" and came up with a lot of images. Same for anniversary buttons.

I have a button maker -- I think I'll make a button with my mom and dad's wedding picture, give each of them one and pick up Anniversary buttons for them at the park.

I saw a lot of people with "I'm Celebrating" buttons a couple weeks ago. There were a lot of those buttons, plus the birthdays, just married, anniversary, first visit, etc. Given that the theme is "What Would You Celebrate," they're finding something for everyone to celebrate.

I agree that people should not expect to get something just because they're wearing the button, since so many people have them now.

I just wanted to share that last year friends of ours took their newly adopted children to WDW and got "Congratulations" buttons because they were going to celebrate their adoptions being final.

Everywhere they went CMs would ask what their buttons were for. The kids would yell, "We got adopted!" My friend said that they barely stood in line the whole time!! As soon as CMs heard what they were celebrating and how excited the kids were, they let them go to the front of the line.

I'm sure this is not typical, but it was very special for them.

There is something about WDW in that, even if you aren't getting to cut line or treats, everywhere you go people like to make you feel great. When we were last there my dds went to BBB (gowns and all) and all day CMs called them princess (like they do all little girls) but they also bowed. The people at the entrance, sweeping up sidewalks, working the rides. They all stopped and bowed as the girls walked past. It was really cute. I'm sure it doesn't always happen like that, but little magical things happen all over and a button only increases your chances for pixie dust.

We have always picked up our buttons at the resort gift shop. Just ask for it and they will give it to you free.

We celebrated my DH's 40th birthday in Disney. He wore a birthday button on his actual b-day. We happened to be in the MK that day. We were getting in the long, slow moving line for the Tomorrowland Speedway, when a CM noticed his button and told us to follow her. She walked us through the back way, and right to the next car waiting. That was the BEST perk!!! The wait for that ride can be brutal!!! (but of course, our boys always want to ride it! LOL)

What a cute idea, I think my 2 and 3 year old would like the one about the "first visit" just to feel special and think it's cool to have one and I'd like to have it as a keepsake for their scrapbook for when we get home!

My DH and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and his birthday last week at Disney World. We got our buttons when we checked into AKL, and he wore his birthday button for a few days. He seemed to get hundreds of Happy Birthday wishes from CMs and from other guests. He also got a cup cake and signed Birthday card at dinner one night even though we got dessert with our dining plan. He got a cup cake the second night, and I think they sang Happy Birthday to him. When we were waiting in line at Nemo the Musical, a CM noticed his button and made an announcement on the speaker for everyone to wish him a happy birthday. We wore our anniversary buttons 2 days at the end of the week, and at Narcoossee's we each were were given a glass of champagne with a huge strawberry on the side and Happily Ever After buttons. At Boma the next night the waiter brought a little tray of extra pastries decorated with candy confetti and swirls of chocotae and raspberry sauce. We loved all of the special attention and made sure we wished everyone Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary when we saw their buttons. We also congratulated many people, especially children, when we saw their First Visit buttons. It's great when DW makes you feel special, but it's just as great when other guests say something to make you feel special, too.
