Birthday Button Etiquette

I have one more question for y'all! For those frequent visitors, what is the birthday button etiquette? My husband and I are taking a trip for our birthdays. We have held off on all celebrating until we get to the parks. His birthday is April 4 and mine is April 21, but we won't be in the parks until the 25-29. At that point is it still appropriate to wear birthday buttons? Or should we do the "I'm Celebrating" ones. I know that's kind of a silly question, but I don't want to take advantage of anything I shouldn't! Thank you so much!

Honestly if he wants a button, I say go for it. My dad and I are 2 weeks apart. We went to Disneyland to celebrate my 29th birthday. You better believe he wore a birthday button.

Agree. Wear the birthday button!

We took my daughter to WDW and DL for her 16th birthday during Dec 2014. She's a Feb baby but Feb is the start of the school year in Austaralia, so we couldn't fly over for her actual birthdate. We had cake, special dinners and just lived it up like you should on your 16th ... Just a couple of months early.

i wear my birthday button if it's within a month of my birthday. my husband's bday is 4/26, but we won't be there until early may and i have every intention of getting him a birthday button.we wore our just married buttons for our entire 1st year of marriage, haha. my mom wears her birthday button almost every time she's there, even if her bday is months away, haha.

Yeah, I'd go for it! My birthday is also April 21st (happy early birthday to you ;)) and before we head for Disneyland, I'm going to wear my birthday button a few days before at WDW to celebrate. I'll probably only wear my birthday button in Disneyland on my actual birthday, but if I was coming in later I would definitely wear it. :)

We are celebrating my DD's 13th birthday while we are there...we are heading there in June and her birthday isn't until July. We wanted to go during her birthday month, but DH couldn't get the time off at work, so June it is. I wouldn't worry too much about it...a WDW CM once told me that it doesn't matter when exactly you are celebrating you or anyone's birthdays, as long as you are celebrating it in WDW...I'm assuming that DLR is the same way :goodvibes.

We were supposed to go for my birthday, but had to cancel last minute. We rescheduled for the next month during my partner's birthday and we both wore buttons since it was still supposed to be my birthday celebration. I also don't like to take advantage of anything that isn't intended to benefit me, but I really don't think this is taking advantage. First of all, lots of people aren't able to celebrate their birthday day-of and and that doesn't mean they shouldn't celebrate at all. Second, there's no specific perk to "take advantage" of. It's not as though people celebrating their birthday automatically get front-of-the-line privileges or anything else concrete like that. There's a possibility that a CM will see your button and do something nice for you, but then again they might do something nice for you without a birthday button too and it's just a matter of luck.

My opinion isn't a popular one. I think people should only wear a birthday button within a week or two of their birthday. In your case, I would say it's OK since you're both pretty close.

Our family has never worn our buttons on anything but our birthday only. That day, not the whole week. Folks routinely justify wearing a button as many as 6 months from their birthday. If that floats their boat, fine. Disney certainly wants you to "celebrate" your birthday every.single.day of your vacation with absolutely no relation to the actual date. Why? Because people who are "celebrating" open up their purse strings and spend more.

Have a great time!

ETA: Children are excluded from my opinion. They should feel free to celebrate their birthday when ever and however they want. A whole week for a 1-year old? Bring it on!

Get it! My wife and I have summer birthdays but hate going in the summer, so we often take birthday trips months later, and we still get a button, because to us it's our birthday trip!

Go for it!! Not everyone is able to go right on their birthday. It's just not feasible for everyone. Why shouldn't they get to wear a pin just because they can't be there on their exact birthday? You're not going that far away from your birthdays and it is a trip to celebrate them!! Rock those birthday pins!! Have a great trip!!
:bday:

I'm getting there ON my birthday in September! Totally getting a button and wearing it the whole 5 days. :)

I guess I'm in the super minority here; Last year I was in the parks about two weeks before my b-day and it didn't even occur to me to get a pin.
Now if I was in the park during my birthday I would get one. Otherwise I would not.

I'm glad you asked! dd turns 21 on our trip home this September, and she definitely wants to wear a button :)

Here is my opinion, take it for what it is.

If you are going to Disneyland to celebrate your birthday(s), get the buttons and wear them with pride.

If you just happen to be going to Disneyland around the time of your birthday, skip them.

If you are celebrating your birthday, get the button. If you aren't, then don't get it just to get it.

You almost certainly won't get anything from wearing it.

You might get lots of birthday wishes from total strangers. If this is going to bother you, don't get the button or take it off. If you're going to feel the need to say anything but "thank you", don't wear it.

DH would wear a button all the time. He loves the birthday wishes and it makes him happy. (He was the middle child. Could be a reason.)He's also one of the strangers who will notice other people's buttons.

I dislike wearing it. When I turned 1 I cried all through the HB song and not much has changed since then. So I don't wear the button unless it's my actual bday and I'm feeling social. DS is an extrovert like DH but likes my button criteria.

But at heart, if you're celebrating it, go for it. Robin and indianascott don't even think about it. That means they aren't celebrating the bday. Therefore it would be silly to get the button. For them it would be getting it just to get it. If that's you, follow their lead. :)
