birth control question

I have always heard that when you are on antibiotics, your birth control is no good. Here is my question: I was in the hospital with IV antibiotics and started my current pack of bc pills the day before I went home. How long before I can trust my bc? (I was not sent home on oral antibiotics, just had the IV in the hosp)

I have heard an entire month, I certainly hope not. Please anyone that can clarify, that would be great.

It would totally depend on WHAT antibiotic you received and WHAT birth control pill you are on.

Did you not ask at the hospital? Is there no information package with your birth control pills?

I agree with the above, and use a condom for a month - it's not the end of the world.

I would not trust it this month (your current pack) at all. I would call your GYN and double check about next month.

Ugh....I figured that would be some of the replies I got....I totally forgot about the whole week I spent in the hospital a few weeks ago

It wouldn't be the end of the world, just not good timing.

I would be using extra birth control for that whole cycle.
